Da Vinci Code - Rosslyn
Rosslyn Chapel, that would be it - A secretive handshake of a DING to SC!!
-
This sounds very masonic to me, so I guess it would be one of those orders - perhaps Knights Templar
Perhaps, I couldn't possibly say - but where?
-
A very quick DING to DDD.
Cheers MartyB,
The pillars of the apprentice, journeyman and master are where?
-
In the mammalian kidney.
-
clothes hoers
That has got to be the best typo I have seen in ages and conjures up great images
-
Thanks!
Staying with square-rigged ships, for the next ding, give the name of any sail flown above the topgallant.
The "Jolly Roger"!!
-
I think he was the one condemned to push a giant rock ball up a hill for all eternity.
That's the bloke Marty and a big boulder of a ding to you!!

Sticking in ancient Greece, how was Sisyphus punished for being a crafty so and so?
-
Ok - moving away from Olympics, but staying with a Greek theme: Today is Pi Day (in American mm.dd.yy format) - i.e. 3.14
In the Greek Alphabet pi is the 16th letter. Which letters fall either side of it?
Forty years ago, a geography teacher at school tried to teach us the Greek alphabet (can't remember why...).
Scratching at the memory banks I'll go for Omicron and Psi
Sharpeset has twanged my memory chords ( from rather longer than 40 yrs ago I fear) and my Housemaster - Michael Bishop - classic teacher extraordinary - I rather think Sharpeset is half way there and I will go for Omicron ("O") and Rho ("R") no "Q" in the Greek alphabet!

From: here!
"The seashore (which is synonymous with foreshore) is the area between the mean high water mark and the mean low water mark.
Below the high water mark, i.e. the seashore and the seabed, generally belongs to the Crown."

Ding! (misquote)

Right, sticking with quotes, a 20th century Hollywood humourist once said:
"I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members."
Who was it?

Next question, and on a slight variation to the theme, words often thought to be by Shakespeare, but they're not. Who are they by?
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach.
I think they are the opening lines of one of the "Sonnets to the Portuguese" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning..

Well, I know that there's an ancient stone somewhere in Greece known as the omphalos which the ancients used to believe was the navel of the world. So I'll make the leap to the idea that omphalos means navel, and suggest that omphalophobia is the fear of navels.
Well, the voices were right this time, that's a huge beer belly laugh of a DING for you my friend
-
For those who suffer from the fear, a tiny little ding
In the Comrades Club Friday Night Quiz we always have a phobia or two - so here's another!
What is Omphalophobia?
-
What is Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia The fear of?

I believe he was born in Downend in Bristol ( I went a post christening party at a cricket club he was involved in). If he did mot stray far from home, it could be Gloucestershire.
That's the one Kidder, over to you!!
-
Its back to the pavilion for that question - over to you dodgydaved.
To enlighten those who didn't know about the West Indies v Zimababwe under 19 match settled by this dismissal, it is quite legal for the bowler to run out the non striking batsmen but it is considered polite to first warn the batsmen that he would be run out if the opportunity arose again.
If no warning is given and the dismissal occurs it is known as a "Mankad" after the Indian bowler who was the first to run out a non striking batsmen without giving the warning.
Sticking with cricket then, what county did Dr W G Grace play for?
-
You beat me to it @dodgydaved!
I must admit YY I only knew because of this report on BBC sport yesterday!
-
R.A.F. = Flight Lieutenant and R.N. = Lieutenant
Well you're no "Stupid boy" , carry on soldier.
Thank you - not too difficult for an ex airman!
A change of subject now to sport and cricket in particular.
It is perfectly legal but apparently very lacking in etiquette, so what is a "Mankad" dismissal?
Bowler stumping a batsman for leaving his ground during/at end of bowler's run up.?

I have been having a sort out and came across 3 Tim and June Bears and was wondering if there are collectors out there still trying to top up their numbers or fill in any gaps?
I have the following:
Number 31 of 100 MK4 complete with it's blank Adoption Certificate.
Mk3 with Window Sticker in original sealed bag
and the best of the bunch the first ever T & J Bear released in Celebration of their 100th cache find in April 2002 with the Certificate of Authenticity.
I won the bids on these on an Ebay Charity Auction and am considering doing the same - Auctioning them on Ebay with 50% of the funds going to Geolympix and 50% to Macmillan Nurses.
If you are not aware of these bears please visit here - http://www.geocaching-bears.co.uk
I have 2 MK3's, a Mk4 a Mk6 and an unlabelled one (foreigner?) and they aren't going anywhere!! :)

Thanks Boggin''s Dad.
Which company, originally known as "Seikikōgaku kenkyūsho", is now known by the Anglicised version of the name of one of its early products?
Looks as if it ought to be be SEIKO

Just a quick additional tip if not mentioned already.......
Dont forget to look at the windows of boats too. There are at least a few of us on the Grand Union whos boats are discoverable (trackables) and I'm sure there are others around too.
It never occured to me. I'll remember that for next time. Thanks
It's that time again when we are again looking at doing more canal caching about May/June.
We've been seeing all the flooding on the news and were wondering how it is affecting the canals. Is there a site we can access to get information on canal condition? We had in mind doing the Warickshire ring.

This sort of antediluvian attitude reminds me of the days when one of the arguments voiced against virts and webcam caches was that it was too easy a way to get a "smiley". Why should it not be both easy and hard to get a smiley; it recognises an achievement no matter if it is a 1/1 or 5/5. At a very simple level an advanced calculation using differential calculus done by a first wrangler at Oxbridge is just as correct as a simple number bond done by a primary school pupil. Both are achievements worthy of recognition.
