  1. Hi all, This is actually MissEm's DH. I have been assigned this troubleshooting problem. We have a yellow eTrex, and the data cable that connects it to a computer via a serial-to-USB adapter. We have been using this setup, along with MS Streets & Trips, on her laptop for a while, with no problems. However, we have just purchased a new Toshiba laptop (same brand as our other one) and the interface will not work reliably. We can make the connection OK, but for some reason the GPS will intermittently just go "schizo". Things like max speed of 3000 mph, and the "snail trail" on the computer jumping all over the place. The eTrex also seems to have much lower accuracy, and also seems to have a harder time receiving the satellites. As soon as we disconnect from the computer, the eTrex behaves normally. Like I said, it works fine with the other computer, but not with the new one. I have tried playing around with the port settings without any success, and have also tried a different serial-to-USB adapter. I have also tried changing the COM port that is being assigned to the adapter. Nothing is working. Any other suggestions out there? It is really getting frustrating knowing that it works on another computer but not being able to get it to work on the newer one. Thanks in advance, Lyle
  2. Well, we'll be traveling both directions... round trip! It's very helpful to know which ones are westbound and which ones are eastbound. Thanks so much for posting those! I thought we might get over there this weekend, but doesn't look like we will. I still hope we can later this fall, so I will keep the list handy! Thank you! "Some people are just interesting. 4. I'm trying to come up with a list of quick caches along I-90 between Spokane and Seattle. I'm not sure yet when we'll be going, but it would be a fun way to break up the trip for the kids to stop along the way to do some "treasure hunting". I know there are several at rest areas, and I've been trying to go through the list picking those out. But then it occurred to me that maybe someone had already done that, and I didn't need to "reinvent the wheel"! TIA! "Some people are just interesting. They can't help it. 5. I'm brand new at this... but the idea of trading cards appeals to me. You can buy sheets of perforated blank business cards at OfficeMax or wherever and run them through your printer. Would something like that be okay? I've been playing around with a design, but I was just wondering about a couple things. Would this be something of a signature item where I would just leave one per cache visited? If that's the case I might laminate them to make them a little nicer. Or would I maybe leave, say, a dozen rubber-banded together in each cache so that any visitor who wanted one could take one? I'm not to the stage yet where I'll be hiding any caches in the near future... right now I'm just getting a feel for the game.
