  1. If the forum search feature was up and running I could provide a Markwell... Basically someone downloaded a list of baby names and used those.
  2. I have to agree. How does me finding 100 local McDonald's in my area relate to geocaching?
  3. Add this to a very long list of travel bugs and geocoins that go missing. I've given up on travel bugs for this reason.
  4. Caches on top of a highrise building would be easy, if publicly assessable, such as on a viewing platform. Any cache that requires trespassing would either not get approved or quickly earn an SBA. Underwater caches already exist. Some require SCUBA equipment, hiring one of the deep sea explorers, or just holding your breath. First Class Restraunt? That would be commerical in nature. You would required to buy something to be able to log it. Hench it would not get approved. Besides, tables get moved all the time. Airport runways? Ahh, that is an offlimit area that would get you a visit from Homeland Security. Matter of fact, a cache got into some legal issues when he found a cache on public property NEAR a runway. Under a bench in a court room? Well, your GPSr wouldn't work indoors. Plus, do you really want to pull something out from under a bench and make the Judge and LEOs nervous?
  5. How can it be deleted as long as it is still viewable? And you won't tell us how one can use the archiving function for abuse, will you? I think the abuse he is referring to is the fact you can log a smiley on a archived cache.
  6. I would avoid it for many reasons. 1. Have you ever torched or cut a hole in a tank like this before? There are some safety concerns here. 2. Water tight? 3. How you going to keep people from climbing in? 4. How are you going to keep people from tossing stuff out of easy reach?
  7. The fine folks at Groundspeak HQ can help you. If you give them the PQ number and the date and time the PQ ran and Elias and crew can check the logs to see what actually happened to the message. This will help you track down where in the ether it is getting lost or eaten.
  8. Basically he is disabling the RSS feeds of the forums to lessen the load on the forum server(s)
  9. I was very surprised when I looked at my stats. Like Lep, this brought back a ton of good memories.... I'll steal one of Lep's saying, BWGWF... 10. This has always bothered me that people log a ton of travel bugs and coins just because they "saw" it. Heck, half of the time they never actually looked at the tag to get the numbers. Whatta say we create more rules, and one being that you actually have to move the bug to score the log/icon. Yes, that was heavy sarcasm laced with some truth. How about creating a log type that says "Seen it" That is more along the line of the actual action.
  11. Good ole Pennsylvania, home of the many blue laws... For the most part we can not hunt on Sundays...
  12. I was considering doing the Cottonwood-Marble Canyon loop. From what I was reading a normal car can make it to a parking area. Is that true? I was only planning on logging a virt if I was near one in the park. The main focus of this trip is backpacking... Thanks for any info...
  13. I am considering going to Death Valley to do some backpacking and some caching in mid December. Has anyone done this, or can point me in the direction of some good information? I am planning on flying into Vegas and renting a very cheap car to drive out. I only have 3-3.5 days available at the park.
  14. All be darn, I clicked on the wrong forum...

  16. Pechin's! Granted, this place has lost its luster since they upgraded locations... All joking aside, I've heard that Fabrizi's's right outside of Uniontown is very good.
  17. Dang it Danny, I can't make it to this date. Maybe next time!
  18. Keep an eye out for events in your area. Once you see an event post a message on the event cache page asking for a ride. You'll probably have good luck doing that.
  19. I am sure there are many people that would be glad to help... But your message lacks some details. Are you using the Java applet that is linked off the forums page or a another IRC client? Are you getting any error messages on your computer or your IRC client when connecting? Did you change your firewall settings, security settings in your web browser, etc...
  20. Not seeing a post from a cache reviewer doesn't mean nothing is happening. They often send emails to the cache owner giving them a nudge and a chance to correct what is wrong...
  21. Just remember the TOS for the information you got via the PQ...
  22. Sounds like the Zotob worm.... Scan for it here...
  23. Check out caches in western Maryland by tmp and caches in Pennsylvania by Quest Master. Also, caches in and around West Virginia by Accident_Prone_Hiker.
  24. Downtown is pretty safe. I never have any fear of walking around in the evenings or on weekends. There are caches within easy walking distance... Pittsburgh as an "alright" public transit system that will enable you to go to more cache dense areas. For bus and T schedules checkout www.ridegold.com Pittsburgh does have some Taxi's. You will see them around the Hilton, but they are pretty hard to find elsewere. I highly recommend that you check out some of the cultural offerings the city has. One of my favorite places is the Heinz Regional History Center.
