  1. hehe.. just realized I have never sent the coin design to Groundspeak for approval... LOL....oops Bryan should be getting an email about now...
  2. OK this is a very preliminary design of the coin... Front: "我愛香港" means "I Love Hong Kong" in chinese. It is a little too cheesy for me... I'm still trying to decide if I should just get rid of "I Love" and just leave it as "Hong Kong". There will be 3 different layers... the skyand the water would be the lowest level... then the buildings (3D) and then the junkboat (also 3D) would be raised. Back "在 於 geocaching.com 追 查".... direct translation would be: "At" geocaching.com "track(investigate)" Obviously, this is a map of Hong Kong and the little chinese characters represent the name of the area. The slightly larger and bold font types present the name of the county (or island). Also, the map would be in 3D. I am trying to create the map such that it would represent the topographic landscape of Hong Kong (ie, mountain areas would be riased... urban area would be relatively flat, etc). It sounds pretty complex and I am unsure how realistic it is to create the mold... I will get in touch with the rep at the coin mint next week. There are still tons of details to fine tune but this is the general idea for the coin. For example... the fonts needs to be bigger at the back.... etc. I will send out anotehr update when I have more info! Thank you! d
  3. Just want to give you guys an update on the hong kone geocoin... I have been extremely busy lately with work and just don't have much time to manage any other projects going on in my life. A couple of reasons: 1) My contact at the coin mint is doing tradeshows and traveling around the world and won't be back till next month; and 2) a possible 3000 miles+ relocation for work. Let me tell ya... they make it really hard to concentrate working on the coin. Still, I am coordinating with my friend on the coin design and we shall have something to show you in the next couple of weeks. Basic coin design: Front: Hong Kong skyline with the junkboat in front of all the buildings at Victoria harbor. At the top, it wouls say "Hong Kong 2007" (I figure, it would be 2007 by the time these go into production, might as well). At the bottom, it would say "Hong Kong" in chinese. Back: A geographical map of Hong Kong and the depth of the map would be based on the elevation of the location (ie, it'll be higher if there's a mountain, and lower if it's a low level residential area.". I will also try and list out all the major area in chinese writing as well. (I really like the concept of the back of the coin, but I'm unsure how difficult it will be to make... I guess I'll find out next month). Icon: A Bauhinia blakeana, the floral emblem of Hong Kong. Will keep you guys updated in the next couple of weeks! thx d
  4. YAY!!!!! one of my coins visited a stargate and traveled to west australia and now jumped into 4th spot! I can't wait to see the update!!! woohoo!!!!!
  5. Cool! 2 of my coins are racing side by side in the top 40 range after completing 6 laps each! Awesome!
  6. I like it too. the only question I have.... is whether or not future orders for the same custom prefix with an existing icon can be purchased with a min. 250 code order. My assumption is yes, but just want to make sure...
  7. Because this is America and that is his right. hmmm... actually.. no. Nacaya is in Germany, and the original poster, Fundamental and Venlis, is in Finland. So, just because YOU are in America doesn't make THIS America. As long as people follow the guidelines it doesn't matter where people are from. Now when someone posts a coin for sale it will get opinions from both sides. Imagine that. Not everyone will have a rubber stamp of approval saying this is awesome. Stealing from my other thread: In my observations, most times when "one of you" post comments regarding geocoins, majority of these comments are negative towards the coins, or the posters, or both. I don't care how liberal a person can be, but when everytime you see the same individuals express the same negative comments on the same subject, his patience is going to wear thin. And negative comments are generally being taken in as personal attacks, regardless of the intentions. It is just human nature. Thus, I'm not saying you have no right to express your negative feedbacks, but you should also expect the same type of feedback going back to you. Well, so much for you response in the other thread complaining about people go straight at the poster rather than to the issue. I have no idea where this is coming from. And quite frankly, I would love to find out where my "support" is. I have created one set of coins so far and a lot of people have enjoyed them, and along the process, I have learned a great deal about manufacturing process. It is fun and I intend to do more. And no worries about taking my comments and "support" lightly. I never care about yours either. I tend to treat people with respect until they have proven to me othrwise, but I always treat them the way they treat me. And yes, permission doesn't override common sense. So use it wisely.
