  1. By tradition, and possibly fact, what metal were the aforesaid cannon made from?
  2. I've not been a regular cacher for some years now. I was in Menorca for a few weeks last autumn and went to look at an old quarry with my brother in law. I was looking at the info board at the entrance to the quarry when I saw a a suspicious looking pile of stones behind it, in the undergrowth. BINGO TNLNSLTFTC!!
  3. I dingeth thee - the other was the Chamberlains Men - changed names on the accession! Over to thee!!
  4. I've checked out the original thread started in 2006 and the rules are: Rule 1 - No googling! Rule 2 - Try and keep your question at the level someone in a pub quiz might be able to answer... (Forgetting that Rule 2 is, IMHO broken at times) I can see no reference to not being allowed to ask your sister!! I have your PM and you are correct so should you feel like posting it before anyone else does......
  5. Thou deserveth not the DING, for I feel th'art not well versed in this matter!
  6. Cheers Marty! (When I was a lad I am sure the blocks of flats on Jordanthorp estate nr Sheffield were nickenamed after these three!!) Sticking with the Bard, what was the name of the acting company he belonged to for most of his career? (It actually had two similar names, either being sufficient for the DING) (typo )
  7. My Dad was, and my brother is, staunch Owls and I am sure it was one of the Sheffield clubs. I am going for the Blades, Sheffield United in 1892 (date a guess!). ddd PS I saw the first match under lights at Saltergate (the last league ground to install lights!), Chesterfield played Wednesday!
  8. That's a huge, cinemascopic all singing, all dancing Irving Berlin of a DING DONG to you!!
  9. Sticking with it - "I'm dreaming of a white christmas, just like the ones I used to know!" Everlasting melody and words it would seem - thanks to Bing - BUT, Who wrote it?
  10. AS soon as I saw your reply tagged in the forum index I said to myself, "He's a chef, he's got it!" ......and so you have, a sweet succulent DING to you!
  11. Cheers H, OK, what Christmas food is made from Marsh Whorts (other spellings of Whorts may be available!)?
  12. Did it specify a number - I seem to remember just that they came from the East ?
  13. I was looking for "with long hair" so your reply was a valid variation as I asked and so a great big hirsute DING to you!!
  14. That's a DING dong merrily on high for you :-) Let me try to stick with the theme. What is the simple etymology of the name "comet"? Basically looking for a three word phrase where the longest word has 4 letters (or a variation on it!)
  15. Thanks for the Ding. What's the technical name for this event, when an asteroid/comet/similar reaches its closest point to the sun? And What is the name for the opposite, when it is at its furthest from the Sun? The former is perihelion - so I am guessing the latter is something like apihelion? (Which my spellchecker did not like, so I will drop the "I" and say) aphelion (which it did!!)
  16. I only met John Steed the once I am afraid, at an event high on a hill called Werneth Low I think, but we emailed each other on many occasions. As has been said he was a gentleman and memory of him will be dear to many of the early UK cachers. My thought with his family and close friends.
  17. This is one I took way back in 2003 on the way to my first event, where I met cachers such as Teasel, Chris and Maria, Lost in Space, The Hornet and Tim & June. The cache, deep in Epping Forest is called Lost Pond. The reason is on the cache page.
  18. Andy - I far preferred this one!. ddd!
