  1. Went back to GCT2B7 to have another hunt around but still no luck. Wandered into town, and realised another cache should be nearby - GCGG9E - and found that - so at least I found one this weekend!
  2. On a related note, I've been using my yellow eTrex in battery save mode - assuming that the only thing I'm loosing is the coninual updating of the signal, so with patience its just as accurate - am i right in this? Have tried changing the settigns to WAAS when out in the open, but the skyview doesnt seem to register the satellites - theres no difference then in battery save mode. Shouldi just give it longer to search, even when it says ready to navigate?
  3. Thanks for the encouragement. Am off to try back at one of the sites today, so here's hoping. Looking back - i did find a virtual cache as part of the second hunt, so I guess being positive it was 1 out of 3 !
  4. Had the day all planned - use cache hunting as a way of exploring the area around where i live. Two caches (GCJTN5 and GCT2B7). 8 mile round trip from where I live, so ifigure nice hike, good weather for it.... Then couldnt find either. First cache in woods where conservationists are busy renovating, so might have been moved. Second, had no luck with at all (apart from mis-calculating the bearings and finding some kid's stash of girly mags (!) - not what i was expecting!!). Back home tired , happy, but a little frustrated. Will have to try again, undeterred. Maybe i was expecting it too easy on my first attempt. Also, not sure how to go about cache hunting once your GPSr finds the rough area. Anyone have suggestions or tips?
  5. Well, I've had my eTrex less than 24 hours and I'm already falling for the little thing - seeing if i can wrtie my name in my auto-track as i walk to work!! Entered in my local caches and am plotting a route on my OS map to follow this weekend. Hope to come back tired but happy with my first cacges under my belt
  6. THis sounds good fun - if i can get the use of my gf's car.... What about doing it all by foot, if the location's good? Or combining it with things like paintballing? Or is that too much like extreme geocaching??
  7. Oops, don't like the sound of that, where did you hear the report ? Initially through www.fark.com - which lists amusing news stories - it had a link to a news article from a regional paper in the US about someone reporting finding a cache and reporting it to the police. It was properly labelled and permission to hide it had been granted, so it was all resolved quickly. And didnt put the hobby in a bad light - intrigued me enough to go to geocaching.comand read up on it some more!
  8. Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself as a newbie (soon-to-be) Geochacher! Been lurking for a short while. My Garmin etrex finally arrived today (quickly ran out of work to test it out). Will plug in a few details of local caches before I head home. Then am ready to go for some weekend hiking/caching! Geocaching has really caught my imagination - first heard of it on a news report about it being confused with terrorism (?!) and somehow my twisted logic decided that I'd give it a go! Glad to see I'm not the only newcomer too!