  8. I guess the "nicey nice group" are just simply exercising their rights of free speech to disagree on all the negative comments from "one of us" group. In my observations, most times when "one of you" post comments regarding geocoins, majority of these comments are negative towards the coins, or the posters, or both. 10. Hi there, First of all, I want to thank everyone again for purchasing and trading with my Double Dragon Geocoins. I have learned so much over the course of the process and it has truly been a fantastic and fun experience! I am now working towards my next project: Hong Kong Geocoin Let me give you a little history lesson on this China Pearl: The name "Hong Kong", literally meaning "fragrant harbor", was a British colony from 1842, until its sovereignty was transferred to China in 1997. Hong Kong is on the eastern side of the Pearl River Delta on the southeastern coast of China, facing the South China Sea in the south, and bordering Guangdong Province in the north. Hong Kong consists of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. The entire city has 236 islands in the South China Sea, of which Lantau is the largest. Hong Kong Island itself is the second largest and also the most populated. Ap Lei Chau (which is where I used to live) is the most densely populated island in the world. There are currently 51 active caches in Hong Kong. I am designing a geocoin dedicated to the city I was born and lived in until I was 13, before studying abroad in England and then settling in the United States. My family and friends are still living in Hong Kong and I try to go back and visit every couple of years or so. I have yet to decide on the design on the coin, but it would likely be the skyline of Hong Kong on one side and a junk boat (a signature Hong Kong icon) on the other. I am also playing with the idea of putting the map of Hong Kong on it as well. I am looking for some feedback regarding the Hong Kong Geocoin idea; please send me an email @ derek@dwprods.com let me know if you would be interested in purchasing the Hong Kong geocoin, and how many, would be great help! This is not a commitment to buy; I am only seeking feedback before I move forward on the coin. A bunch of these Hong Kong geocoins will be set out in the wild, depending on the number of coins minted. Most likely, 25 will be set free for 500 coins minted, and 50 for 1,000. I also have not decided if I would set them free in Hong Kong (unsure when I will go back either), or in the US and set their missions to travel to the Far East. Or maybe, someone would be interested in bringing them to Hong Kong for me?? Thank you very much again!!!
  11. Shilo, you might have missed one of my coins: Ozy's Ocean State Premier Race Geocoin, which is currently 97 (I think). It should be around 30-something Thank you!!!! d
  12. hmmm no. then again... my rocket man isn't exactly up there this yar... *sighs*
  13. The Grand Canyons is only a few hours drive away. If some folks are making this a vacation rather than just a 2 day trip, it can be a fun thing to do. (or, just take a helicopter trip)
  14. Great.... just when I thought I would be able to attend one of the events in the west coast..... I might be moving back to the east coast.... so I have missed GW4.... I'm missing the GONE event AND I will miss the NGME... great... well, nothing is final... but we'll see.
  15. Over the Weekend: Psychochicken personal geocoin Today: One Yemon Yime!!
  16. I will LOVE to get 3 of the GONE geocoins!!! Questions: * Also, can you invoice me on the spy scret agent coin as well please? * Do you still have anymore of the "Avroair was here" button? I would like to get one, and maybe 2 of those as well. What are the specs of the buttons? * Last question... $1 shipping. I assume that's $1 per coin? If so, would I be able to combine shipping? Thank you much! GREAT coins! d
  17. You know... I just wanted to start a thread that can be fun to read and will tell us a little bit about each other in this forum. I guess my attempt of starting something drama free is apparently a failure. God knows we complain enough here. But if more people feel this way. I will close the thread
  18. ok... I'm stealing this thread idea from the West/Southwest regional forum. Tell us how you come up with your geocaching screen name... I'll start first. Ozymandiasism Ozymandias is one of my favorite poems that I learnt in highschool. Have always liked the idea behind it and so, naturally.... it becomes one of my screen names. "Ozymandias" is a rather common screen name, and therefore, I added the "ism" after it. Ozymandias Percy Bysshe Shelley 1792-1822 I met a traveler from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read, Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed, And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.
  19. neat idea! Avroair, I know you have asked you this before, but I just can't find the thread.... are you still selling the secret agents coins? or do you have a site I can look at other coins that you have designed/minted? Thx much! d
  20. yeap. definitely interested in getting a couple of these coins!!!
  21. So, do you mean the 4 coins would combine to create 1 single treasure map? I have not been to the previous events... what type of event is this? Sounds like a good idea. Depends on the coins of course! But if they look anything like your other coin ideas, I'll buy one set, and maybe even two.
  22. All right. All the Double Dragon geocoins are now SOLD OUT!! My website will reflect the changes in a few hours. I st9ll have a few coins left for personal use and trades. Just want to say THANK YOU to everyone for making this project possible!!! Have a great weekend! d
