  1. A fun multicache in my neighborhood (Wandering Pirate's Dream GCJPNT) has gone stale and the owner apparently hadn't responded to repeated warnings last summer from admin about it being archived. I would be happy to adopt it in order to get it unarchived or, worst case, recreate it in the same location. Would prefer to adopt the old instance though since that will preserve the find history. Any admins lurking about who could point me to the most appropriate next step? Thanks.
  2. I have a nearly identical experience with a TB. The unfortunate part is that it wasn't mine. It belonged to a friend who'd registered his first TB and hadn't had time, due to new baby in the family, to release it. I took it from Seattle to Vancouver in March 2008 and released it for him. It was picked up the next day by a first-time cacher who specifically mentioned 'moving it along on its quest', but then the TB and the cacher went dormant. A few gentle nudges via email have thus far elicited no responses. I've also had 3-4 GCs that I released in the Seattle area go dormant or missing. The odds of keeping my TB/GC fleet in motion are less than heartening some days. I have a few Geo Slug coins that I picked up recently that I'll probably release before end of summer. Will have to see what my live vs. missing stats look like for each type at the end of the summer before deciding what to rely on for future GC/TB purchases. Here's hoping your Trackables have long and well-traveled lives. Cheers.
  3. SSL ain't going to do squat to protect you from a keystroke logger on the library computer. That's true, but SSL will protect your session if the client is trusted but the network you're on isn't (hotel, cybercafe, freebie wifi on the metro train or airport, etc). SSL just seems like a basic precaution that should be in place to protect our accounts from a trivial method of compromising them.
  4. These days a cleartext login isn't a great idea for any website and GC.com is no exception. It forces me to keep a sacrificial, non-premium account around for situations when I need to log into GC.com from a system that I don't trust (eg. a kiosk at a library, hotel or webcafe) and don't want to risk my real GC account's credentials from being sniffed off of the wire or via a keystroke logger on the terminal itself. Even then, that's only useful for searches; I still have to wait to get to a reasonably secure trusted machine to post my finds via my real account. Note: if it's a backwards compatibility issue, you could always offer both cleartext and ssl-enabled pages and let users choose which one they prefer. What's the likely timeframe for a secure login page? - Wash P.S. Not intended as a troll post, just asking when it'll be an offering.
