  1. Received the cable today. Works fine. I downloaded Easygps - does anyone know if this has an option for changing the GC code for when you send to the gps?
  2. Just ordered a USB serial converter cable. Fingers crossed I can get it to work.
  3. Personally it wouldn't be a cache that I would look for simply because I don't own a metal detector. Just like I wouldn't search for some extreme cache where I would need climbing equipment, however, lots of people do enjoy those challenges. Why not try it, if it doesn't work out you can always archive it. How about a metal cache designed to look like something else (non metallic) which is then placed around the non metallic objects its disguised to look like?
  4. Thanks. Once I get one I'll probably have more questions
  5. Hmmmm so this is where they all come from... GC2KNRA
  6. Thank you for all the advice. Going to look into buying a suitable lead.
  7. I've been using an Etrex H for the last couple of years and I have been putting the coordinates in by hand. I've been considering buying a lead so that I can download the coordinates. My questions are: Am I right in guessing it will just be the coordinates that get downloaded onto this particular unit or do clues and other info also get downloaded? Do you have to manually input names/numbers for the downloaded coordinates or are they named/numbered from the download? I'm running Windows 7 (which by the way was MY idea) - Would a serial converter lead need to have software to support it? Finally, is it easy enough to transfer data or should I just stick with the old thumbs? Thanks for any advice for which I think is probably a reoccurring question
  8. I've read a log on a cache pages where a cacher has accidentally jabbed themselves with a used syringe. From some of the logs it seems like the area must be used by an addict every now and then. That's one smiley I won't be attempting to get I guess you have to be that little bit more vigilant with some caches.
  9. Thank you - I have just been advised to change my browser to something other than Internet Explorer. Panic over!
  10. Try Firefox... ~wipes sweat from forehead~ Thank you Bear and Ragged I was starting to panic there I wonder why Internet Explorer doesn't load the maps?
  11. I'm just checking to see if anyone else has been experiencing problems with the Geocaching.com Google Maps link on cache pages. I've just upgraded to Windows 7 so I'm not sure if the problem lies with the security set up of my new operating system or if it is a site malfunction. I'm receiving the following message A malfunctioning or malicious add-on has caused Internet Explorer to close this webpage. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks in advance for any help with the above question.

  13. It might be a typo and should have said 'comb'.....
  14. I was interested in the background of a place called Little Church Rock in the Simonside Hills. I ran an internet search and one the links was for Geocaching.com. I registered straight away but it took me over a year to actually start caching
  15. Sorry for the treble post: the wife is trying to post on this thread
  16. The deleting of online logs seems a bit petty in my opinion. If someone has taken the time to go out and find a cache and sign the logbook, then the cache owner shouldn't delete any online logs just because the length of the log doesn't please them. Caching is a nice hobby, enjoyed by many people, young and old. But it seems that some of the adult cachers need to take a leaf from the kid's book and cache for the simply pleasure of having fun. I think Chalky723 has made some very valid points.
  17. I'm thinking about placing a small disco cache, but the log book is going to be really small and will probably need replaced quite often. What I was wondering is--rather than signing the log book--would it be acceptable to have a unique code on the log book and ask people to pm / email me with the code when they have found the cache? Cheers
  18. You might want to invest in a Garmin case for the Etrex as the rubber tends to come away from the sides on a lot of them. Apparently Garmin are pretty good about replacing them when this happens......the only problem is not having a gps for a few days
  19. The largest container I've found is GC1ADVP, aptly named XXL
  20. Thank you all for the help and advice. I didn't even realise there were unapproved applications....shows how much I know
