  1. Thanks, you're right that's not a bad deal
  2. SAPD, Thanks for the help. I loaded everything I needed last year and didn't remember the specifics of loading what I need in a set. I'm also wondering if I need to buy the City Navigator at full price since I have City Select or if Garmin will allow an upgrade? I hope that they would considering how many hundreds of $ I've spent on their software already. Let's see: City Select, US Topo, Canada Topo, US Parks Topo, and finally Topo 2008. You do the math! Thanks for the help everyone. Photomaniac
  3. Got my Topo 2008 this week loaded it on my computer today. I then proceeded to load some selected maps on my 60csx and everything seemed fine. I then tried to turn it off and turn City Select back on and it was completely gone on the GPS. Also, the computer ceased to talk to the unit. I had to reload the driver and now am reloading the City Select maps and waiting to see what happens. Are they not compatable? I've loaded City Select, Topo, and Parks 24k, as well as Canada Topo and they were all compatable in the past. Has anyone had that happen to them with this new software? Maybe the card can't hold both maps. I didn't monitor the card usage but I know I have at least a 1 gb card if not 2 gb.
  4. I had a slight problem no one listed here. I connected my 60csx and ran webupdater. It said no new updates. I checked Garmin's site and it listed the old update from July. I picked the option to reinstall the same software (2.70/3.00) and reinstalled. It came up 2.90/3.00! It did change the clock which I'm about to go outside and fix. Everything seems to be fine. Why didn't the Webupdater note the new SW? Anyway, thanks for the info and heads up to update.
  5. I have had my GPS for a while and know my way around it pretty well. However, I can't seem to make the brightness setting stay at 100%. When I turn on my unit the brightness level is @ about 50%. I can raise the level to 100% but when I turn it off and back on it reverts to the 50% level again. I've tried several ways including the method I just stated, and going to the display settings page and setting the bottom setting to 100%. It still reverts! The display does come on as it is supposed to when connected to external pwer but at the reduced level. I have all the latest firmware and software for this GPS. Anyone have this happen?
  6. puddlewalkers, I echo your enthusiasm for the 60csx. Our family just got back from a 9000 mile road and camping trip covering 18 states and 2 canadian provinces. The GPS was indespensible as you used it on the road and trails, especially in large cities for the first time. We never got lost! The exit for gas was especially useful for planning our next fillup. Also, drbugs, I would look at our direction on the interstate and correlate that to direction to gas stations.
  7. I have had the same exact trouble with my 60csx and this sounds like a very good explanation of the trouble except that I was using Energizer alkaline batteries. I thought it was caused by the firmware or software (topo canada). It happened last month while I was in Canada about 6 or 7 times and hasn't happened since.
  8. I just upgraded to 2.7 on my 60CSX with no apparent problems. I hope you get yours worked out. I've heard great things about Garmin's service. Photomaniac
  9. Oz, Thanks very much! I forgot about that option. I went right to it and it is set to autozoom. I changed it and will try it next time I'm out. photomaniac
  10. I have a Garmin 60CSX (like half of everyone else) and City Select 7.0. When I am autorouting I zoom in enough to see street detail and when I get to the next turn the display automatically zooms way out. I have the latest firmware (2.62 Beta) and hoped it would be fixed by now. Is this problem unique to me or do others experience it also? Thanks for the help!
  11. I'd like to ask a City Select related question. I have a Garmin 60CSX (like half of everyone else) and City Select 7.0. When I am autorouting I zoom in enough to see street detail and when I get to the next turn the display automatically zooms way out. I have the latest firmware (2.62 Beta and GPS SW Version 2.40) and hoped it would be fixed by now. Is this problem unique to me or do others experience it also? Thanks for the help!
  12. Thanks for the help. Yes, I've loaded CS. As I mentioned before, I enter a partial street name and select from CS's list. It still comes back with no entries. This seems like a pretty big glitch since the main purpose of a GPS is to find a place in an unfamiliar area. I don't need it to tell me where I am; I already know that!
  13. I am loving my new Garmin 60CSX and CitySelect but am having trouble. When I search for a particular address it tells me not found but if I look for it manually it is there on the map. One of the primary reasons for having a GPS is to search for a new location. This has happend several times. I'll enter a street number, the city, a steet name which pops up and I select then it says nothing found. I know it's in the database because it's on the map. Do I have a setting wrong? photomaniac
  14. I have been reading this website for a couple of weeks and bought my first GPS on Saturday based on the research I did here. I went with GPSDiscount because of price and trust level. I got the Garmin GPSMap 60CSX with the Auto Kit for $539. At first, I didn't think I would need the dash mounting kit but the first thing I did when I got in my SUV was attach my GPS to the bean bag mount. I'm loving it! I also got the US Topo and Neoprene Case for a total of $630.14. I then added the Micro SD 512 Transflash for $61.28. I had everything in my hands by Thursday morning using their Fed Ex standard shipping. Everything is brand new as if buying from a store and I am pleased! The only disappointment is it will not talk to my Mac laptop. I'll either get a serial adapter or just wait for Garmin to make their software Mac compatable. I do have a PC I can use in the meantime but it doesn't have internet for unlocking software and obtaining updates. Since I was getting the City Select and Topo software anyway this seemed the best price offered. I saw the Chumbo website but wasn't comfortable. Just me.
