  1. I am fortunate I suppose. It was my wife that first mentioned Geocaching to me. We bought a GPS and cache together.
  2. The radios I have are GMRS as well. I've been looking at the FCC website to get the in's and out's of the license....
  3. We just got back into Caching after an 18 month or so break (wife had a baby). Now that we are back we have repacked our bags and have also added a pair of FRS/GMRS radios to our stuff we carry out. I know that our communication would be primarily between ourselves but a back before the break I remember seeing a post (can't find now) that was talking about 'official' or not so officital channels for cachers to use. I guess to make a long question short, is there an 'official' channel or at least a channel that cachers in general use when out caching? Seay Me (Chip, Nik, Madi)
  4. NO NOT 1337! My eyes! YOu don't happen to play everquest do you?
  5. I gladly pay my $3/mo. All of this hardware costs money, bandwidth cost money, and people that work here have to eat. Even if I didn't use any of the premium features I'd pay. Love the geocache and feel that $3 is a very small price to pay to show my appreciation for what they do with this site to make an activity I love to do a reality.
  6. Well we wanted to wait til Madi could sit up and balance really well so we could put her in a backpack carrier to go with us. We won't be doing any 4's or 5's with her anytime soon but the 1's, 2's and 'maybe' a 3 or two may not be out of the question. If anything gets too bad I'll go on to get the cache while Nik and Madi wait for me to come back. It's gonna be fun with the kido with us. A great way to show her some nature and how to keep it clean (ie: cache in trash out).
  7. We did our first cache in over 18 months. We took a break when my wife got pregnant and now our daughter Madelynne is 9 months old, she joined us today to score her first cache! It felt great to get back out in the hunt. Seay Me "Chip, Nik, and Madi"
  8. Will the 2002 Microsoft S&T 2 second patch work on MapPoint 2002? If not is there a patch that will work on the MapPoint? Chip

  11. One of you had an animated GIF of the eTrex guy posting a flag....The one that shows right when you turn the unit on. I looked in the messages for a while but couldnt find a post with it. Any one know of a message, user or other location I can find that GIF? Thanks Chip

To you mean that clear piece that comes on everything with a display?? That plastic piece is designed to protect during shipping and be removed for use. I know several people that leave it on for the same reason you do though. As far as replacing it...My suggestion would be to peel the remaining plastic stuff off of the display and carefully place some packing tape over the display. Chip

I am sick of waiting 1 minute for the distance to waypoint to update and of the arrow pointing everywhere. I also am interested in the WAAS capability. What do you think? I use the yellow etrex and don't expierence the long wait for the distance to waypoint, I do however get the 'dizzy arrow'. I've heard the 'dizzy arrow' is a 'flaw' in all of the GPSr's in the etrex line. Chip [This message was edited by Seay me on September 12, 2002 at 07:38 PM.]

    Iowans?

A friend of my wife told her about it and suggested that we look into it. Chip

Lots of people use them for when they have multiple printers on one machine... Should work with GPS. Duh...That didn't even cross my mind!! That's better than my idea...and cheaper. Chip
  17. That's the one. I'll put it in my 'favorites' liat now. Thanks Markwell Chip
  18. quote:They must really be having some problems with these to have missed the hunting seasons and a lot of the Christmas season, if this is true! I've heard they're waiting for FCC approval for the 'one touch' coordinate sending feature to be approved. I'm not sure what the catch is on it, but there's something about that feature that got the FCC's underwear in a bunch. Chip
  19. What about something like this? http://www.cablesnmor.com/pci-parallel.html You may be able to fine one cheaper at a computer shop around where you live. Chip
  20. I can't find the link to the webpage that shows the cacher ratings....Can someone help me out? I did a search in the forums, but didn't see it...I probably looked right over it. Can someone please pass it on? Chip
  21. Not sure about the wireless, but here's the link to the tread about the FRS channels. By the way, the verdict was channel 2 for primary and 12 for secondary. http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=1750973553&f=3000917383&m=1410968135 Chip
  22. We've been caching since mid-June and are about to place our first cache. We've found a place and have the 'booty' for it. The container is about a 3 quart clear rubbermade container. The 'booty' is: Two 13 gallon trashbags(just incase someone feels the urge to Cache in Trash out, Suction cup digital clock, small knife, hacky sack, battery powered personal fan, emergency pancho, logbook, bug repelent (should be left in cache for those who may have forgot to put some on), 2 AA batteries, a couple of other odds and ends and of course the "You've found this cache sheet. We waited a couple of months and logged a few finds so we'd know somewhat how it worked. Does the cache sound reasonable so far? Chip
