I am trying to figure out the best way to label the outside with the geocaching.com identifier. When I had these made... I had them cut 8, 6"x6" geocaching logos with "GEOCACHING.COM" in Arial caps under them out of black vinyl. I painted the can primer gray then put the decal on and made the stripes with regular masking tape. Sprayed flat black over the whole thing, let it dry for awhile then pulled off the tape and decals. I still had the lettering from the logo cut out and put that along one of the stripes. Some of the paint on the logo came off with the decal so I touched it up with a sharpie. I also use a sharpie or a marks-a-lot to mark the container, never seen it come off before.
  2. Recently started painting my ammo cans, tried a camo design first but it didn’t look so great so I painted it this way instead. Tell me what you think, any pics of containers you have painted.
  3. What about cache printouts? That classifies as first class junk as well in my opinion. I open up lots of caches to find several copies of the cache pages and any pictures. Why leave those behind? You have already found the cache why would he next finder need it?
  4. Just wanted to run an Idea by the forum before putting much more thought into the placement. We have a nearby paved walking trail that is about a mile or so long 1 way that goes under the bridge of a rather busy 4-lane road. The walking trail shares the bridge with small river/stream with stream going under the left side, and then there are some rocks, a railing dividing the rocks from the sidewalk, and then the concrete wall/bridge support on the right. (wish I had a pic handy) Since its a about a mile walk from the bridge to the parking area I thought it would be neat to have someone driving along the road and see the distance go down to 0’ as they go over the bridge then have find the trail head. But with all the talk about the guy who put the cache near the tunnel and then had to pay restitution, and had his DL suspended thought I would see what others thought of the idea first. Thinking of calling it “don’t let the troll get ya”, “Don’t feed the Trolls” or “answer me these questions 3” (multistage) What do you think?
  5. Back when I started this addiction in the fall of 2000 there were only about 7 caches in the state of GA. I placed my first in mid November 2000 and eagerly awaited for someone too find it. Almost a month later it was found, was so cool!
  6. When going on a longer walk to a cache location, while it may be a bit extreme to wear a full suit such as Anders, the material itself is much more comfortable when walking long distances than jeans. Although it doesn’t offer the same protection from thorns and such. This is from a cache with a couple mile hike in and out. Another Cacher in the area that we have met on hunts, has given us the nicknames “Sam and Sally Spandex”
  7. While out on a typical everyday cache hunt after driving in circles following your pointer for about an hour you finally find a good parking place You get out and walk to the general area of the cache and once there you begin your ground search. Your excitement grows as the GPS wanders between 3 feet and 20 feet as you circle the area. Then you spot something! I strange stack of logs, maybe an oddly placed rock, or some ground cover over an object! You race over to check to see if it is box that has driven you walk through spider webs, rivers, mud, thorns, and what ever else nature has put between you and the cache location. You pull the cache out its hiding place that the cache’s creator has carefully chosen. You open the box to see what’s inside…. What do you find? JUNK! I’ve gotten to the point where sometimes I don’t even bring anything to trade when I go on hunts. Just leave our card, a log entry and put it all back and it’s not the cache owners fault! They start out their cache with good stuff and others come along and leave trash. How many cache owners can afford to go back every few months and buy new stuff to restock their cache? I can’t! What can be done? I’d be interested also in knowing what kind of crap people have found in caches. Best Junk I have found so far: Piece of a cut up VISA credit card Childs notebook that looked to have been left out in the sun a rain for a few days after all pages were scribbled on. Tag from a pair of shoes Broken McDonald’s toys Melted candy Popcorn Much more…

  11. maybe he found a bunch of caches in one day and loged he left the keys in the wrong one! One of the "IF I win the lotery things" is to make a big multi stage, first person to finish it gets the keys to a new car/truck. Also though about making several keys putting them in and only one works.... only problem would be how do you stop the first finder from taking all of the keys. oh wel havent won yet, have pletny of time to think about it.

  13. Not geocaching related but for my GF’s birthday I gave her the money to join a competition swim team. However I gave her all $100 in $1 bills and registered all of them on where’s George with “CB” in the remarks field, took about 2 hours total. Gotten hits on about 5 of them.
  14. onr of our GGA members makes them. He was selling them for $5 not to long ago. He also leaves them in caches as a trade item. He goes by erik88l-r
  15. Now why is it when I read "2002 GPS GoldRush" I pictured this? owned by "Xorro" of the XOC
