yeah... I was hoping I can do a simple search online. I know downloading the data isn't that hard. Just annoying to switch between programs

Is thera a search option to sort cache according to the nestest cache placed in specific zipcodes or cities?
-
Off topic questions.... where did you get all those coins? did you buy them in varies websites online??? And do you track geocoins like you track TB?
-
I agree with all the posts about adding logsheet + not removing log + using common sense, etc. My question was geared more towards microcaches, where you can fit one small logsheet and that's about it. I checked out the owner's profile and it seems that he hasn't gone geocaching for over a year. It's safe to say that the cache(s) is/are no longer under the owner's care. Many geocachers have also requested logsheets to be replaced on multiple occasi ons. At what point do we say.... change logsheet?

Interesting discovery though.... I went to Garmin's website and checked out the TOPO US-base map. Took a look at the Map view on the right of the page.... I discovered that they labelled one of the major highway in LA WRONG. They labelled the 710 as route 7... and also labelled part of the 710 is also route 91. the 91 intersect with the 710, not become the 710. I'm curious how they made such a big mistake....

Garmin Etrex Legend Cx Usb No Connection?
ozymandiasism posted a topic in GPS technology and devices
I am having huge problem connecting my eTrex Legend CX to my laptop via USB. It would work sometimes and it won't most of the time. I can't even find the unit in MapSource or GSAK!!! I know that GSAK doesn't work with Garmin's CX series, but I can't even download data from MapSource. I checked Garmin's website and followed the instructions on updating all the map versions, driver versions and unit software, and still no help. Anyone have problems with their USB connection??? -
Voice Road Navigation & Geocaching... What To Buy?
ozymandiasism replied to mrgreggyp's topic in GPS technology and devices
Yeah I know the nuvi looks pretty awesome, but I don;t think it is made for off-road usage. however, Nuvi 360 is coming out in July... with bluetooth and wireless capabilities.... pretty sweet I have a Nuvi, and I use it for Geocaching. I have to first input the geocache coordinates on my PC then load on to the NUVI. You then just follow the waypoint. The cool thing is it will tell you how to drive to the location. You can also see the lat & long coordinates on the NUVI when you press on the signal bars. It's awesome for the road too. Restie -
I do not own one, but a lot of people from this MB would recommend the Garmin eTrex Yellow. A much more accurate unit. A used one on ebay ranges from 10-35 bucks (exclude s/h)

I, too, went geocaching with my new Legend CX yesterday. I owned a Quest II before and I think that the Quest II is more accurate than the Legend. I found a couple of caches and about 4 not-quite-ready-to-declare-DNFs. I do feel that a couple of instances, the Legend wasn't giving out accurate locations

I uploaded a map and it kept giving me error msgs on my GPSr... it is really annoying that you can't delete the map -
thanks for the tips

If I visit a cache and the log sheet is full. Can I replace the logsheet myself? What should i do with the old one if it won't fit in the cache?

I have uploaded some maps and other data onto an expandable MicroSD card in my Garmin eTrex Legend CX using the MapSource software. Does anyone know how to delete the map and those data? I can't seem to be able to delete them and the GPSr doesn't show up as a drive in "My Computer" Any help is appreciated!

ya know... I hate the amazon cookie function. I went back to amazon 30min after my initial search. The price for vista cx has jumped back to $350, rather than $330 I saw 30min ago. *grunt*
-
Interesting. I have been tracking the prices as well but I guess I missed it. Vista and legend are basically the same except for a couple of extra funtions the vista enabled. Just went to amazon.com and the vista cx is listed as 330

Etrex Legend And Mapsource City Select Na Nt 7
ozymandiasism replied to ozymandiasism's topic in GPS technology and devices
I think you nailed the key point there.... I am confident that I could upload regular CS maps... but unsure about the NT version. I bought a Quest II and called garmin to get a copy of the CS. however, I hated the unit so I returened it. I'm now in search for another unit (most likely geared more towards geocahcing vs. autorouting). Since I have a copy of the mapping software, I was just wondering if I would be able to utilize it on another Garmin GPSr. -
What is the easiest way to plot a route on google map or Gmaps Pedometer, then export as a GPX file to a GPSr? The instruction on Gmaps Pedometer is pretty unclear and I couldn't get it to work. Thanks!!!! Update: Actully just got the file to transfer.... I still have to road test to see if the routing is done right.... has anyone tried this before?
-
I have bought a Quest II and I think I am going to return it in a few days. I really HATE the interface.... it is just extremely.... annoying. it also took a long time to load up the maps. I could overlook this issue with additional memories, but I guess I am losing my patient.

Garmin Quest Ii Routing Problem. Help Needed!
ozymandiasism replied to ozymandiasism's topic in How do I...?
A couple of things play here. I'm going to the Grove on Tuesday myself for a meeting at work. The email inviteing me to the meeting had the address in it so I just used the Find/Addresses and typed in the address...done. The Grove itself could be a Points of Intrest (POI), but it's not. You would think it would be but it's not. If it was a POI you could go to the map page on the Quest2,,,move your arrow to Anaheim, then do a find from there. I'll save you alot of time. The address is: 2200 E Katella Ave Anaheim, CA 92806 N33.80369 W117.88596 There are 6 million POI's in the Quest2, unfortunately The Grove is not one of them. I you don't know the address you could look it up on Goggle or view it in Goggle Earth. It a nice GPSr, I hope you will enjoy it. I was actually talking about the grove on 3rd and fairfax. But either way, even if I check out POI, I was only abe to find POI that is near me (Find Near Me). If I was in LA and wanted to go to, let's say... disneyland or seaworld, it doesn't help me while I'm driving. it is weird taht you can't search places beyond your immedicate location except to punch in the actualy address Like I said.....move your arrow to the area that you want to look for a POI in and press find/theaters etc. I'm not in Kansas, but I could within seconds find the resturants in Kansas City. When you move the arrow to the area you want to search and do the find you are seaching in that area. I just found the Songa BBQ in San Antonia, Texas in about 8 seconds. I'm in Los Angles. I could hit the route button and it would route me right to it. Try it. Of course while you are driving, things like that are hard to do. I'd just pull into the nearest 711 or something and do that. ok... so you need to zone out to the map, point the cursor to wheree you think the target is.... then do a find near? wow ok.... my GPSr is fairly slow on searcing. I don't know how you can achieve that type of results in such a short period of time... -
