  1. My logs are showing fine now. Last night they started out missing then after clicking on about my 6th cache, the logs started showing, even the ones that were blocked just moments before. Today they're up and running like normal. Just prior to the logs appearing as they are suppose to appear (last night), I got an error message when trying to view a hint. Instead of decrypting the hint, it gave some error code about $ sign something invalid. Which means it had something to do with the code or a script and that wasn't getting through the ISP. I know Thailand has blocks a lot of questionable content (xxx) but maybe they got over zealous when it comes to the content they're blocking. Ironically, I had just moved a few blocks away and we have a different service provider and they probably have different websites or scripts that are blocked. I will assume it's fixed.
  2. That's funny. You think I'm stupid enough to look at just the caches that haven't been found? (a reply isn't necessary. It's called sarcasm) How about the original post from the viewer? It's not there either. For the record, I've checked many, many caches in each country. It's ALL CACHES. Even a cache I logged yesterday morning will not show the logs. I even logged in on my wifes acct and experienced the same problem. Maybe it's my family and / or the network. I was thinking of going to another country for a visa run. I always check other cache logs quite frequently. Last time I checked would have been May or maybe early June. Now, all of a sudden I can't view any logs for potential caches. I was able to view Thailand cache logs up until around June 30th - July 2nd. I was able to view logs on the day I logged my find (July 5th). Now nothing. It all started when I logged that cache and tried to enter a favorite and couldn't then hours later I could issue a favorite but couldn't look at logs in other countries and now it includes local caches in Thailand. No cache logs whatsoever. Obviously it's just me. I was thinking it was something they started doing widespread on the website but I haven't seen anything. I guess I pissed someone off. It's not like my acct is voided. If they put restrictions on my acct I would like to think they would have notified me via e-mail, and I've yet to hear anything. I've used two different computers on the same network. Maybe I should go try another computer on a different network.
  3. When I go to view caches in other countries, I can't view logs. I've tried looking at caches in Cambodia, Hong Kong, USA. I'm currently in Thailand. I can view the cache page but when I scroll to the bottom, there are no logs. I see links to click on "View All Logs" and I get nothing. Any thoughts?
  4. Just for the record, I don't care if they use FB, however, I don't want it to be the first thing I see. Like I mentioned before, put it below the regular login. Keep Geocaching a geocaching website and the other links should be available but not the first option. People are losing touch with whom they are and why they're here. When someone starts a business, you have a plan. I understand businesses have to grow and adapt. But I don't believe they should lose focus of who they are and why they got into business. This is a geocaching website and they didn't get into business to become a social media website. Whatever social media BS they decide to adopt and add to their game plan, it shouldn't take precedence. When I go to log in, my first login choice shouldn't be sign in with your Facebook account, however, it SHOULD be my geocaching acct. As someone mentioned (xro), FB privacy is not that private. People give access to their contact lists and other stuff. I don't care for it. I don't care that the rest of the world does but leave me out of it. Trust me, I go through this stuff with my family (mom, brother, wife, amongst others) regarding invites and they all say they never sent an invite......but someone did and it all goes back to the apps and FB. I'm not trying to get the geocaching website to get rid of FB. relocate it on their webpage. All you FB users shouldn't feel threatened. Keep using it for all I care. Just don't force it upon me or give me the impression you're forcing it upon me. And for all you people chiming in, please keep your 2 cents to yourself. My original post is directed at the geocaching.com website. Unless you represent geocaching.com please refrain from making this personal. If you're pro FB, then go start your own FB thread. I promise not to respond.
  5. I like geocaching. I am not a Facebook user nor do I want it shoved down my throat. When I click on my link for login with geocaching.com, the "FIRST" thing I see on the webpage is a Logo for FACEBOOK (login with Facebook). Which begs the question, is this now a FACEBOOK website or are you people at geocaching.com just a bunch of suck-ups? How much kick back money $$$ are you getting for putting their logo up top? You've officially sold your soul to the devil and lost ALL integrity. May I suggust relocating the Facebook logo UNDER the login vs above the login??? Is that too much to ask? I honestly feel like you're promoting Facebook more than you're promoting Geocaching.com. In the event you decide not to relocate the Facebook logo, then is too much to ask that you change the website address to the following: www.facebookcomesfirst/geocachingcomeslast.com This could very well be my last premium membership. I will not go premium in the future if your website continues to promote Facebook first.
