    etrex software

Makes sence to me. I wasn't thinking of the internal hardware that is actually contained 'inside' the unit. I was thinking of attaching devices that would connect via data cable. Chip
  2. Everyone has pretty much covered it. It's a great activity and we're in it for the long haul. Thanks again, Chip and Nik

    etrex software

What kind of hardware would they be speaking of. I may just be ignorant on the matter, but I thought the basic eTrex was just a standalone unit. Chip
  5. I just saw this post and realized that I must have hit 'new topic' instead of 'reply'. Must have been tired.... Chip
  6. I agree, it will get to be about the finding 'it' regardless what 'it' is. Wait until you go after one and can't find it, then go look for the same one again and still can't get it.....It does become personal! Chip
  7. Nice rifle! Don't have to worry about too many 'critters' with that thing on hand! Chip
  8. I've got the emails from my posts...I'm not watching any caches, but the discussion emails came to me yesterday.. Chip
  9. We've used goodies, trinkets, stuff for the cache, cachetts.....don't know. Chip and Nik
  10. We bought the entry lever eTres (the yellow one) and are very happy with it so far. We've decided that we're going to upgrade to one with mapping capabilities in the future, it'd come in handy on the way out of town trips. The only problem we've seen so far that with a lot of tree cover we do tend to lose reception with the internal antenna. Over all I'd definately recommend it for a beginner. Chip and Nik
  11. Our standard eTrex in our Saturn SC1 is dead on with the MPH.
  12. I didn't realize that there was a previous thread. I did a quick search but didn't see the thread that you posted the link to. Chip
  13. What do you guys carry with you when you are geocaching? When my wife and I go I carry a backback with a full size flashlight, a mini flashlight, GPS, extra batteries, whistle, reflective belt, things to trade in the cache, pen and paper, cell phone (turned off), mini first aid kit, bug repellant, knife, and depending on the cache a change of clothes. Just curious as to what others take anong on the trip.
  14. I don't think it will make much difference because the upgrade looks to be pretty transparent, but I upgraded the software in my etrex from 2.10 to 2.14. It cant hurt to try. I also emailed Garmin asking them the same question that I posted originally....still wating on a reply, they said it could take up to 7 business days due to the increased seasonal requests for support. 16. I call it an activity. If I had to choose I'd call it a Game. To me a sport requires competition with another participant to accomplish a common goal. I don't feel that I'm in a competition with anyone. My vote is Game if I had to choose. Chip
  17. I'm using a Garmin eTrex (the yellow one). I just have a question on the functionaily of operating it under heavy cover. There has been more than one occation where the GPS would seem to stop functioning with no warning of a weak signal. I can walk in a big circle and the directional arrow will not change direction, the speed will not change, but the "distance from destination" number changes. Does any of this sound normal? I was under the impression that it either worked or it didn't, not one part work (distance from destination), and one part not work (directional arrow) . Any information will be greatly appreciated. 19. I'll check them out. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner, but I'll give ebay a try also. There's bound to be some on there. Chip
  20. www.mapsonus.com does what I was looking for. I didn't get any software from garmin. My GPS is the basic entry level yellow one, all it came with is the GPS and a strap. Thanks again, Chip
  21. Anyone have any good instructions or know of a good website on directions to build a datacable for the Garmin Etrex(yellow)? I looked on the web but most of the pages I found gave me a "page could not be displayed" error. Chip
  22. Just got into Geocaching yesterday, it seems like a great activity!! I got the yellow entry level garmin etrex, I'll update if I find the need to. I do have a question though, hope this is the right place to ask.... Is there a website I can go to to type in a street address and get the approximate coordinates? I've looked on google, but can't seem to find anything. Thanks, Chip
