  4. Somebody might want to let Garmin know this. Garmin has discontinued this software as per two tech reps I have talked to. I would suspect one reason for the City Navigator upgrade is because of the discontinued status of City Select to streamline their software offerings and therefore reduce costs in several ways
  5. UMMMM OK this sucks as per my above apparently premature post i talked with a rep the other day that said V8 IS SHIPPING. well here is yet another version (pun totally intended) from yet another rep but from the cartography department (cartography@garmin.com or call 1-800-800-1020 for availability.) she said V8 is not shipping and no release date has been announced as of this morning for city navigator North America also with this they will not do a free upgrade according to her if I purchase V7 now and V8 comes out a month or two from now. so here i sit with a useless GPSr for road navigation until they FINALLY decide to send a little memo to make the announcement "OFFICAL" this is very UN-
  6. Its no rumor!! Just talked to a garmin rep today City Navigator V8 has been shipping for at least a couple days now. The gal I talked to was suprised I did not find it yet online or at a retailer. I just purchased a 76CSX and wanted to know if I had to pay for the upgrade if i purchased V7. So look hard for the next few days I will be
  7. just purchased my 76CSX on Sunday the 14th found the rebate last night called Garmin today and they will honor the rebate if you are in a similar situation you need to CALL and ask about it. as far as I'm concerned Garmin does it again!!
  8. I currently have: etrex summit an amazingly accurate unit, measured to a bench mark with 3 to 6 foot accuracy 76CSX on my door step today can't wait to get it fired up and hunting
  9. Where do I start? Yesterday day turned interesting and QUITE aggravating at the same time. I went off to find RZ1881 it is oldest in county marked with an X in a rock and a FTF what I found after driving 30 miles is a a bronze disk stamped WHITE 1945 after getting home and some research later i found another entry for white RZ1659. In the description it said they put the disk in the EXACT spot of the X as listed in RZ1881 I logged both with a reference on RZ1881 to RZ1659. my question to the judges is what will happen with this? Do I get a FTF and oldest in county for RZ1881 considering the PID# etc. is still listed, then what about RZ1659. One location TWO entries for a benchmark what to do RZ1881/1902/Y/Y RZ1659/1945/N/N
  10. FINALLY Actually found these last month just now had time to get them logged hope i get this all right RZ0917/1946/N/N RZ0919/1933/N/N RZ0924/1933/N/N RZ0923/1946/N/N RZ0926/1946/N/N RZ0927/1933/N/N RZ0928/1946/N/N RZ0931/1946/N/N RZ0930/1946/N/N RZ0946/1911/N/N RZ0948/1939/N/N RZ0951/1939/N/N
  11. I would go with the 130 or the 515 I have both units and am quite happy with them. it seems I have seen an external power source for these units that you can use standard AA batteries to power the unit by plugging the device into the palm. just cannot remember where I have seen this device I will be getting one if I can find it
  12. WOW Great job on the page, now i dont feel so bad about currently having a big goose egg I do have 14 finds from yesterday but am having trouble with getting the info transfered from my palm to GSAK right now. as soon as i do the next challenge will be downloading them on the finds link And to BilboB, Semper Fi
  13. give this LINK a try. you need your coordinates to input. I have found this site to be very accurate, my GPSr has put me in the EXACT same spot as they show from the sat map.
  14. If you are still trying to figure this out click the right top button until you come to the compass screen, then toggle up or down with top two buttons on left side of unit until you come to the location box at the bottom of the screen.

  16. in GSAK go to GPS on the tool bar and select, next select "send waypoints to GPS" on the right you will se a box that says Maximum Characters the default is eight change that to the max your unit allows.
  17. just did a visit to this site. I like it cant wait for it to get out of beta
  18. thanks have been looking for that, lost my link and wanted to read it again
  19. use this site as a host it is free an quite easy http://photobucket.com/
  20. The Cachemate site showed only one page as a sample. It is a list of GCxxxx and nameof the cache. Can you click on that list and open the informational page of a particular cache. Miragee is right i have a 515 that takes SD cards using the above stated software i currently have over 8500 cache's including benchmarks with FULL discriptions past 5 logs etc. i do not know what a 515 go's for on ebay but going paperless is the best money you will spend besides a good GPSr.
  21. give this a try for resizing your avatar http://fookes.com/ezthumbs/index.php
  22. Another example not mentioned in the above summary: Go to the designated coordinates and then follow the directions for the offset that are printed on the cache page. "From this point, the cache is 225 feet away on a bearing of 145° magnetic." I like those caches; it's good compass practice. A good use of the offset cache type: If your hiding spot is right next to a skyscraper or a cliff, GPS reception at that spot will likely stink. Go to the nearest area with a clear view of the sky with good satellite readings and mark those coordinates, then use an offset for compass navigation to the hiding spot. I Just found my first mulit yesterday and didn't have any clue of how to find the second cache. I have a Garmin eTrex Legend and read the manual but it doesnt' say how to enter 4.28 miles bearing 105.5. I could kind of guess the direction, but 4.28 miles is a long way and in this case a drive since it was across the Minnesota River. Can anyone teach me how to find the second cache of a multi like this? I'd Really appreciate. Try this go to menu - ent way points - ent select current way point (the caches way point) - ent project - ent put in distance for projection - ent put in compass bearing - ent select GOTO - ent this is from my Etrex summit good luck
  23. That would be worse than just having lines on the display! Magellan can likely fix a Garmin unit but the wait would just kill you
