  1. This was a mile from my house and right near several popular caches. So sad. I'm glad the ice is melting this week.
  2. I hope some new ones get approved locally tomorrow morning. Then I can just follow Floopy's tracks in the snow right to them.
  3. Well done TeamHopewell. Couldn't have happenned to a nicer guy. I am very happy to have been there to share the celebration.
  4. Mo, I agree with all but the last line. I used to think people who spent all their time caching must not have any life. It occured to me on a 7-hour hike today that people who spend their time working instead of being outdoors are the ones missing out on life. That said, of course you are right that $30 a year for anyone who owns a GPS and a computer is really not asking a lot.
  5. If by "dilly dally and hit other caches" you mean "hike seven miles and visit 12 caches" then the actual time turns out to be more like seven hours (and seven miles). 1. Find BrianSnat's Ammo Can #3 2. Rocky Nook 3. Rainy Day Women (yes, it was raining when we got there) 4. Stony Mountain Cache 5. Boulder Stash 6. #10762: Ramapo Reservation cache 7. gerbiL cacHe (TeamHopewell's 100th) 8. Warm Furry Kittens 9. Rocky Mountain Rocks 10. Return to Rocky Mountain 11. Triple Tree 12. A River Runs To It Wow that was a hard hike. Especially the bushwack from gerbiL to Kittens, then to the two Rock Mountain ones. Boy was I glad to get back on a trail! Congrats to TeamHopewell on your 1000th. The champagne at the summit was great. Thanks to everyone else for making this such a fun trip (Jan and the Man, your champaign in the parking lot was great too, though by then I had lost most sensation in my body).
  6. Anyone have an estimate on how long this hike is likely to take? Ballpark? I'd love to come, but might have to split off around noon.
  7. Well done, Turtle Boy! I'm contiously impressed by how quickly you zero in on the hiding spot and yesterday was no exception. Glad I could be there to share your 300th.
  8. And at least half on the way to work! Well done, Floopy!
  9. Local cachers should certainly do that so the guy understands that residents (read, voters) particpate, not just "outisders." Just keep the letters friendly. If the caches do get disabled because of the Mayor, it should be noted on the cache pages. Locals should know who their friends are come re-election time.
  10. Just watch out for coyotes in Central Park.
  11. That reminds me - I still have to find The Giant's Stairs. Who's with me?
  12. Got two log book coins and two time tracking coins, but I also got this unexpected gem: It is a thank you gift for donating to the NNJC collection for Helmut Meuller's daughters. (NNJC is the Northern New Jersey Cachers) NNJC
  13. I do the opposite - if Teddy is looking though a cache and it's full of junk, I slip in something from my pack for him to find. It keeps him motivated on the trail.
  14. I've done the opposite. Found a tick-bite tool I wanted but didn't have anything to trade so I left $5 (there was a $3.99 sticker on it).
  15. That's only 100 per Straat, but it's still impressive. Glad I was there to share the milestone, even if I had no idea at the time.
  16. My parents gave me mine when I was just a few minutes old.
  17. It's a DNF, but you raise a good point that I used to wonder about too - whether or not a DNF indicates to people that it might be missing. If you're worried about that, include the info in your DNF log (eg. "I only had 10 minutes to look so it's probably there, but I didn't find it")
  18. Congrats to both Quoddy and the real Quoddy. I am sorry I couldn't make it down there to celebrate with you both. My car died last night a few towns away from home and I couldn't find anyone willing to drive down there this morning. Glad I've been there to share a few finds with you along the way.

  20. I'm trying to juggle a few things so I can join you. Looks like a lovely hike.
  21. I'm in. The 19th is great because I'm off on the 20th, but other dates work too.