  6. Rather than going into my statistics page, I think it would be nice to sign up for a notification alert: "Uncached Days". The alert could send a message, "Hey, you have a blank spot on your 366 days of caching calender for tomorrow so go out and find a cache tomorrow." I think the alert should give a little bit of a warning vs letting me know that it's today. I would much rather know the day before vs today. Other options would be: give a notification for uncached days over the next 7 days give a notification for next (X) consecutive days; ie: 13 March thru 17 March. In this case, 5 days.
  7. I did this for several months while I had my GPSr in for repair and it was quite entertaining. It actually had a bit more to offer in terms of adventure. With a GPSr you know you're within a few meters (yards) and with google earth maps you know you're within about 30m. I looked at my history and I believe it was from 11 March 2009 - 13 June 2009 = 40 caches. 13 of those finds were in Thailand and 27 in California of which 26 were in Santa Cruz which has lots of trails / wilderness area. One particular cache (GCXJHT) the google image did absolutely nothing to help me out. I'm telling ya that if you haven't tried it, you should. Do it for 1 month. I had all sorts of terrain to deal with which made that much more interesting. Trying to locate caches in a city could be a little boring but going out into the jungles / forests / wilderness is exciting. Places where there are trails you have to notice every bend in a trail, or other little features to assure you are in the ballpark. And for the record, Google earth bounces the cache image all over the place so it's not as precise as some might think. Running the cursor over the image and looking at the posted coords could help a little but I didn't bother. This is something I would enjoy doing again from time to time. Not so worried if I break my GPSr agian. I think it's something that would be more fun to do with a companion vs going solo (which I did). Getting that someone else to go without their life support (GPSr) is like pulling teeth.
  8. Add me to the list. I'm a little bummed out. I just became a premium member this past week with the sole purpose of using the GPX files, pocket queries, caches along a route. I've ran about a dozen PQ's and only 1 showed up to my yahoo e-mail. I wasn't sure what to think. I noticed a warning at the bottom of the PQ screen: Known issues: Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) don't like *.loc or *.gpx files, and some email clients corrupt these files. It is recommended to zip them before sending. It has been reported that occasionally these emailed files are tagged as viruses by antivirus software. Since the files do not execute they should not be capable of delivering viruses. Zipping the files normally solves this problem. Did we mention you should probably zip your pocket queries? What are the chances that this has somethig to do with it? Pardon me if this comes across as a stupid question, as I mentioned, I'm a new premium member and I've only been caching for about 10 months. It may show my member since 2006 but I never started caching until this year. I'm still wet behind the ears. Still learning something every day about geocaching. Can't wait for PQ to start working the way it's suppose to, otherwise, I'm going to be an unhappy camper.
