  1. Thank you both, I'll give these a try if it happens again. Very helpful!
  2. This is a real mystery to me. I just spent quite a while uploading geocaches to my Garmin eTrex 20, then after disconnecting it and turning it on, I deleted the track and trip records. I then turned it off and reattached it to my laptop to add a few more caches. When I then turned it back on again, none of the older uploaded caches were visible or findable on the screen, just the new ones, despite the GPX files still being on the GPS. This has happened once or twice before now as well since I had to switch to Internet Explorer after Firefox stopped working for Garmin a couple of months back. I don't know what exactly is causing it to stop showing the geocaches it has loaded into it! I've ignored it in the months till now as I mostly hunt for geocaches using my phone but I'm currently abroad so this is a real pain in the backside! I don't understand what's happening here; can anyone help?
  3. If they're in the same area, perhaps send an email to the reviewer who published your other caches? It's likely that they are the same person.
  4. So I'm getting rid of my old Garmin eTrex 10 and have done the Setup/Reset/Reset All Settings function, which has cleared all the geocaches and waypoints stored in it and restored factory settings, but in the calendar it still has all the geocaches I've found listed in it. Does anyone know how/if I can clear this? Thanks
  5. Another thing to consider is that they might have technological reasons for leaving shorter logs - for instance, I try to leave longer logs, but sometimes if I'm using my smartphone to log a find they end up being shorter as it's a pain to type out a longer log on the little screen.
  6. The @GoGeocaching Twitter account posted a photo of this log book a wee while back from GC3R42X ( ) I think there was some discussion about how the boards had been attached to the tree and whether this had been done appropriately though.
  7. It might be worth also contacting the Geocaching Association of Great Britain (G.A.G.B.) if you haven't already: http://gagb.co.uk/
  8. I think this summarises my view on trackables. I always aim to drop them off again within a fortnight, but sometimes things come up and it's not possible, but I do my best. I have some currently that I've had for a week and a half without being able to get them to a suitable size cache, but I'm hoping to remedy that today or at the very longest within a week by planning to get to some larger caches.
  9. Unfortunately it's not their only cache in the area and none of them are being maintained or updated (including for example a multi-cache which now has inaccurate/misleading information on it due to changes in local businesses since they last logged in). I'm pretty certain that they aren't interested in doing any maintenance or even updating their caches. I've emailed the owner to ask to adopt it (no response) but, after the helpful advice given in this thread, I understand that this is my only option so I'm not pursuing it any further at this point.
  10. I'd also be interested in finding out if there are caches nearby which are up for adoption. Is there any way of finding this out?
  11. Thanks; I was wondering if there was any way of a reviewer or someone transferring ownership, but it sounds like there isn't. That's useful to know anyway, thank you for the quick response!
  12. There is a geocache at the end of my road which is a D5 and very popular/well-known by local cachers. The owner hasn't logged in for over 2 years and doesn't respond to emails. The cache is marked as needing maintenance; is there a way to officially adopt it seeing as the owner is clearly AWOL (this would allow the adopter to clear the 'needs maintenance' attribute for example) beyond just doing occasional maintenance on a local cache?
