  1. This might also be helpful: http://www.15ddv.me.uk/lq/lq.html
  2. Eh-oh! There will be four little roundish furry thing around there next - LOL Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po. Oh, somebody has already cashed in on them....
  3. Big congrats to the slim dashing SP! No, really well done.... Kristakerosene, we're sorry we missed you too, we had a four nights stay in Lerwick on the way up. Perhaps if postings were made on the Event page we might have seen them as that is on our watchlist so we would have seen any comments. Never mind, as before, next time! Cheers L&H. Oh, fantastic time? Better than that
  4. Oh sorry, what a shame we missed you. We don't frequent the forums much nowadays, and post even less so! Next time? We will be back... And if you come this far South let us know. Cheers, L&H.
  5. And don't forget Blockley Blower's near, err, Blockley. wrighty's are our favourites though.....
  6. G0EMS & 2E1DHP, Henry & Linda respectively. H was v active on 2m as G6NBR, before being one of the last to get his ticket at Portishead, also as a member of G4WET contest group and an ex comittee member of Worked All Britain (WAB) - probably where the interest geocaching came from, but we like to see it as wel as talk about it! QRT at the moment but we should try to get going again soon....
  7. Welcome to 'caching Kristakerosene, hope we can meet up even if you can't make the Event amd thanks for the offer of help, will get in touch closer to the time. We came up to Shetland 3 years ago and did all the available caches at the time but there are lots more now, of course. Can we be a wee bit cheeky? If you are thinking of putting a cache or two out how about Yell and Fetlar, both are crying out for a cache and neither currently has one..... All booked now except for accom. on way up, just can't wait! Will be on Orkney on the 15th, onto the night ferry on the 18th to Shetland mainland and up onto Unst for the 24th. Stopping at Saxavord so if anyone wants to join us for a beer on the Thursday evening after the Event that would be good (unless anyone has other plans). Dash back to get the ferry on 26th to Aberdeen Paganfrog, we hope to do a few caches in your area on the way up 13th 14th - will get in touch closer to the time. Looking forward to seeing you all. L&H.
  8. Well I never, thanks Bill! I knew a few of those but not many - there isn't a flag on the list for Worcestershire, or Herefordshire for that matter. I did wonder if it might still show as combined. Worcestershire CC are very fussy about the use of the county emblem, I asked if I could use it on some polo shirts with the caching team name but was told in no uncertain terms NO!
  9. We’ve done one Wherigo twice, once for ourselves and once with a group of local cachers - they borrowed the Mio to get the Icon. Nothing much wrong with the cache, software worked ok too, but we spent most of the time looking at the screen rather than enjoying the area we were in. When we are doing trads,?’s etc. we usually only need the Mio at the end to get close to the cache to find it. The rest of the time is spent chatting or taking in the scenery or trying to get breath when going up hills! The others who we followed around the second time weren’t too impressed either, if I remember correctly. There's no bustin' rush for us to to do another.....
  10. Other don't like it either: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=211990 If you don't, then tell 'em!
  11. Quite - if it must be anywher why not the front page? (if its not already there - we always skip it!) Please remove it from our profile page.
  12. I wonder if you folks can help me? I'm collecting info to build a history of UK geocaching and wondered if anyone knows which was the first geocoin to make it across the pond, that would probably be the first in the UK. If anyone knows which cache it went into that would be even more help! Thanks in anticipation, Henry.
  13. Its a slow worm unless my eyes decieve me, and it is late
  14. Loved your story I went to get a replacement for my old Brashers just over 12 monts ago, after sevenish years of service, and thought the new ones seemed different. Following some enquiries it seems that they used to be made by Clarks in Europe but are now made in China. I ended up getting a pair of Mendl mid range leather boots and they seem fine so far, I just keep them clean(ish) and use a waterbased wax fairly regularly rather than dubbin. My only (slight) gripe with the Mendls’ is that they are a bit heavy, that’s more than balanced out by them being supremely comfortable and they also support well. One other thing, the toungue is connected at both sides pretty much all the way up the boot so water will get in over the top rather than by the toungue. I’ve some old cheap gaiters that are just about worn out. I had a look at replacing them recently and was amazed how expensive they are now, so it looks like the old ones will have to do for a bit longer..... H
  15. Theres a stone that looks like an elephant on Bredon Hill in Worcs @ N52 03.615, W002 03.859 and several good caches too. We also found a face in a knarled old tree on the way to GCT704, see log dated 19.02.06 by It's Spitting! H
  16. Count us two in - could be the start of a new thread?
  17. There's one team that will be able to resist Great news its up again though, so come on you NE cachers, there's plenty of you to complete the set again
  18. Ah, that reminds me of "Colourbox" and that profile - that's much tamer now though........
  19. Well done & thanks Goldpot Now come on you folks up North I think there's a queue
  20. Probably a lot better driven than a lot of Beemers
  21. Firstly, thanks to all for the congratulations. We really enjoyed the series and thoroughly recommend it to everyone. Our special thanks go to PUP for his foresight in setting the series up, rastan for his help and encouragement and all those who took time and trouble to set each and every cache. bsh92673, aka BaSHful’s, listing of finders http://www.15ddv.me.uk/lq/lq.html also helped spur us on, especially with qrang and guageman showing signs of getting there as well – come on you guys, you’re nearly there! Oh, it took us 1 year, 24 days from the start (LQ:Gloucestershire) to the Final. The caches were quite varied in their execution and quality, see our log for the final for our favourites. As we visited each one we rated them on a 1 to 5 star basis as we wanted to be able to look back and have some idea of the general quality. 32 of the 46 (we couldn’t rate our own!) were 2.5 star or better. These ratings were based on our interpretation of the quality of cache and hide, how the cache represented the county and novelty value. We must sit down and work out how many miles we did. We usually made a day out by doing groups of caches in a given area and by combining the caches with holidays and Events. We'd rather not think about the fuel costs though........ Wouldn't it be excellent to have Little Quest’s for Scotland, Wales and Nor’n Ireland? So there’s a challenge to other cachers in the UK – we would definitely have a go at something similar in these other countries, especially as the Big Quest, sadly, doesn’t look like happening. Sorry to see that two of the LQ:’s are currently down. Please, if you can, join in to keep the series going, our own LQ: (Worcestershire) has had a good number of hits for a country cache, originally it was out on its own so it wasn’t easy to group with others. So, in our view, a great series, doesn’t matter how long it takes, go for it! The experience of logging the final, in such a brill location, was fantastic. Even the sun shone, no mean feat this summer....... What next? Return trip to Shetland and Orkney in June ’09 with a bit of luck. So many caches to do, so little time to do ‘em in. L&H
  22. My namesake on Time Team has one on a stick for recording the position of old things - perhaps I need one for locating L H
  23. May I suggest that you try keep caching and the forum seperate. Use the forum for help, news and advise and let those who like to discuss the ins and outs of what ever subject is currently flavour of the moment get on with it! It used to get under my skin a little, then we got stuck in to what WE liked and haven't looked back. Don't forget that what goes on here is only a tiny aspect of geocaching. IMHO, because topics, whatever, are written down here they are often be taken for granted that is the way it is, but that can be a long way from the truth. Go your own way, set your own (high?) standards and enjoy it - DLTBGYD - LOL H