  9. In my short time caching, I've had the unfortunate experience of getting injured 2x. GCMAG0 - Bob's Bluegrass TB Hotel (archived) - Santa Cruz, CA. This is an old cemetary that is built on the edge of a hill filled with redwood trees. The cache is up the hill a ways and I visited this place about 2x or 3x. The last time I was there was in March or April 2008. It had just finished raining for several days and ground was muddy / slippery. I was climbing up the hill and navigating some old fallen redwood trees when I slipped and started falling. Much to my surprise, there was a tree branch sticking out from one of the redwoods. I grabbed ahold to stop my fall. In theory that was going to stop my fall and save me from getting hurt, however, reality set in and the waterlogged tree branch was so soggy that it broke apart when it tried to stop my 220 pound frame. Maybe the branch slowed down the fall but I still fell into a fallen redwood tree ribs first. OUCH!!! I'm sure I broke a rib. I didn't bother to go to the doc. I just lived with the pain for next 4 months. I had trouble sleeping, getting out of bed, breathing (deep) / laughing. Finally by the end of August all the pain was gone. And I never did find the cache. Doh!!! GC14FT5 -Dan's View - Pattaya, Thailand. This cache is up near a giant Buddha. There is a golf course on one side of the hill. The hill is not too high but the vegetation is very thick. Did I mention the vegetation was thick? It's very thick. What a climb. I only had to go 120 meters but I had to plan 5 - 10 meters at a time and even then I had to back track 2x. They have these vines here in Pattaya that have thorns on them. While trying to climb through several strands of vines that weaved their way from tree to tree, one of the vines I had pulled off to the side managed to free itself from my hand and hit me in the eye. My eye was open when it hit me in the eye. Sure I got something in my eye. I continued on and by the time I got home and tried washing out whatever was in there.... well that didn't work. I went to the hospital the next morning and they said that I have something lodged in the eye (cornea). I had to come back a day or two later (weekend) when the specialist was there. They still tried to use a needle to free it and that didn't work. I got lots of eye drops that didn't help too much. I was fine as long as my eyes were open but when I closed my eyes, thats when it hurt. I had a hard time sleeping. Luckily some of the eye drops were medicated to numb the eye. After a couple visits to the hospital and 5 days of having a hard time seeing out of my right eye, I was back to normal. Oh, when I got to the top of the hill and looked for the cache, it was gone. Doh!!!
  10. Let me jump on the bandwagon too. I doubt it would be very difficult to add another region Asia. Maybe it's just me but I thought this would be a no brainer. Do the right thing and create Asia (region).
  11. Greetings from Thailand. I'm in Pattaya (N12 56.180 - E100 53.530). Pattaya is @ 70 miles southeast of Bangkok. We have upwards of 60 caches in the surrounding area. You can try contacting me via my profile. Just click on any of the cache owners and contact them about caching the local territory. I'm always open for helping out. We have about 20 caches that are reachable via foot for the tourists and another 20 or so within 10km and then some that are further out. In Bangkok (N13 42.555 - E100 34.555) you can pull up about 80 or more caches. Most of the caches in Bangkok are micro size due to the city, however, you can pick and choose your caches to find only items for trade. In Bangkok area you can click on any of the owners profile and send them an e-mail. Several of the cache owners for Bangkok have also placed caches in Pattaya. Most cache owners are willing to help out in one way or another. Oh, FYI: 33 Thai Baht = $1 US (+/- 1 Baht). Aside from Pattaya and Bangkok, you might want to go down to Krabi for additional caches. This is the next largest area. When I say Krabi, I mean Krabi, Ko Phi Phi Lay & Don, Koh Lanta, Phuket. Try pulling up (N8 00.861 - E98 50.118). I only know 1 cache owner from this area and he is from Pattaya. Again, try e-mailing a cache owner and try to schedule a meet and greet. Recently Koh Samui has had several caches placed on that island and surrounding islands... maybe about 10. Don't know any of the people from that area but try sending the cache owner an e-mail for additional info. Sorry I don't have the coordinates off the top of my head. Then there are a few stray caches throughout the country. I went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia a couple weeks ago and did a few caches in the day I was there. I liked the caches. Bring a camera. I did the Nanas Forest cache, National Monument, and Lake Gardens. I went by the virtual cache late at night and got some terrific pics but I was there very late and wasn't able to complete the requirements for the virtual cache. I understand that the cache with the big Ferris Wheel no longer has a Ferris Wheel (didn't go) and can't remember the name but something about Eyes On Malaysia. Make sure you use a taxi with a meter; any taxi that quotes a fare without a meter is going to charge you 2x - 7x what it should normally cost. I spoke to a travel agent while in town and he said there is no reason why any taxi should cost you more than 10 ringit within the city limits, yet, taxi drivers will often quote me (tourist) 20 ringit or more to go 4km. I ended up walking most of my way around KL. I was too tired to walk to Stonehenge cache although it was only .8km from the bus station and I've since given up on finding a reputable taxi driver. And after my battles with the less than helpful taxi's, I'm still looking forward to going back to KL. One other note, KL city limits are about 1 hour bus ride from the airport. The bus is about 8 or 9 ringit depending on where you buy your ticket. 3 Ringit = $1 US (or thereabouts). Jay aka: Jaykaow
