  1. Excellent concept... Too bad I'm not in B.C. Good luck with it. "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  2. Hey: I would love to attend -- Thousand Islands is my home away from -- but will be in Ottawa over the Easter weekend... good luck with it though! "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  3. HEY DR: That's unbelieveable... great news and well done to ooga booga who deserves a special round of applause... CHINA!!!! Wow! "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"

(Things were blown out of proportion it seems, and that was precisely the anticipated problem...) View the news story http://tv.ksl.com/index.php?nid=39&sid=11248 And it took some sleuthing, but here is the actual http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=39994 Let's consider the future of our sport. Unfortunately, we are affected by uncontrolled and uncontrollable factors. We have to CHOOSE our reaction to it. canadazuuk Thanks for the links... surely we all understand that even at the best of times, searching for a geocache in any location might be easily misinterpreted. Putting a geocache near military establishments is ill-advised. Frankly, putting "stashes" in many, many locations is sure to raise the suspicions of passers-by. So I am not sure the reactions to this cache's discovery were that "out of proportion." See yer DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  5. quote:Originally posted by Dave, Trina & Alex:COOOOOOL! Sounds like you're thinking of a SCUBA-cache... or is that a new type, like multi, and virtual chaces are? Either way, race you, to be the first to lay it out (my little princess and I both have dry suits)! OK D,T & A it's a race and since we both have that nasty ice stuff to contend with... we have a little time to plan!!!! Hey, actually mine is a multi with the final clues at depth and the cache on the surface a short distance from the underwater locale... near your area too! DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  6. Kudos to DonnaG for taking the parks folk for a geocaching experience. Now do we extend some suggestions for guidelines? DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  7. I visited the cache where all this seems to have started (looked on your found list) but there doesn't seem to be a link to a "RACE PROGRESS" page... or am I missing it? Thanks DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  8. What is the collective noun for a group of adult "protective" undergarments? Perhaps it's a Dampness of Diapers DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  9. This is an interesting concept... caches that require more planning -- and committment -- to get to. Certainly would be an interesting addition to the "sport." I have an underwater cache ready for placement -- need to wait for the water to get soft again to release it. And I thought long and hard about the fairness of it... it's tough to get to, is deep and therefore is only accessible to very few geocachers. But I decided to go for it anyway. 10. quote:Originally posted by mtncycler:There was a cache put together, with 8 travel bugs attatched to hot wheels cars. Their mission is to have their photos taken on both coasts of Canada, then to make their way back "home," the first one back, "wins." My question is this...one of the bugs has been lost. The owner of the bug AND cache, has used a 'replacement' bug to continue the race, is this right? Shouldn't the person be outta the race? Let me know your thoughts, Thanks Mtncycler(geocannonball ranch contestant) Depends on the rules of play I guess... sounds OK to me... bugs go missing and that's not the owner's fault. I say find the cacher that lost the bug and STONE HIM! Stone the *******! Just a thought DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  11. quote:Originally posted by tirediron:...I am thinking about the Magellan Meridian Platinum. Has anyone used that model, any pro's or con's with it or the Meridian line? Are there any "must have features"? Thanks all, appreciate the help! Hey Tired: I have a 315 (YEA!!!) and a Magellan SportTrak Map... I have also used a Meridian Platinum... The biggest advantage of both the Sport and Plat over the 315 is maps... these are a true help navigating around... especially in urban and suburban areas -- no topos yet as someone has already mentioned. The downside is price of course. I have seen magellans on special at one branch of Best Buy... you might wanna check that out. The screen on the plat is larger than on the sport and it has a much larger memory. As far as function, most of the modern units offer very similar performance. Some eat batteries a little faster than others. Some have slightly different ways to display the same information... If you are going for a mid-range handheld, shop around for the best price and make sure extras like map software and cables are easily avaiable in your area. DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  12. quote:Originally posted by binthair:Lots of easy caches in the Ottawa area. Suggest you try Vroom, Walk The Line, Cars, Hill Mill Ruin, The Matrix, Games, Smokey Horntail, etc. There's plenty of others. Cheers! binthair Thanks for the tips Binthair, Only got to one of the ottawa area caches... boy, there are hundreds... but I did get an idea for a new cache in the Toronto area... ripping off a Zartimus concept. DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  13. Hi man: how are you? Nice idea. Look at this: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=39576 Certainly would be an interesting option. Give it a try... I'd like to be first to find it!!! Later DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  14. Money... I do it for the loose change you sometimes find around the cache area. That and the fame and glory... oh, and the wonderful surprises people stash in tupperware containers and ammo boxes... yummy! "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  15. quote:Originally posted by Hespeler Fuel Company:Just relized that the grammer in the last message was horrible. Sorry folks, it has been a very long day. Hopefully you will get my meaning I think there is a message in there somewhere??? know probleme! Good point about definition of southern ontario... the province goes a long way north... From an Ontario tourist sort of perspective, Central Ontario starts around Barrie, ergo, the area south of that is Southern Ontario and indeed does include KW (lot's there and a very active community of cachers) Toronto ('nuff said) and the Pickering to Oshawa region (very many active cachers). Windsor and area can't really be considered as the whole of southern ontario now can it... only a small part of it... but it obviously needs some more caches planted! DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  16. Thanks Binthair: I'll let you know how things turn out. Happy Caching DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  17. Going to be in Ottawa with a little free time on Saturday afternoon -- coming into town on 417 -- and would appreciate some help identifying a couple of relatively simple caches to try for... something that's not hidden under a half meter of snow and something not hidden in a crack in a wall someplace seedy (dadgum... those downtown Toronto caches!) Anyhow, what do you think? DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  18. BC Guy: Three caches in Southern Ontario... are you nuts!!! Not entirely sure how you define Southern Ontario, but check out the cacheMap... I know BC is rabid, but pleeeeeezzzz. http://www.geocaching.com/map/canada.asp DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
  19. In case you were wondering... http://www.geocaching.com/map/canada.asp Neat way to find out what's around... of course you can always enter the Postal Code and work from there.... let's see: H0H 0H0 isn't it? DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"

    Ammo Cans

The KW Surplus store on Victoria Street, has a limited supply of ammo cans... two sizes... which retail for $7.95 and $12.49. http://www.kwsurplus.com/ The Russian T-54 tanks out front is a dead giveaway... it's already logged in Tanks for the memories! DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"

  23. quote:Originally posted by mrcpu:Would you like a Canadian Geocaching Site? I think the site functions well now without breaking it out into Canada / USA whatever. When I do a serach for local site, US ones come up too which is excellent. I would not want to do a search in a different site... as it is I guess, it promotes cross-border caching. Also you'd have the issue with virtuals and locationless being unavailable to all (I know some of you would welcome that!!! ) However, I's like to see the Canada Forum split into smaller regions... Let's try to get everyone who's interested working on the same project... feel that would yeild better results. I am home form work sick and feel lousy but I will search for a link to the other group doing this and post it to you later DD "Either that wallpaper goes or I do!"
