    caches

This morning I voted for regular caches. But I must say I really like the idea of the project caches depending on what it is. The Cdn geoquilt really captured the interest of our entire family - especially since the Edmonton one was a very hard find. 2. Motorola announced yesterday a global positioning system chip it says is the first GPS satellite sensor small enough and hence cheap enough for practical use in consumer-electronics devices such as cell phones and notebook computers. The Instant GPS chip will give users of such devices the ability to tap into a satellite system and pinpoint their geographic location. Measuring only 49 square millimeters, or less than half the area of a Pentium 4 processor, the chip will sell for roughly $10 in volume quantities, said Tim McCarthy, business director for GPS at Motorola's Automotive Group's Telematics Division. That should let device makers add GPS for about a quarter of the cost of current multiple chipsets, which run about $40. 3. I'll put in my $0.02 -- www.gpscentral.ca (the orginal suggestion) I've ordered my gps (legend) and mapsource through them. They were very competitive in pricing, quick to ship and customer friendly. I ordered on a Tuesday night and had it in Edmonton on Thursday am. I was visiting Calgary this weekend and stopped by their offices (they had started from a home office and have graduated to small business office). I found them to be as friendly in person as via email. Bought a geocaching cap & t-shirt while I was there (birthday presents). 5. DxChallenge, thanks for the effort you have been doing. We were very happy when we saw our square in the batch that Cliffy brought you. Retrieving squares from the Edmonton cache (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=24168) was quite the challenge. Good luck with the paperwork, packing up and moving. Nothing like a move for sorting and junking. We look forward to pictures of the finished product (and maybe seeing it in person someday). 7. Wow! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. What a great way to personalize one's GPS. "Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense." (Gertrude Stein)

  10. Boreal Jeff, The decimal readings I provided convert to: N 43º 49.365 W 79º 29.5692 -- which are close to Cliffy's. Peter
  11. From Mapquest: "We have received requests from users who would like to type in an address and view the latitude/longitude coordinate. Due to contractual limitations, we are only able to display latitude/longitude coordinates provided by users" I imagine that Mapblast has a similar issue. Using MS Streets & Trips 2002, I located the address and then used the location sensor (under Tools) to place over the address stickpin. For that address in Concord, I got a reading of: N 43.82275 W 79.49282 I would think that Mappoint should have a similar tool. It's not exact but pretty close. Peter
  12. Will see what we can do.....
  13. A little over a week ago, we picked up one (Honda 600) -- it's currently visiting the Wednesday night Motorcycle gatherings @ Soda Jerks in St. Albert, Ab. Early August, it takes the cross country trip to be dropped off in the Montreal area. It will have a good head start.
  14. A quick look on the internet shows: Valcartier Village and an address of: 1860, boulevard Valcartier, Valcartier (Québec) G0A 4S0 Tel. (418) 844-2200 Toll free : 1 888 3 VILLAGE Fax (418) 844-1239 With that information, MS Streets & Trips show an reading of 46.93148, -71.46791 First time to do this -- So Rob, feel free to double check this. Peter
  15. This was our first weekend geocaching. Managed to locate 2 in the Edmonton area. The 2nd one we went to had 3 logged finds yesterday. So lots of activity out here. Weather out here has been great (hot) for the last week. Weather changing since last night -- maybe much needed rain. My vote is that it's a busy time of the year. End of school, activities, weddings, etc.
