  1. I have two interesting situations that have occurred with two of my Geocoins. I was trying to catch up and remind folks about moving a coin along after it hadn't moved in a long time. I got a response back from someone saying that a friend had sold them the coin. I told them they should get their money back because it shouldn't have been sold to them. It wasn't their friends to sell. Another problem I am having....someone has taken and posted my Ellis Island coin on Flickr. I have received several discovery notices but feel like this is wrong, that people should discover them by seeing them in person. I don't buy coins anymore because they eventually go missing but I feel like these last few have been HIJACKED!!!
  2. Several years ago I purchased a number of geocoins to travel the US and World. I was having some health problems at the time and it was a nice way for me to experience some adventure through these coins travels. Since I wasn't able to do much geocaching I released these in one of my close caches and enjoyed seeing them travel. Sadly, like many of you, my coins have disappeared over the years. I think I have 15-20 of them out of about 40 still moving along. I've come to realize they will eventually go missing. I did replace a few I knew were permanently missing with clones because I enjoy seeing them move and like the fun they bring to others and myself. One observation I do have is that the coins I own traveling in Europe do not seem to go missing. What does this say?
  3. I started two Travel Bugs, Politically Blue TBPZ9B and Politically Red TBQ6XQ back in 2006 as the Presidential candidates were gearing up. Politically Blue to this date has traveled 20,114 miles compared to Politically Red's 5,596 miles. Politically Red has been up in Canada close to Alaska for some time now (ironic ) If the number of miles traveled is any indication of how the Presidential Election votes will end up? This geocacher is hopeful.
  4. If the person in question has a high number of cache finds, GC can use the threat of cancelling his membership to bring him around. How many 'high number' cachers would be willing to start from 0 finds? Threatening someone is never an effective deterrent. Either you reason with them or deny service. I noticed the guy has a NEW Cache. Maybe he could stock it with his Collection!
  5. The reintroduction of the topic since 2005 may bring out some new insights. Oh well... I think it is best that I just go back to Lurking.
  6. All I ever really needed to know I learned from Geocaching. The following is a list of things I have learned from Geocaching since my commencement 6 months ago. I got this idea from being a short-time Lurker. This is my first forum post beyond asking a technical question and responding to Lurker? I apologize if this has been done before. I would love to read others amusing or lighthearted thoughts. Happy Hunting! •I've never had so much fun getting poison ivy, chiggers and ticks! •The difficulty of the cache is relative to how much whinning occurs in a log. •There is a lot of unwanted McJunk in the world. •One person's strenuous adventure may be a walk in the park to another. •People stare at you funny when you pick up trash. •Lurk (read only) when there is a heated forum discussion. •I must have been an archeologist or a pirate in a former life since I have an urge to dig and look for treasure. •There are few to no dangerous caches outside our American legal system. •My boys can't figure out where some of their rarely used toys have gone. •Gecoins & TB's can magically disappear. •Virtual's grow on you. •If money or gift certificates are involved in FTF my teenagers want to join the hunt.
  7. Yes! Certainly guilty of lurking. In fact, this is the first forum I think I have subscribed to. I have posted once or twice to ask a technical gps question. I am thankful for the brilliant answers that has allowed me to become a more efficient cacher. Have only been caching for about a half a year (found 123 placed 3) so I have much to learn which I hope to do from the many positive and insightful contributers there are. Plan to make my first actual feedback type post with request for input from others shortly. 8. Here is a somewhat recent thread with some suggestions on interfacing with Mac. You'll see a post from me with a note about MacGPS Pro, by James Associates. Overall it works well, with the caveat noted in my post about multiple uploads/downloads to/from the GPS. It is not free, but it DOES work directly with the USB interface. I use it with my Garmin 60C. Another very nice feature is the ability to purchase topos by state, or for specific national parks. You can use them on your computer--very nice for overlaying track logs, but of course can't load the maps into the GPS. You can use the topos to set waypoints & routes and upload them (the waypoints & routes) to the GPS. I was also hesitant to try another Mac program (don't recall which) because it looked like it was either not supported, or not being updated regularly. I have not used any of the other programs listed, but they appear to work for others. Thanks for your time in giving me this very helpful information. I will certainly try it. Also, it won't be too much longer until Garmin has Mapsource for Mac. They said by the end of 2006 and we are almost halfway through the year. That will hopefully solve are map problems.
  9. I've been putting in waypoints by hand and I have noticed several programs to upload with Mac. I'm a bit confused as to what program would work best with my particular GPS. I searched the posts but have either overlooked this discussion or I'm just too inexperienced to figure this out myself. Can anyone help?
