  1. Won't be going to Texas... I traveled 2 hours and stayed overnight for the NC Birkhead Bonfire though...
  2. quote:Originally posted by Hawk-eye: HIGHEST CACHE IN THE WORLD ... here in Bolivia ... I didn't know Brunswick County was over 13,000 feet... Seriously though, I've gotten a lot of support from the Mecklenburg county parks and rec about our sport. We just need to keep asking the State parks and work with them when placing caches. There are a few places in the system that a well placed cache won't cause any more impact than usual usage. I agree with Hawk-eye in that we need to comply with the rangers until we can work in their system to their satisfaction.

  4. Superstition: leave the batteries at home and you -will- have a dead GPS before the end of the trip. Try to be the first to find a cache and you -will- meet somebody else also trying to be the first. Forget to mark you car and you -will- get lost on the way back. I had the fortune to be out of town this past weekend with my GPS. I marked the hotel parking lot before I went geocaching. Later on that day, I had a friend's wedding to attend. On the way back to the hotel, I got lost (kinda easy when there's a Target and a fast food chain on every corner). So I turned on the handy GPS and found my way back.
  5. Octopus Garden. First cache in NC, travelling cache in the area as well, and might I add, has been made into a very difficult multi-cache by AdventureTom. Plus, You're on a major road in town, there are plenty of nearby bars...

  7. I've used gaiters in the rain. Now, I wear my snowboarding pants so they cover the boots and do the same job. In these parts, the little buggers are called sandspurs. I use suede garden gloves to protect my fingers and get them off my laces. We also have softer, sticky burrs that I haven't figured out where they come from yet. They stick to anything, so I end up wiping them off when I clean my boots.
  8. It actually sounds interesting. Very difficult, but not impossible. This is impossible...
  9. Good luck with talking to the rangers. If only your meet continued throughout the summer...
  10. Geo-Junk??? Geo-Stuff??? The only time I'm actually calliung it something is to explain it to somebody who doesn't know anything about geocaching. I usually end up calling it treasure because it's the easiest way to explain it.
  11. Is there any way to leave the coords up all weekend? I have a geocache planned for May 4. I've been wanting to join COK for a while, just haven't been able to find the time...
  12. Can't take the gps up there. Hummm. It'd be nice to confirm the trip by the altitude alone...

  14. I have a friend in Atlanta who is getting married over Easter. The wedding is in the evening, I have to spend the night anyway, so I'll be geocaching until I can check into the hotel, and then early Sunday morning before I drive back home. I'm going to print out the list of "must find" that was in a previous post. Now if I can only make it down for one of your meets...
  15. Spunds great! Definately post the link to the news article if it gets online...
  16. Yeah, I'd have to agree with the crumpled old cache pages in the floor of the car. I also have empty water bottles. But, to reduce myself as a target for break-in near an urban cache, I have very few valuables visible, and the work shoes in the trunk.

  18. Actually, I didn't know there was even an option until the discussions. I even had to hunt it down to join. Ever heard of shareware? This is one of my favorite sites, my favorite sports and can you believe all the great people I've met becuase of this board? $30 is well worth it.
  19. I tried to reply to the poll, but it kept returning me to the main forum page. HUmmm.... Natural blonde here. . . and please, no dumb blonde jokes about not being able to reply to the poll.
  20. I have added one avatar, and decided to change it, but I can't add new pictures after I've saved it the first time.
