  1. Sorry, As Far as I have seen, it is just used for NMEA communications.
  2. no matter what, or how severe, please do not pull the cats teet!
  3. i believe it does have the sirf 3 chipset, (the ifinder 'c' series), but not positive on that.
  4. hmmm, seems the kid has a hard enough time, picking on him isn't really a cool option.
  5. Personally I would rather have have copyright protection limit me to 5 sd cards, rather than 2 units... If I ever sold the ifinder unit i would not have to give up one of my licenced cards, i would just use it in another lowrance unit.
  6. i had the same problem with my zire 71 and the digitizer. i took a corner of a piece of paper and ran it between the screen and where the case touch, and it pulled out some small sand. after that it works great. this was suggested to try on palms iwth digitizer problems on the palm site faq.... good luck
  7. might be worth the try tho... i know you can switch between maps, and normally the lowrance maps do not have the at5 extension, so it may be looking for an lcm as a standard.
  8. I dunno, but maybe you have to look at the list of maps and tell it to use that one... i forget where it was on mine but you chose betwen the base map or add in maps
  9. chevy unless it's a van, diet coke, and lowrance..... but forgetting all product qualities aside i would consider whats the best for your area, wioth software. I am a big lowrance fan... and i do a lot of foshing and tinkering around with electronics. The crowd seems to goto the garmin side mostly, maybe they are easier to use, or more easily available. I would love to try out a magellan for a bit, or a different garmin. I dunno about how good the idea is, but the rinos are combined radio gps.... and it seems like a cool getup
  10. give lowrance ifinders a look... you will not believe the value for the dollar
  11. pure and simple guys, it's a garage, and if the seller is selling a used or open gps, its not now in the manufacturers eye "new" it could be as good as new, new in box, never been used, flawless, not a scratch on it and i would have to honestly say if it is 2 weeks old, it still has lost about 35% of its value minimum. and accessories was mostly lose prob'ly 75% of the value.
  12. I think if you can find a better deal, it would help a potential buyer (and maybe a few others) by pointing out a deal... if the buyer doesn't like it, well so be it. I buy electronics all the time for people, and i try to look at everything. If I knew nothing about GPSrs and had to buy one for the first time.... I would be shopping local and buying from a knowledgable sales person that i could run back too if i had any difficulties... otherwise its a gamble that may pay off. I think it also hurts the Groundspeak forum to allow people to get away with rip off prices, and it seems there is a lot of respect for this and I find it a big plus when someone says "clearance sale at..." And as for lee rimar... i respect him very much as I learned a lot from his lowrance posting..... nose and all.
  13. I have the h2o here and love it.... 512 meg card (20 bucks) is definitly good, i have a lot of ontario and a few states and it works well wit plenty of room. I typically use it for fishing, and driving directions, but not for caching, so i can't tell ya much there. My friend bought an expedition 'c' and i loved the screen, seemed to have better detail. As a plus you could view jpeg pictures on it as well. I always thought the compass was kind of redundant... but the barometer is kinda neat as it tries to predict weather happenings, which would be useful out on the water. Many people have said it, but get the screen protector on it as soon as possible... either unit. Also, the topos maps i am very satisfied with... using common sense with a gps will help with a lot of problems. DEFINITLY rechargeable batteries are the way to go (i rotate three pairs). If you use a 512 meg or bigger sd card you should only have to register that card unless you travel extensively... both are great units, and i think if i had a choice now i would go with the expedition 'c'.
  14. i'm really hoping garmins next gps will have a firmware that is thoroughly tested, instead of counting on their customers to be guinnea pigs... Not all customers have access or knowledge of this site
  15. thanks, it's great to see a lowrance group shape up. I just gave it a quick glance but i will be signing up shortly, and letting the guys i fish with know about it thanks again
  16. the reasons i bought lowrance h2o, i never seen many complaints about the hardware at all, usually more about the mapping software. The lowrance distributor down here is one of the smartest fishermen i know... and if he can count on lowrance on his boat for winning lots of tournaments, i have more confidence in the product. Mine has taken a beating, and keeps on going, and i am really happy with topo canada. I have no experience with the colour screens, but i amhappy with the monochrome. good luck
  17. i just position my cursor to the lat/long hit the enter and add waypoint by cursor... (zooming in and out helps alot for cursor). And I believe I can jut hit enter and there is an option to enter waypoints numerically. If you have access to a computer I thing lowrance has a waypoint manager under their software downloads for free. There are also many programs that can help you enter coordinates as waypoints, but i just stick with the lowrance options until I gain more experience. Good Luck and have fun
  18. palm zire 31 had a package that included a gps... which confuses me and it would hook up through the mini usb post (yes I do know its a slave port blah blah blah) and I have seen one other company use this port as a serial port (can't remember who)... I think there was even a european company that made one, and they were named good year, or michelin, or uniruyal or some kind of tire company. I have a zire 31 myself and my eyes can't handle the screen in the daylight, but there are people who use it for paperless caching as well. good luck and let us know how it goes
  19. I would get one with a lanyard, and clip it to your pants
  20. another question, what type of system and os, and memory are you running?
  21. i'm still loading 977mb of mapcreate 6.3 on my 1gb kingston sd card. its been over 40 hours and counting! east of the dakota! it is still calculating the size! i'm temted to try a 2gb so i can squeeze all of america and some mp3s. i have the iway 100m and the ifinder m&m(map and music. have yet to try either one. i hope they are both interchangeble! any thoughts, comments, suggestions? i believe they are interchangable, if i were to do a big map on my card, i would turn off all the services on my computer that i could, make sure you have no spyware or viruses, and the more memory the and the faaster the processor the better I did a map of 256 meg on my old p4 1.7ghz, 512meg of sdram, and it took about 10-12 minutes, i am running xp pro, with usb 1.1ports and i think i had 14-16 processes running
  22. I dropped Symantec and all Norton Utility Products as a result. i bet your system runs a lot quicker now!
  23. 1300 mah isn't very much compared to nimh 2500 or more rating....
  24. I believe the map and music is greyscale, and the expedition c is colour and 16 channel
