This issue still persists, in both Chrome and Firefox. My last post in May was using Firefox in Windows 8, I'm now using Windows 11. Cookies have been removed, multiple times. And also after waiting for over a minute, just in case the map would reload to the location of the PQ. But it never does. Had any technician already looked at this after 6 months?

Yes, same issue in Firefox as BoomerBuckeyes. Pretty annoying, since I make a lot of PQ's when I'm not home and want to visit different directions. Now I have to guess if a certain area will be included in the PQ. Can this be fixed, please?

De 'protestgroep' heeft zijn keutel weer ingetrokken door de meeste caches die op TD waren gezet weer online te gooien. Storm in een glas water, dus. Nu is het hopen dat de kwaliteit van de caches ook verder omhoog gaat.

Heb je een bepaalde dag ingesteld? Zo niet, dan komt de PQ ook niet per mail naar je toe, omdat het systeem niet weet op welke dag de PQ aangemaakt moet worden. Houd er ook rekening mee dat de server in de VS staat, waar een andere tijdzone is; de juiste dag staat bij het aanvinken van de dagen van de week op de PQ-pagina. Een door mij daarnet aangemaakte PQ is direct aangekomen, dus ik vermoed dat het zoiets is.

Als alternatief kun je ook in je GPS de cöordinaten in RD (of menig andere vorm) invoeren, door onder instellingen het type coördinaat aan te passen. Dat kan je in het veld een internetverbinding of een aparte app schelen die je moet gebruiken.

GS omschrijft dat wat ik al schreef; Dat je niet bent uitverkoren wil niet zeggen dat je tweede- of derderangs bent, dat je inzet niet wordt gewaardeerd en dat je caches de moeite niet waard zijn, dat wil zeggen dat je in deze tombola niet gewonnen hebt.

Even then they would moan: "I wasn't picked, so I'm unhappy." Let's hope CO's start to invest in quality rather than quantity, so they'll have a chance in the future if this trial is repeated. And for those that don't care or don't want to invest, nothing changes. Sorry to hear, until now it doesn't affect me or my search for caches that are of good quality.

Ik vermoed dat je dan ooit een keer de vraag hebt gekregen in welk programma je de link wilt openen en toen op "C:GEO" hebt gedrukt, waarna dat is opgeslagen. Ik heb geen tablet tot mijn beschikking, maar ik denk dat je onder Instellingen ergens "Standaardprogramma's" hebt staan waar je C:GEO uit kunt wissen, daarna zou je tablet bij het openen van de link weer moeten vragen welk programma je wilt gebruiken om de link te openen.

Ik vind de ontstane situatie erg entertainend; zij die ongevraagd iets toebedeeld hebben gekregen zijn over het algemeen blij, zij die niets hebben toegekend gekregen zijn verdeeld in 2 kampen: Het overgrote merendeel kan het niets schelen en het handjevol dat vindt dat zij gepasseerd zijn. En allemaal hebben ze hun eigen redenen waarom zij vinden dat ook zij 'recht' zouden hebben op een Virtual om te plaatsen. En hoeveel van die caches voldoen nu echt aan de kwaliteit die Groundspeak zoekt? Ik heb gisteren een hele waslijst ontvangen aan caches die op Temporarily Disabled gingen met overal dezelfde gekopieerde tekst bij wijze van 'protest'. Ik ben nu nog op zoek naar de caches in die lijst waarvan ik denk dat het zonde is dat die op TD zijn gezet. Ik heb moeite ze te vinden. Oftewel: Je kunt wel 100 caches plaatsen, maar als er van die 100 maar een handjevol is dat écht gewaardeerd wordt (en dat hoeft niet alleen met FP's, dat kan natuurlijk ook door uitgebreide, leuke logs waar de waardering van af spat), heb je misschien wel heel veel caches geplaatst, maar dat wil nog niet zeggen dat die kwalitatief interessant zijn. En laat dat nou net zijn waar Groundspeak van zegt op geselecteerd te hebben. Aantallen zeggen dus niks, zowel geplaatste caches als gevonden caches; het gaat om kwaliteit, niet om kwantiteit. Dat je niet bent uitverkoren wil niet zeggen dat je tweede- of derderangs bent, dat je inzet niet wordt gewaardeerd en dat je caches de moeite niet waard zijn, dat wil zeggen dat je in deze tombola niet gewonnen hebt. Dan gaan 'protesteren' is volgens mij zoiets als bij de Staatsloterij klagen dat er geen prijs op je lot is gevallen. Volgende keer beter!

You know what the best part of the 'protest' is? Yesterday I've received all those mails telling me a whole bunch of caches went on Temporary Disabled. Really none of those caches are interesting; caches that are around for many years and after all those years had just a few favourite points. Also the logs didn't show anything interesting about the caches. No special places to be visited, no beautiful area to find the cache in, nothing special about the container, just another cache 'because there wasn't one yet'. So, in the end Groundspeak gets what they're looking for: More quality. I'm happy these CO's TD'd their caches, all they have to do now is archive them, so all those petlings can be removed and only real quality caches can be placed in those areas. But only if it's an area worth visiting.

