  1. Can't help but wonder what TPTB will make of this lot... Oh dear, I just bit my tongue
  2. .....and the co-ords don't seem very accurate either
  3. Not quite the car, but the number plate - as our avatar. We will keep the plate but, sadly, the old girl is getting a bit tired....
  4. They're added by Brian (outforthehunt), the cache owner. Not sure how he chooses them, probably at random, but they can't be added by us mere mortals. You can contact Brian and nominate trigs for possible future visits by the YOSM. Jon. Thanks gents...
  5. Excuse my ignorance (!) but how are new locations added to YOSM for others to find? I ask because I believe we have a rivet, that corresponds to a spot height of 26m, outside our house and we would like to include it in the listing. Thanks, Henry.
  6. Unfortunately I can still se it. Fortunately it dosen't clutter up the cache info when transferred into cachemate onto our Mio.
  7. Guess you saw our comments! We would really try to make it. L&H.
  8. Here’s our take on the subject: Harrogate and Weston attended. All being well, we will make Perth and Swansea. We thoroughly enjoying Harrogate due to fantastic organisation - considering it was the first in the UK, Harrogate itself, the outstanding local areas around the venue and because it was the first UK Mega. We felt Weston was almost as good, just as well organised but in our opinion not in such a good position for caching in the surrounding areas. Perth, as a town is a little like Harrogate IIRC, and promises to be another superb event. Swansea has all the promise of living up to the previous Megas, from what I can gather so far. By 2012, we will have attended 4 Megas, two in England and one each in Scotland and Wales, so the attraction of another English Mega isn’t so strong. We may not bother with future Mega events, but a Mega in Eire/Northern Ireland would be another matter….. I’m of the view (H) that generally the SE Mega will attract mainly cachers from the S/SE, with a few from the rest of the UK. Overseas visitors, will probably be made up of cachers who are over just for the Event with a further small number who have a shared interest in caching and the Olympics. The NW Mega will mainly attract cachers from the Midlands up and probably a reasonable contingent from North Wales and Scotland. The NW Mega could arguably be more convenient for cachers from NI, but having come over they may go the extra mile (excuse the pun) down to the SE. If each group thinks they can risk IRO £7.5k to put on their respective Megas then good on ‘em – JFDI - but please don’t spoil it for each other! We wish both organising groups the very best of luck. L&H.
  9. Looking forward to it to go with the other two! Please keep us informed when they are ready. Cheers, Henry.
  10. how do you go about asking a countie if you can use a coat of arms?? these are not family coat of arms they are counties You write to the County Council (or which ever body has the arms issued to them) and ask for permission. You can't just use them with out gaining permission. Quite right - we were going to get some sweat/polo shirts done with Worcestershire CoA on for last years the 2008 Mega. We spoke with the CC's "Head of Legal Services" who after listening to our request carefully, politely, pointed out that it was a corporate logo and could not be used withut permission, which would not be given. He knew about 'caching too! Great idea, but take care! You could, perhaps, alter the CoA slightly.....
  11. I hope your planning on enjoying this years repeat in Perth? I believe all side events bar the CITO event* have been published, so people can really start to plan their week. Week and a bit booked. We have enjoyed the hospitality of Perth before we started caching so look forward to a repeat performance with edited highlights! Looking forward to seeing you all there. Cheers, L&H.
  12. Geocachings a bit like a long running TV series for us – it all started off well, then flagged for a while, had a revival when a special (1st UK Mega!) came along and then ran on and on. Similar story line - different characters We do enjoy the occasional repeat though! L&H
  13. Try contacting one of the Jersey cachers: Jersey Royals Mundy family Jakobs team Iwuzere to neme a few.... When we went a few years ago there were plenty to go for!
  14. We'd be up for a Glasto Tor version at the right price - looks good!
  15. Maps are here: Link After a closer look it looks like £25 gets the operating system, the maps need to be downloaded after. I'll have a closer look when I get more time, perhaps. Would be interested in your comments though. Cheers, H.
  16. Anyone using Memory Map 1:50,000 for NI? We hope to come over this year and will get it if it's as good as the UK versions. Looks a bargain at £25.00. Cheers, H.
  17. Well there you are Just come in from work and checked "My Profile" and the same cache page that I was looking at last night and they're back to normal, the hampsters have probably had a good talking too..... I have had a similar problem - the notification email occasionally gives a different distance from home to the cache to that displayed on the cache page. Been going on some years now, GS don't know why! currykev - it's all done to keep us on our toes, don't want complacent geocachers do we? All part of lifes rich mystery I guess
  18. What I meant to say before is that the cache details page has not got the distance from my home co-ords on - think I'm tired! I checked my info and my home co-ords are there as they have disappeared or changed occasionly for no apparent reason in the past. Interesting to note that ny avatar is working here - I'm just getting the grey face on my "My Profile" page. Anyway, thanks all for the replies - it will probably sort it's self out in the next day or two. Cheers, Henry.
  19. I was just looking at "My Profile" page and saw that I'd lost my avatar and GS don't sem to know how long I have been a member for! This is cut and paste from the page: Hello L8HNB! Premium Member Since: Unknown Renewal Date: 3/27/2011 I have just renewed my Premium Membership, well within the expiry date, so that shouldn't have affected any of the above. I have also come to load some caches into my own database, that is based on distance from my home co-ords, and that info (12.5m N for example) is not on the cache page either. Anyone else experiencing this?
  20. Ok, now re-read my post of the 3rd Feb. We love happy endings
  21. Try google - "Mio P560 hard case" You should find an aluminium case made by PDair for about £17.00. We've had a similar one on our 550 for three yrs now, its beautifully made, not too bulky and quite strong, excellent bit of kit! If it rains we always have a few ziploc bags with us to pop it all in, again no probs with water ingress so far. Good luck!
  22. Mark, Cakie had a similar problem, see her post on the similar thread linky here. Good luck! Cheers L & H.
  23. Sorry to hear about your Mio. If you do get it fixed the trick is to make sure that Activesync is not trying to sync with other computers every few minutes, thats what rogers the battery - it is a pain in the bum but there are a good few threads on here on how to disable it, pm us if you can't find one. The Mio usually starts to behave slightly differently when it's reset it's self to auto-syncing, but as it only takes a few seconds to reset its no problem - it's poor software that lets it down - the later windows on the 560 sorts this I believe. We also switch the screen off when walking, easy if you are following a path, after all do you want to enjoy the scenery or stare at a PDA screen all day? We do have a battery backup, just in case, but rarely use it. Hope this helps. H&L.
  24. The Ripon Hornblower at one of the associated Events at last years Mega was giving out wooden pennies like those here: Linky. The Jersey Royals also leave something similar in caches - a picture of what's on theirs is on their web page at GC.com. H
