  1. Garmin 60CSx, Palm PDA of some type.... Cost about $20 bucks or less....cacheMate and of course PM ...This setup is reliable. Stay safe
  2. By using GSAK you can form data bases for each of your caching areas and you can keep them updated with Pocket Querys......If I'm caching in area "C", I only load area "c" in my 60CSx from my area c data base. By having ny data bases with all the gpx files I want, if I desire i can delete unwanted waypoints from my 60csx. Then load my 60csx with up to 999 waypoints for area "a" so on and so on..... GSAK, CacheMate, Pocket Queries are great caching programs and makes caching a fun trip.....
  3. Just a note....I have a GPS60CSx and I have used GSAK to make my 60csx a "modified" PDA with just the info I need....type of container, type of cache (traditional, Multi, Puzzle, etc.....and best of all the "hint". This info is in my 60CSx.....check my profile page near the bottom for more info.....Of course you need to be a PM and have GSAK or a simular program....If you are not a PM, you really should be, caching would be a lot more fun...Stay safe....
  4. Archive the cache, retrieve cache container and place in a new location. This adds another "1st to find" (FTF) and gets the container out of the PO....These kinds of caches are placed in the winter months, because no one in their right mind would place a container in the middle of a Poison Ivy/oak area.....I know, I was an idiot for doing just that when I started placing caches....but we all learn over time. Stay safe and out of the PO.
  5. Ammo cans, painted or otherwise are normally very easy to find in the woods, just look under a POR or a POL, or just a pile of something. One of the best hide for a painted ammo can is to half bury in a low spot and cover just a bit , but always leave some of the can showing. this is a super method of hiding a large ammo can, tupper ware, or lock-in-locks..... and a sure way to get PO in the warm months....In this area I wait for the winter months to search in the woods. Happy caching and stay safe.....
  6. Not bad......I had cache coordinates in the middle of the Pacfic ocean....I live in Tennessee. I had to rate it a "5" because a boat was required....Heck, I just wanted to see someone swim to the cache location...are we having fun...Stay safe...... Coordinates should be as accurate as possible on intent and following the Groundspeak guidlines. Other wise the cache owner would not a concerned geocacher.
  7. Get a job and join the well-to-do geocachers.......
  8. Wow.....I think the cache owner would appreciate it if you just replaced the wet, damp log with a new log, or just DNF and go on to the next cache....be sure to bring a mask and tweezers for the replacement log.
  9. My pill bottles are water tight, but I don't think any caching container can keep moisture out....Stay safe
  10. Wow, my 60csx works just fine....but you must accept that it is not perfect....Stay safe
  11. With GSAK you will have more fun and you can load (send to GPS) 500 to 1,000 waypoint. good luck and stay safe.............
  12. Start with WWW."geocaching .com". The rest of the experience will be easy. Later think about becoming a Premium Member. You will also need a" Hand Held gps receiver"....I would suggest a Garmin and only a garmin. Then, think about "Paperless caching"....With paperless caching you will need a PDA, recomend a "Palm"...But I'm sure you will do a lot of researching. But the caches are out in the urban and other areas waiting to be found and logged. Happy caching and stay safe....
  13. In the very small containers....Micros, Bison Tubes, Nanos, and Picas....picas are about the size of your little finger nail...I just luv the picas, they are also magnetic. Then of course, many different larger sizes. from small plastic containers, ammo boxs, and larger. the small, regular containers have trade items as a rule, but not always. All containers should have a log, everything else is optional....Stay safe and good luck
  14. The 60CSx is a great choice....Next a PDA, GSAK, and your Geocaching adventure. Stay Safe
  15. Not only ammo cans, but all types of cache containers....stay safe
  16. Can of Black paint and Green paint and have fun. wal-mart has them for 96 cents each...Just bought some more today. Stay safe. This paint is much cheaper then the tape...
  17. You might consider becomming a "Premium Member", buying GSAK, Cachemate, and a PDA. With those items, caching will become a whole new adventure and lots of fun. Like most anything else there is a cost envolved for having fun. If you enjoy caching, in time you will have all the items that I memtioned and some not on the list. If you can find the forums, you find geocaches. Stay safe.
  18. If you don't like the cache container or cache location...ignore the listing...filter out the caches you don't like and go caching....Stay safe
  19. No...No....Heck No...Stay safe and place more LPC
  20. Sign and date log is a requirement if you are to get credit for finding my caches, as should be for all Cache Owners....or you could stay home and log caches from your couch....You found the forum, so why not find a cache with a pen...I have 3 pens on a lanyard that is part of my caching equipment. There is no excuse for not have a pen/pencil at the cache site. Stay safe.
  21. Just a note....caches that are placed in dense PO are placed there in the Winter Months. I know this, because that is when I placed some of my caches in the PO. When I relealized my mistake, I removed that caches and placed them in an area that has less po or none. In this area in the summer, if you go into the woods, you will get Poison Ivy, Oak, or sumac, unless you are dressed as you should be for the trip into the woods. My wife makes me undress at the door and get rid of my clothes, which not only has PO, but ticks, chiggers, spiders, and such. Many times now I will ignore caches in heavy poison areas in the summer and hunt for them in the winter months. Here in this area our winters are mild. (That is when we place caches in the woods, becacuse there is no way I would venture into a "mess" of PO in the summertime now that I have been educated.) Welllll, almost never. Stay safe and out of the Poison stuff. WT73
  22. 60CSX, GSAK, PDA, and a Premium Membership = a Happy Camper with all the bells and whistles...If you want to have fun caching, take it one day at a time and read, read, all you can on geocahing...But don't think "Cheap" or it will cost you more over time...Stay safe and welcome to caching.
  23. Carry a few extra small logs in Zip containers to replace full or soaked logs. I carry 2-3 extra logs in my billfold....Stay safe
