  1. I have an hp iPAQ Pocket PC h4155. I have GpxView software on the Pocket PC which allows me to view the cache pages that I download using pocket queries and EasyGPS software. I also use the EasyGPS software to download the same pocket queries to my Garmin etrex Vista CX. All of the coordinates on the GPS look as expected. For example, a cache near me called Jailhouse Rock looks as you would expect on the GPSr as N 32° 04.784 W 081° 16.945. However, on the pocket pc, the coordinates for the same geocache show as N 32.07973 W 81.28242. As you know, I can only save 500 caches in my GPSr. But, I can store almost an unlimited amount of cache pages on my pocket pc. The problem is that if I have a cache in my pocket pc that I want to seek, I can't properly load the coordinates (based upon what I see in the pocket pc) to my GPSr. My question...is there a way to set up the Gpxview so that it downloads the cache pages using the coordinates in the way that I want to see them (the way I'm familiar with that shows on geocaching.com and in my GPSr)? Any help is appreciated. I'm not very technical.
  2. I appologize in advance if this has already been discussed. However, my computer is so old it takes forever to scroll through every post. I scanned through and didn't see it. When I first noticed the new look of geocaching.com, I was VERY EXCITED to see that I could now search for caches by entering a CITY and STATE. I tried this and it worked great. The next day, I tried this again and it wouldn't search by city. When I tried I was redirected to the advanced search and I had to enter the zip code. Now I notice that there is no option to enter City and State. The only option I see is to "Enter your postal code." I would love it if geocaching.com could keep the city and state search option. It makes it much easier than having to search for all the zip codes first. If there is a way to search by city and state that I just have missed, someone please let me know.
  3. I wonder if most of the people attending will be staying in Hotels or at the campground.
  4. I wholeheartedly agree. But this is just a friendly back and forth between me and Isonzo Karst. I agree also. I try to attend CITO events as often as I can. So far, I've made it to CITO events in Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. I should have phrased my question differently. I just wondered which state hosted the most CITO events last year.
  5. RussellM, It is highly possible that we were bidding against each other on the ipaq 5550. Funny....except that if we did, you won. That would be really funny. I think the item went for 150.02, sound familiar? hummm. I don't remember exactly. But, it does seem highly probable. Funny.

  7. I bought an HP IPAQ H4155 POCKET PC from ebay with an extra 2gb sd card. I hope this one will serve me well. I just have to wait for it to arrive. I should have it by Saturday. Now I'll just have to learn how to use it.
  8. Go Here... Wow Thanks. This is going to come in handy. If I ever decide which handheld to purchase, this should get me paperless in no time. I think that ebay will decide for me. I've bid on several older models, but have been outbid on about a dozen or more items. I guess when I get lucky and don't get outbid (I'm not bidding much) then I'll know which ebay has chosen for me a PPC or a Palm. I do have another question for which I haven't come across an answer yet. Do any of the programs once they download into either the Palm or the PPC retain the detail map that is always shown on the geocaching page? Yes, I know that most cachers have purchased an extra bit of software for their GPSr that gives them driving directions to the cache. I have not (not yet, anyway) because I just haven't found the extra money to do so. So my directions are still as the crow flies. Please reply. You all really are helping me. Thanks.
  9. Any thoughts on these? Toshiba PDA pocket pc E740 Del Axim X30 pocket pc HP iPAQ Pocket PC H4350 or Palm m515 Hand Held PDA - Pocket PC ebay seller says it has a wireless ip modem. But, he's never used it. If the modem works, is this wifi? (we've already determinded that I am clueless.) This is actually the only thing that I have found on ebay that I can actually afford. It must be pretty old. oops edit: found one more cheap one. Palm Pilot m105 - PDA Organizer
  10. I've decided to go paperless. But, beyond that decision I don't know what to do next. I know nothing about PDAs or Pocket PCs. I know nothing of the software or hardware needed for paperless caching. I thought GSAK was the only software and that any old PDA would work. But, here I see several more software items listed. I've searched ebay for almost two days nonstop. But, that doesn't really help me. I went there to try and find the least expensive PDA that I could find. I've been told by a few paperless cachers that any old PDA will work. But, is this correct? I don't know. I saw several listings on ebay for a Palm TX. This one sounds good to me. But, it is also very expensive. I like that it has WiFi (which I also no nothing about) But, being able to check email or see if a new cache is in the area would be great while traveling. (I do understand that I'd have to find a wifi spot though.) I don't think I'd ever use the PDA or Pocket PC for anything except caching and maybe the WiFi. So, maybe I should just forget the wifi and get the least expensive thing that I can find. See, I'm back to where I started......L O S T. Can someone just tell me what the basic needs would be....PDA with certain ports or something? cables? software?
  11. Wow. One of my racers went from like 50th place (I really don't recall, it may have been alot farther down the list) to 2nd place. This is thanks to a trip to Spain followed by an immediate trip to Sweden. Cool. Now if someone just picks it up and takes it another 5000 miles.
  12. I think it would be great if you could add a very short note to the side of the items you add to your watch list. For instance, if you are planning a trip to Jacksonville later next month: Jacksonville Cache (remove) (Jacksonville trip) or a listing you are watching because you need to find it for your DeLorme Challenge listing: Turkey Branch Cache (remove) (page 23 of SC DeLorme) or a new cache: Brand New Cache (remove) (must find first) or you are going to find a cache that someone noted new log needed: Soggy Boggy Cache (remove) (bring new log for owner) or you want to take your geopet with you caching: Doggy Walking Cache (remove) (can take Fido) Just some ideas of reasons that it would be helpful to add a short note when adding to your Watch List. This way you could make a quick glance down your watch list and know why the cache listing is there and if you no longer need it quickly delete it. My two cents.
  13. Forgive me if this has been addressed before. But, I looked through the forum and didn't see it discussed. I was going to email this idea to Groundspeak. But, I saw where they suggest posting the suggestion here. I think it would be great if the date that shows beside the events you plan to attend(in the next 30 days) could be the date of the event, instead of the date that you posted your plan to attend. This way you can easily view your plans by date without having to click on the event page for each event. By the way, I really like this feature.
  14. Sharing is nice. What a great thing to do.
