  1. Even though we are old hands at geocaching we are newbies with geocoins. We hail from W.A....no its not Washington its Western Australia a long way south of the US state. We were the first team to place a geocache in Western Australia. Its near the town of Albany and is still and active cache. Funny to think of our cache as being historical but it is somewhere in the records of notable GEOthings. By now you are wondering what we are on here for.....well...While out doing a spot of maintainence on one of our caches "Sun Makes Light" Which is a night cache we found A wonderful gift of the "The Wishing Coin" Number 119 (if you like to know these things ) We dont often get that warm fuzzy feeling when repairing caches as it can be thankless at times but finding the coin made our day. Thanks so much to the kind person (team) that gives gifts for no other reason that to be nice... We shall cherish it and carry it with us as a reminder that we should all try to be nice if we can. Lyn Pat and Nathan in Sunny W.A. (Western Australia...Perth)
  2. Talk about shaking the tree to see what falls down. You hit a sore spot with many people didnt you. the main thing that has to be considered here isnt why people write so lame or so atrticulate but why they do geocaching. They geocache for themselves. Therefore they will do the cache how they feel they should. Some cheat, some do it the hard way, some do lots in one day and some do only select few that they like the idea of. It follows that they will all enter their logs in both the Cache and the online log differntly. the differences make the hobby the least predictable and therefore the best aspect of geocacheing. Viva la difference. when it comes down to it, if the entrys are bad then the only ones that can be blamed for it are all of us. We all make the hobby so we all take the blame. If we as individuals try to do it right then it will be right. Lyn Pat and Nathan.
  3. There is a printing program called "Fine Print" it allows you to pring multiple pages on the one page. You could do 4 pages per A4 and would then be down to only 100 pages or so. I'm sure there are lots of programs that capture web pages too...do a search in www.cnet.com and see what turns up. Read the reviews of any that take your fancy and go for the freeware or shareware versions.
  4. Nope we are not down that way. We dont know of anyone that is active in your area either. You can usually tell by a heap of caches in a smallish cluster. Why not become the GURU of Esperance and place a dosen or so out so that anyone coming though will be able to find all the special places known only to the locals. Who know its only about 6 hours Drive from Armadale where we live. You could temp us to come down and have a look around if there was a good collection of places to visit. We will have to remember to place some if we get down there. Someone just needs to get the ball rolling and things will happen. Just have a look how much is Happening up towards Dampier/Headland since Team Pathfinder moved back up there. "Place it and they shall come"
  5. These two are close to the city and easy for kids. 1. Gnomes Holiday in kings park. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=6986 incidently kings cache is only 60meters from this one so yoou can find 2 while you are there. 2. South Perth ROX Near the zoo. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=43720 We made both of these ones if you need more details just e-mail us at lynpatnat@yahoo.com
  6. I think most people that Do geocaching dont do it for the love of finding a fabulous prize at the end of it. Most would consider the hunt to be more important. the children that tag along with the parents dont care if its a valuable item of something that came out of a cerial pack. We try to place items that may be of interest rather then PRICE. But if we have nothing available then its whatever we can find that goes in. Try enjoying the event and hunt. also if you stary placing valuable items in the caches then someone else may reciprocate. We will follow if you lead (maybe). and yes it is universal. We have caches full of macdonalds toys over here. We are pllanning to go to Denmark Next year so maybe we will find some interesting Austrlian (probably made in China) items for placing in the caches there. see you in Europe. Lyn Pat and Nathan
  7. Just Do like we did Sue. when the need arives for someone to look at one of your caches you will know by the notes placed on the Log of their visit. Then just e-mail a few of the more fiendly ones you know (like us) that have been to your cache and get them to check on it. If you arnt fully satified with that result then you could archive it. But mostly they will survive on their own. someone will say there is a problem and the next person should (if they also expect the same) will bring along the nesessary repair items. Alan (nissan) Fixed one of ours and we have placed Zip lock bags in a few caches that needed them. Things will be just fine...Trust us. Lyn Pat and Nathan
  8. Not to worry about our cave...Its man made and is just a tunnel in the hill about 60 meters deep. we didnt place the cache there either its above it on the hill. But we do see where you are coming from and certainly would think it better if caves were treated as a finite resource.

  10. I was thinking that places like the Zoo would be a good idea. Not in the Zoo itself but in the area around the zoo or down the road toward the Kranji war memeorial...or one of the other frequent tourist stops on Singapore. I know we would go to plces like that so it must open up the chances for lots more to drop though and find them

  12. The recent cold wet weather has slowed things down a bit but we are looking forward to any new caches that are out there.Just have to find a few suitable containers and some stuff that is worthy to put in them and we will drop another couple. One will be a cave up in the hills behind Gosnells if we can find a way into the place that doesnt include going on private land. stay tuned for that one....Lyn Pat and Nathan

  14. Sounds like a good idea to us. If we can we would try to be there. E-mail us the datails when you know the time and place. lynpatnat@yahoo.com
  15. I dont know about the rest of you but we always carry and use a compass when we geocache. we are in Western Australia and we first use the compass when we get out of the car to know which way to move first (if the GPS is starting cold from that point). then when we get in close and just cant find the place we move back and use a comapss reading to make sure we are going the right way mfor sure. Mostly this is in thich scrub (bush) or hilly areas where the GPS tends to go all error prone. I think the main probem the Swedes had was a language one after all it is your English language. Were glad its ours too. Just been watching the "Queens Golden Jubblies"....or is that "Jubilie"...Nice old girl isnt she. Wish her all the best in the future shes had such a hard time of it lately . Lyn Pat and Nathan. Hope to be there next year to look for some of your caches
  16. I'm hoping that it was the hot weather that was slowing things down. We have noticed that many of the original active geocaches have been very absent lately. We were the first to place a cache and we still try to go out walking to place and find caches. Its one of those things ..if you dont participate by both making caches and finding caches then its obvious that it will be slow going as far as the Hobby goes. We have some graet new ones planned and are gathering the things together and hope to place them in the next couple of weeks (around 20/04/02). have fun.. Lyn Pat and Nathan

  18. We have been adding a few more Caches..and We see that the numbers have grown bigger too in general. We have also noticed that most people will go to the city and ones close to the city but that there is a reluctance to travel or walk or place any real effort into finding the more difficult ones. We have tried a few and found them to be better as it makes a full day of geocaching..Maybe try it out on a hard one see what you think of it. Seeya ..Lyn Pat and Nathan
  19. The only problem I saw was that it was slow to zoom and pan.Accuracy wasnt the primary goal.Try to be constructive as the site has grabbed us and made a new sport (pastime,or what ever you get out of it) for us all...I hope it gets better in some small ways but generaly I feel very good..Cheers to Jeremy..hip hip hoorah !!!
