  1. Ok, Figured that one out... just deleted the notification, and re-created it... Now..... tried to do the email to text deal, and I can get it to work if I type it out.. So I created a new email address, and hit the button to verify it.. It comes in as a text, and when I hit the link to validate it, it just sends me back to the email management page, only choices are validate or remove.. Stuck in a loop!
  2. Ok, I found where you set it up, and did so, only thing is, where you check the box to "enable notifications" I check it, but can't get it to "stick".. When I go back it is unchecked again ??
  3. How is it you get notified of new caches in your area? Would love to come up with a FTF someday and don't have time to do searches all the time.. I see others talking about emails or texts when a new one is posted, and I would like to set this up! Thanks in advance!!
  4. Thanks guys, this one is all new to me! I love my Lowrances, but was getting tired of doing so much work to accomplish so little!
  5. Hi Snake... When you mark a cache as found in the Oregon, how is it that information gets onto geocaching.com? Is there a way to upload them all, or is it just for your notes and you have to do it manually later?? BTW, your cache "Koala Food" was a GREAT cache LOL..... JJ Under the geocaching menu, you tap on the menu called "cache description". This brings up a screen with the complete cache description and the logs for that cache. There are also other menus under geocaching that will show you the hint, allow you to log the cache, or take you to another cache.
  6. I have a Globalmap Baja 480c, and in I-finder Expedition. When I get a PQ and run it through GSAK and load it in the machine, I hover the cursor over the Cache Waypoint and it gives me the name, type, difficulty etc, but not the other text or description or hints. Is there a way to have that on the waypoint too?? Thanks... JJ
  7. Anyone using things like GSAK running a MAC and fusion sofware (virtual windows) ? Do most of the common Geocaching programs run ok under Fusion? Thanks. JJ
  8. I was wondering if it is wiser to get a 300 and the mapping software, or just get a 400. I have read where the software does not come with the 400, so if you want to do anything off the computer, you are SOL. I have also heard the the high resolution mapping is only available on the pre-loaded 400, and not via the software? Any ideas? Also is there a limitation on the size of the memory card that you can use? I have a Lowrance and it would only work with a 1 gig card... Thanks in advance JJ
  9. Well, I just got two Lowrance units. A Baja 480C for my Jeep, and an Expedition C handhelo. The Baja is way cool, big screen, locks up solid, very bright display, rugged and a great design. You have to put cards in it. By reading the specs, the only limitatiion to the card size is the number of files on it. I went out and got a 2 gig card, and it will not read it. It says "unrecognized MMC Format". Called tech support and they gave me an RMA to send them the card, and see if they could get a solution. They said they would send me 2 1 gig cards. They said up fron that it should work though. Before I sent it off, the Expedition C came in, so I put the card in it, and it worked fine, ,,,, sooo its not the card. I called back, kind of failing to see the sense of me sending in a card, when they could get one on their own, but this point was lost on the person at Lowrance. I decided to send it anyway to more or less force them to fix the problem, or deal with it at least. The Expedition C is ok, but it does not appear to be too rugged to me. The rubber plug that covers the AC adaptor plug won't stay in place. The face of the unit is glossy finished, as well as the screen. It was in the passenger seat and I guess it flipped over on its face whilst I was bouncing down a hill. Just rubbing on the fabric seat for a minute scratched the screen. Not impressed with its ruggedness at all. But wanted to be able to use the same maps etc. The mapping program is ok, you can only register 5 mmc cards to use with it (their form of copy prot) and you have to have one of the original cd's in the computer to run the program. (more copy prot). The units read the maps as soon as you put the cards in them. I first did a map of about 1/3 of the US. It took 3 hours to process it. They later said you should use smaller areas, and apparently you can have multiple files on the card, and the unit will load all of them. This is not clear in the docs from what I have seen, but it could have been in there so don't quote me on that. The Baja is a keeper. The Exped might become backup. JJ
  10. Thanks for the help, I will do some more reading!!!
  11. Hi, I am trying to figure out the gpx/loc file downloads, and have figured out most of it, except how do you get to instantly download a file in gpx. I can get it to email it to me, but if I modify it and want it instantly I can't get any choice other than the LOC file you get when you click the download waypoint button at the bottom of the page. Any help is appreciated. JJ
  12. Echoing some of the above, your coins are very historic. Especially if you have an explanation with them, you are going above & beyond. If someone is offended by them, don't take one. Leave it for someone who appreciates its place in the past.
  13. I am using the Lowrance reader/writer. Their software doesn't format the card per se, it encrypts the map to the serial number of the card from what they tell me The only reason I formatted mine again was because it gave me that error. I too am using a Sandisk card. Also I just put the same card into an I-finder Expedition C, and it seems to be ok.. Hmm... BTW, I found how to d/l the gpx file, tnx anyway!!
  14. Hello all, I am admittedly new to this sport, and love it so far. I bought a Lowrance Baja 480C for my Jeep. (I-Finder Expedition on the way too). I also got their topo software so I could load maps on the SD card for it. Naturally due to the limitiation of 5 cards registered to the software, I picked the largest I could find, being 2 gigs. I put the card in the unit, and it comes up with an error "unrecognized mmc card format". I have formatted the card in FAT (not 32) as dictated by the manual, and still get the same error. If i put in the 64meg card it came with it seems ok. However 64 megs is not large enough to hold any significant map data. I have called Lowrance and they say it should support a 2 gig card. Their first suggestion was to flash the current software update to both the antenna module and then to the unit. This was done with success, but still get the same error. I have called again and eveyone involved seems to be stumped. I bought three of these 2gig cards (on sale for about 80 bucks at Best Buy) and they suggested trying another card, but I am reluctant to open another card as if it turns out they are not compatible with the unit after all, I don't think I will be able to get BB to take them back. Plus I have written files successfully both to and from the card, so I don' think thats it I was just curious if anyone has used a 2G card with any Lowrance products and achieved success? Also I am trying to learn to download GPX files from the website and run them through GSAK to load them into the unit. When I select a search and check items in the results and download them, they are however in an .LOC file instead. I have tried searching for the answer, and I am sure it is around somewhere, but would sure appreciate it if someone could point me in that direction, or provide a short explanation as to how to download and process these files into my unit. (I do have a premium membership) Thanks for any help in advance, and I will keep this updated as to my success with Lowarnce (they are getting a 2 gig card to play with). Warren
