My unir has been on two hikes since the update to 2.8 - and is working fine. I don't use Geocahing-specific rfeatures. Its ability to see lots of satellites is great.

aint clock rate (transfer speed) goverend by the host - the eTrex, and not the dumb SD card? In which case a higher speed card may also work OK?

I used a serial-to-USB adaptor on my old etrex with my then-new ACER Aspire netbook. Worked fine BUT it seemd to come up with a different COM Port number almost every time which was annoying. Now I have an eTrex20 - much better.

Garmin link appears to be not working reposting the link "http://www8.garmin.com/support/lifetime_updater.html" note - the FORUM software was not displaying all the characters in the link - I don't know why = so I put it inside a pair of quotes its there or just Google it using Garmin lifetime updater

Garmin's lifetime map update ALSO updates your software version - and it does not require the Microsoft NET software :-) (I cannot get the latter to work on 3 PCs) my eTrex20 is now at V2.8 thanks to the above approach http://www.garmin.com/lifetimeupdaterGarminMapUpdater.exe Garmin seems to have a lot of function overlap in the software offerings
