  1. I just received my first free trackable to send out. Do I attach this to something like a "regular" travel bug or is it generally sent out by itself? The one sponsored trackable we have found was by itself, so I was surprised to see another person who attached something to theirs.
  2. Oh the snark. Yeah, we're camping with no electric hook-ups and I don't plan on keeping my car running to charge. I mostly disconnect when we camp, and am a new geocacher so this will be interesting for me to balance.
  3. Perfect- thanks. Who knew it would be so easy. Now to just make sure I can keep my phone charged.
  4. What is the best way to plan my caches for a trip to the Smoky Mountains where I likely won't have phone service for much of the time? I'll be caching with my Iphone 4. I'm a premium member and have the paid app.
  5. Thank you for posting this, it is a work around to enter the code. We just completed our first Wherigo today. I will say it was fun, but the final was a disappointment. Why create a multi stage virtual then hides a magnetic nano as the final? Anyway, I got my icon for a Wherigo. Yes! This was my exact complaint about the one Wherigo I did. I took a lovely hike throughout the woods, only to be lead to a micro in a parking lot.
  6. This area is a bit unique (at least in my experience) in that there is lots of state land without much access amongst houses. People park on the roads to access much of it. The township built a park on part of the state land they acquired but it's connected to the still remaining state land and Michigan horse trail system here. I have my suspicions on what may have happened after some thinking last night, but I've replaced and slightly moved it now, so only time will tell.
  7. My geocache hide has been out there a month and I'm assuming was already muggled. I'm going to check on it tomorrow, but is it just doomed? I'm feeling defeated and it's just my first hide. In searching some users on the site the other day, I discovered that there used to be a cache in the same park that had its ammo can stolen (and contents dumped into Tupperware). Mine was just a pb jar. In your experience, if your cache was muggled, did it continue to be stolen?
  8. Just wondering. Other than when you read there's an issue, do you routinely check in?
  9. Almost all of the caches we find are hiking caches, so I always try to include a little about our hike. Pictures, what animals we saw, mushrooms, wild flowers, etc. No one is under an obligation to write longer logs, IMO, but it sure is nice to read the few that have been written to log my first hidden cache
  10. I actually haven't found the cache yet, but was thinking of doing so and wondered if I should bring a spare container to transfer it to. Seems a lot of the caches in that area are lost or not maintained well, so maybe I just need to hide some of my own nearby.
  11. What is the protocol for replacing a damaged cache container that's not your hide? Numerous people have posted that a cache near me is damaged and soaking wet, and the owner hasn't been on since October of last year. Is it bad form to replace it? The owner only has 8 finds so I'm not even sure will be back to caching.
  12. Perfect- thank you all! Nancycle, I assumed that was the case. Didn't want any attempting FTF to be mad! Thanks.
  13. I am planning my first hide and had a question. When I put it together, I will be using a label where I include the cache #. How do I know what it will be without having submitted it already? Do I wait to hide it until after it's been published? Or do I just go out and update the label after it's been approved and published? Thanks!
