  1. Well I've been using the PN-20 for a few days now. So far so good. Had some issues with Topo 7 but figured them out. Still getting used to the differences between my old Legend Cx and the PN-20. It was a refurbished unit from TigerGPS and it looked new. Not a mark on it. The only ways to tell it was a refurb, were the price and a little sticker on the side that said "Demo Unit Property of Delorme". Everything in the package looked brand new also.
  2. When I import a gpx file into Topo USA 7.0 it doesn't seem to import all of them. Here is what I am doing. I created a pocked queary for 500 caches within 100 miles of a zip code. I use the cache name and not the ID number. I import the file to Topo USA 7.0 and it is only showing 45 caches. What am I doing wrong.
  3. My TomTom allows me to download a "quickgpsgix" file. This file contains the location for the satellites for the next 7 days which in turn aquires satellites more quickly. I was just wondering if this was the same type of thing. Thanks for all the helpful replies!
  4. That can't be the norm. I hope it's not anyway. I haven't read reports about this particular problem. Guess I'll find out soon enough though.
  5. Well I'm used to the small screen of the Legend Cx anyway. I'll probably kick myself for not waiting for the PN-40 but for $199 I couldn't pass up the PN-20. I'm a little confused about the slow aquisition time. This is solved once the almanac is downloaded? This can be done via the computer? I like the DeLorme boards. I registered as soon as I went there after you pointed it out. They look like they will be a huge help. The PN-20 will be here tomorrow if delivery stays on schedule. I'll read through the manual online tonight. Also, do I need to use a program like GSAK with this? If it isn't a must, what are the benefits of using a program like GSAK? Do those of you using your PN-20 for paperless caching, cut out some of the description to keep the hint if it is cut out due to being over 800 characters?
  6. I also ordered from Tiger. Probably after reading a post you made on here. I'm hoping it performs as well as all the reviews I've read. I expect a learning curve from a Garmin Legend Cx to this but I think I'll enjoy the process.
  7. I can't reccomend it yet, but I ordered a Delorme Earthmate PN-20 today. It does paperless caching and has received really good reviews here and other GPS related sites. I paid $199 for a refurbed unit but you can get them new for $350 with a $50 rebate. Do some research and check it out.
  8. Well I did it. I ordered a refurbished DeLorme Earthmate PN-20 today. Should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. This is replacing my stolen Legend Cx. The boys are very excited to start caching again. I'll spend a few nights at work getting to know it and will do some caches next weekend hopefully. We are expecting to take it on vacation with us at the end of the month to Virginia to both hike Shenandoah NP and do some caching in the area. Wish me luck.
  9. I hope English isn't this individual's native language. At least I pray they are not FLYING airplanes! So let me see if I've got this...you are saying if someone does not speak perfect english, they should not be flying a plane?
  10. My mind is now made up. Delorme here I come. Garmin can keep their Oregons and Colorado and whatever other states they offer in the future.
  11. Ok cool. Thanks for info. I was concerned they may come with a marked screen or some other type of wear like an "ebay special". It's a significant savings, that's for sure.
  12. No issues with the refurbed unit? I see they still have them and I'm seriously considering taking the plunge away from Garmin.
  13. I just came across this unit in my search to replace my Legend Cx. I'd like to hear from owners who are using this for geocaching. I would only be using it for geocaching and hiking. What do you all think?
  14. I've been following this thread because I'm getting ready to replace my stolen Legend Cx. I think I'm going to have to rule out the Colorado until I see that yes column significantly higher. Garmin is beginning to remind me of Microsoft the way they release buggy software.
  15. This is a good point. I still haven't made up my mind though. All these bugs being reported have me a leary of the Colorado right now. I'm in no rush so I'll keep checking here and watching the prices. Almost $500 is alot of cash to drop on a toy, especially one that doesn't work right all of the time.
  16. So the difference between the 300 and the 400t is the topo maps. I've never used them anyway so it sounds like I may be better off saving the money and getting the 300? Have to admit I'm still a little concerned about the other posts here and the issues plaguing the Colorado series.
  17. I don't have the topo maps. I never had or used them in the Legend either. I have City Navigator V.7 but that's it. We never used topo maps for caching. Most if not all the caches we've done were very easy walks because I have small kids.
  18. So is the text input with the scroll wheel any more difficult than text input with a joystick like on the Legend Cx? Also, all of you Colorado owners....which one? The 300 or 400T?
  19. My car was broken into and they got my trusty Legend Cx. I'm looking to replace it. Although I haven't done much Geocaching lately, me and the boys would like to start again. I think one of the things that kept me from going out more, was printing everything up for a day of caching. I was thinking the new Colorado series with the built in paperless geocaching looked like an option. Then I have to decide between the 300 and the 400t. I'm looking to stay with Garmin. I've been reading here about the problems others have had. So I'm looking to hear from the people who actually own the Colorado 300 or 400t.
  20. I use my RAZR car charger to power my Legend Cx.
  21. Thanks for the help. I'm all updated now. Firewall does not seem to be blocking the updater but the updater seems to work after the manual update. We'll see what happens after the next update comes out. Mike
  22. I see under the help menu in Mapsource v6.5 there is a menu item "check for software update". I have both Trip and Waypoint Manager V2 and City Navigator North America V7 loaded in Mapsource. If I click on the "check for software update" it either shows "connecting to server" and never changes or shows "connecting to server", then shows downloading for less than a second and a window pops up saying there was an error communicating with Garmin Update Server, please retry update. If problem persists contact Garmin Tech Support. I don't even know if there are any updates needed. Anyone use this function? Mike
  23. The post can be read here. It's the 4th post down. Take a look. Mike
  24. I read on another post that the Explorist 600 has built in geocaching software which enables the user to paperless cache without a pda. This seems like a great feature. Why doesn't Garmin offer this feature? My wife would be happy if I didn't have to "steal" her PDA anymore. Of course if they do add this feature I'm sure it would only be on new units and not a software update for my Legend Cx.
  25. I've been using City Navigator v.7 for about 2 weeks now. I love it. I have found that it picks some pretty funky routes though. I'm still messing with the settings. The prompts are pretty easy to follow and the maps were very accurate with even very new streets. Mike
