  1. A lifelong deam for me--Everytime I am out there, I nag my brother about going to Oak island, and we get too busy everytime. Now watch him win the dang thing!!
  2. Some people like drama, I guess. ... and attention. I'm confused. With these statements, you seem to be saying that it is an issue that should be put to rest. Yet on the RD forum, you have both suggested "calling out" other cachers. There is no way I would publicly belittle another cacher, so I respect the fact that people affected by this issue are not pointing fingers.
  3. I am still having the issue of the lines and blank screen. I discovered that hitting the unit does work, however, it is rarely the gentle tap that others are suggesting! As for the stick, mine just recently crapped out too, but mine will go left and right, not up and down. I was leary of that stick when aI bought the unit but was assured by the sales team that it would not break. I haven't look at the newer ones yet. Do they have the stick as well?
  4. Yep, there have been a few trantums on the trail for me. Occasionally it shuts off, I get thin horizontal lines across the screen, usually I can still read what is behind them. And sometimes larger, thick ones and I can't see anything behind them.
  5. If you can get out of Halifax, you have to do the PATNOYF series (plain as the nose in your face). Amazing.
  6. I don't claim to know the guidelines by heart, so I can't comment on whether or not a rule has been broken. However, I will say that I have in the past read a number of PlasmaBoy's logs, and never once did I see it as a solicitation. It is only now that GC.com has brought it up that it even crossed my mind. Out of curiosity--I did a cache once that contained nothing but a log book and LDS pamphlets. Would that be considered against the rules?
  7. Great! Thanks for adding the link nicolo!
  8. I finally managed to settle on a date for a meet & greet in Lethbridge. It's going to be fairly simple, just a chance to say hello. I promise there won't be anyone there ridiculing us for doing something we enjoy, or making fun of people who like to spend time with their kids. Hope everyone can pop in. Check out GC15XGN for the details!
  9. Yeah, I must admit that Mobi going down was the best thing that ever happened to my PDA. Rather than buying anything, I thought I would download GPXView to use in the interm, until Mobi was back up because I too was a religious user. Wow, what a difference. It's basically a mini version of the website.
  10. I must admit I have come back to this post a few times because I really get a chuckle out of it. It's kind of like saying "When we were kids we tightened our roller skates with a key and that's how we liked it! Now it's been ruined with rollerblades and heelies!!" You really are talking about two different things here--geocaching and orienteering. I have found the nano in the parking lot, and I have also kayaked to one which was, between paddling and hiking, an all day round trip for one cache. I thought I would take a look at the caches you have done to see what caches gave you such a harsh opinion of our game. Now, unless I am looking under the wrong profile, you haven't got any finds listed. I don't claim by any means to be an expert on the game, but at least I went out and gave it a shot. If you do ever decide to try caching, choose the cache that interests you. There are thousands of different ones out there. I'm sure one, at least, will meet your high standards.
  11. I ran a new query under so I could test out GPXView. It's been over an hour and it hasn't been emailed to me yet. This ever happen to anyone? Am I just being impatient?? They usually come much faster.
  12. [i'm going to give GPXView or GPXSonar a shot. As for a Mac, I don't have any experience with that. So I don't know if those will work or not.
  13. Thanks for the update. I'm using an IPAQ Pocket PC. I'll see if I can figure out another one of those programs you suggested.
  14. Anyone know what's up with MobiPocket? The site has been "down for maintenance" for quite a while. Is there another program that anyone can suggest?
  15. I would be there. If you post it they will come. The DRHD Forum is going to be shut down soon. I am going to be changing the GAS Website and removing the link to the Forums. Gary was just great about setting it up and offering the time and space but there isn't a lot of traffic and there are many spammers and maintenance issues involved with such a site. Family issues have kind of pushed geocaching aside lately for GarAr but I know that there are Lethbridge cachers who would come to an event in Lethbridge, we have had Lethbridge cachers show up at events here in Medicine Hat. If you are thinking of an adult only "jug and wing" type of event you might not have as many takers, that is just a guess though. I think it is a great idea. Thanks Wavector. I have looked at the GAS site many times, and really wasn't sure if it was still being used. The last couple of times I couldn't get on. Let me know if you do get something else going--I'll help where I can. As for the meet and greet, I was thinking something family friendly as half of my team is underage! I can take care of the beer, Sunny-C & Sunny-Batman can take on the wings. I think I will try to do something September-ish as summer is busy for us all.
  16. You probably have already done this, but I would try going to their last couple of postings. Look up the profiles of some cachers who were there around the same time and see if they are from the same area and try emailing a few of them. Good luck!
  17. Thanks for the replies you guys. But so far, it looks like it's just me and my good buddy Weiser!!
  18. For a long time I have wanted to host a cache event in Lethbridge. I would love to meet some fellow players, and toss some ideas around for some more cache hides. Is there anyone out there interested or would I be downing the jugs myself? Feel free to post a reply here and also email me! Sunny-K
  19. I always order from the 3Geeks. They are great. Here are a few: 3geeks.ca GPSCentral.ca World Caching Landsharkz.ca
  20. I can't say that there really is a norm. The cache can contain virtually anything, less the common sense items--food, lighters, stuff like that. The cache placement is totally up to you. My favorite are the urban micros. But you have to remember to respect private property. I have done a number of caches on private propert but the owner knows about it and it is in the cache posting that you can go on the private land. We have a swag bag that we carry around, and every couple of months we go to the dollar store and stock up on small but useful items. Lanyards, locks, small decks of cards, small camping items are great. But don't feel you always have to trade. We also carry small repair items in case we come across a cahce that needs a little toch up. Extra log books, ziplocs, pencils. I generally don't trade anything unless my kids are with me, then it is impossible not too! The cache container itself is also up to you. I have seen them from simple magnetic keyholders to something like a false wall built into an existing structure. Take nothing for granted when you are looking--nothing is ever as it seems!
  21. Thanks for the advice Miragee. I thought that maybe it was a mistake until I checked out all of his caches. (Who really has the problem here--obsess much!?) Anyway, every one of his places are logged as finds. I guess he is one of those that are so into numbers (190ish right now) that he would rather compromise the game.
  22. I didn't think so. I was quite disappointed when I noticed people doing that!!
  23. I have noticed in my area that some cachers log their own hides as finds if they go out to do maintenance. Does anyone else do this? Is it a typical practice?