Why? To place a cache you're required to have permission to place it from the land owner (in this case I guess the City), which would take out all sorts of discussion with anyone else, or doesn't that rule exist in your area?

My first was earlier this year in Melbourne, Australia, where I visited the Formula 1 Grand Prix. "This will be difficult, if not impossible to do during the Melbourne Grand Prix," the description said. You sure? Let me try! So, the GP finds place in a public park that gets closed during the GP weekend for the event, but all the caches stay in place. So, I did try to find the one in the middle of the park. Yes, this is a pretty crowded area when the GP is going on. Lots of traffic from suppliers passing by, F1 fans wandering around and of course some team pulling over right behind me at GZ. But then they move on, I look around and decide to go for it; nobody's watching. Normally it's grab and go. Not this one, of course. So, while I'm turning the container, a safety marshal steps up to me. "What's happening, buddy?" Oh, ohw... So I take out the cache, smile at him and show him exactly what I'm doing. He looks at me through his sunglasses, up and down, looks at my GPS on which I'm showing him all the green dots around in Melbourne and I tell him what geocaching is. That's the moment he's going to kick me out, call the police, the bomb squad, let me get deported... "That's fair. It just looked strange." And then he's off. Phew... I log the logbook, put it back and then I walk away. Impossible during the GP? No. A wise thing to do during the GP? Nah... The day after I had a likewise encounter at the GP (even though you'd say I had learned from the first mistake, but no...), where the official wasn't convinced by my story and asked his colleague to come over. After she showed up with an army of about 7 trainees another guy showed up, looked at the cache, took my passport in his hands and then saw that I'm Dutch. "You from Holland?" Yes, I am. "My sister lives in Holland, too. She lives in Ida?" Then I started to laugh, I asked him if he meant Ede. He said "Yes, that's the place, Ede!" That's where my ex-girlfriend comes from. He smiled, closed my passport, gave it back and the whole problem vanished as quickly as it came.

What I don't like about the new maps, is that it doesn't show the difference between A-roads (the normal road that is used a lot) and the B-roads (sideroads that are used less, or go to places no one wants to go). For example, I've made 2 screenshots of my local area. The Google maps perfectly shows the difference: where the Geocache maps thinks that every road that consists of more than dust should look the same: One will say that's just something you'll need to get used to, others will advise to use another map lay-out, but maybe there's a possibility to merge that information into the Geocache maps?

Hi Laura, How big is your .gwc-file that you want to upload? I learnt that if it's bigger than 20MB it won't upload and that you won't get a error or hint that's the problem.

Let daarbij wel even op het tijdstip en de datum van de server die erbij vermeld staan; die servertijd is Amerikaanse tijd, dus het kan op woensdagmiddag bij ons best zijn dat de datum van de server nog op dinsdagavond staat. Op die manier kan het lang wachten zijn op een Pocket Query die in principe binnen enkele minuten klaar kan zijn.

Call it what you want to call it, but it's nothing more than a simple request. After you've visited my cache, for which I made effort to place it and do maintenance on it, can you put a little effort in your log by putting more in it than just 'TFTC'? Thanks! If that's too much to ask for... (And why are you quoting me if it's the last post in the topic? There's no use!)

That's exactly why I only ask and don't demand; I've given the cachers the information that I rather receive logs with more than just 'TFTC!' in return for a cache that's worth the effort of visiting. You can't say it's "highly ineffective", since nobody can tell if it is or not. I can't say that it's effective, for the same reason. I don't think that's poor taste, I just ask something in return. I don't do anything about logs that just exist of 'TFTC', I just sigh and roll my eyes. That's all.

I don't like to receive logs with "TFTC" too. I put energy and money in a geocache, try to hide something special, that's worth a visit. I do understand the CO that he doesn't like 'TFTC'-reports and that he wants to encourage cachers to put some effort in a log, but the way he is doing that, doesn't get any points. I personally, try to encourage cachers to write a log by putting an image on the page (in Dutch) asking to write something more than just "TFTC".

Can you tell me how to get their cartridge file, so I can get them?

For you there's no difference in that cache, for a Cache Owner (CO) there is, because not everyone can find that cache, which gives more possibilities for the CO. A PM cache doesn't make it different than others.

And then the next question; How interesting or special is a geocache at a roundabout? Is it worth to visit, or is it just another cache because you can put one there?

Wat vaak voorkomt is dat als je de muisaanwijzer ter hoogte van een cache op de kaart zet en dan scrollt, alle andere caches eromheen wel op dat niveau klikbaar zijn, maar die ene cache waar je muisaanwijzer op stond niet. Kwestie van of nog een niveau in- of uitzoomen, waarna ook die cache klikbaar is.
