  1. The 528ft rule is fine for open locations, but IMHO irrelevant in many urban locations. I once had a cache in my front garden, it was there for about 8 years I think. My son wants to replace it with a cache of his own - an ammo box. However there is now a micro 459ft away. But this is across peoples houses and gardens! to walk to it is well over 528ft.

Is straight line distance appropriate in urban conditions - discuss. (Rider: the guideline [rule] was I believe originated not so much for density reasons, but to ensure that a cacher could be certain which cache they had found as, many years ago, GPSr's reputedly only had an accuracy of 30ft +/-)

  2. Thanks for the ding. Personally, I love some of the more unusual collective nouns, particularly those that follow stereotypes such as a "Lie" of politicians, a "Squabble" of seagulls and a "Shower" of meteorologists. So, to continue the theme, for the ding give a collective noun that applies to whales and dolphins?

    Pod?

(How about a wunch of bankers?)

  3. When you see a car on the roads that's from another country, it's supposed to have a white oval shaped badge with a specific letter/two/three letters on it.

My question is: - if you saw a car with a badge showing the letters 'KN', which country would it be from?

This tweaked my interest so I googled it and was gobsmacked.  Mind as the footnote (head note) on Wikipedia said :

"Note: an asterisk (*) indicates that this code is unofficial (does not appear in the UN list of distinguishing codes)."

  4. I've nothing to add at this stage. I just wanted to check if I'd been banned or blocked from these forums for mentioning- anything. Seems OK. Cheers. Happy caching ?

For what it is worth Paul it seemed you were making a genuine and positive suggestion to mediate the discussion/dispute and I felt using your post to lock the thread ill-judged & linking it in to Godwin's Law quite unnecessarily offensive.

Had the invocation of Godwin's law not taken place in the first place the thread wouldn't have been locked.

I felt there was no comparison to the actions of a certain dictator - more a reflection on the "findings" of experts.

  6. I'm glad this has come about. The reviewer team in the UK with a few minor exceptions have lost touch with how the game is played nowadays. Many have been reviewers for years and years sometimes a decade. Many of them don't even go out caching anymore. Why are the people making decisions about geocaching in the UK, when they have no idea what is going on out there?

I am not sure that any of the current reviewing team have been in place for more than 8 years........almost exactly
