Let's create the lamest cache ever!
Cachefoxxe replied to Dan2099's topic in General geocaching topics
Maybe putting it on the Shopping cart corral in the lot? -
The coin with the traveler already has a hole in it, so that wont be a problem. Thanks for the input. Yea I know they sometimes go missing, but I am not worried about it. Once I have the coins I'll post the reference numbers here (Not the coin numbers as I know thats a no no) so if anyone is interested they can look at them. none of these are Great just common ones I think.

I know why it was moved but im wondering should it have been moved. A lot of people read the forums, but how many know how to log a trackable or even what one is. Most new people probably dont come down here to the TB forum and just go to the first 4. Maybe if was kept in the Geocaching Topics are people who dont know would have found out.

Ok So I have order my first geo coins. These are going to be released, and I had a couple of questions. First one, is being released in memory of my cat. She passed away a few months ago and Im going to put her pics on the coin page. Im just wondering if people think this is in bad taste? This will be her memorial for me and my wife. Second coin I was thinking of adding it to a traveler. I know this is what a TB is for but can this be done with a coin as well? Third coin will be a standard cache and release. thanks for the responses, in advance.

The word "Evil" in cache descriptions, logs
Cachefoxxe replied to Team_RedPanda's topic in How do I...?
I noticed a few of these myself, but I spent some time doing research on the web. Check out http://www.geocachehides.com/ they have a number of evil containers that might give you some clues. Also do a search on youtube for Evil Geocache to see some more. Good hunting. -
I have a couple of comments, first what about adding in a drop down menu, similiar to the account recovery questions at mail sites. And having the answers verify the find. but have the answers or one or two of them have nothing to do with the cache but can only be found by actually going there. Ok I do now that this is not going to be implemented as virtuals are no longer valid except the grandfathered ones. just an idea. Second i found a virtual cache here where the cache owner says Do not post any pics or info that answers the questions needed to verify the find. however in the image gallery, there are several pics that give you all the info needed to log it. i sent the CO a message telling them this, but never got a response. i didnt log it at that time but later I did go there and logged it, i answered the CO's questions, and added some info that would only be known by actually going there, as well as taking a picture with the date and time stamp. never got any kind of response at all. A couple of other local virts I got responses from the CO's within hours. i guess it all depends on the CO's

What about the people who log the find but don't log the tb drop, or pick up. right now Im drawing a blank on this one, but I would love ideas about how to raise the awareness.

You may think you have found a geocache...
Cachefoxxe replied to Mrs. Mumble's topic in How do I...?
You know what about getting this stickied so that its always up there when new people show up.... -
I don't get it. Police cars park in front of police stations? Like I said i wish I had a picture, the sign made it look like you couldn't park police cars there.

I was raised in South Carolina, so for me it is very hard to get lost in the forest. I find its much easier to get lost in a city. As for helping you out what is quoted above me is a good start. The main thing to remember if you get lost is DON'T PANIC! (let the hitchhikers guide references begin!) If you do get lost, Stop walking, and take a few deep breaths. Then look around look for landmarks that you saw coming in to the area. Look for trails, this is not as hard as it sounds, the ground on a trail is going to show signs like hard packed dirt and leaves pushed off to the side. broken branches and tall grasses that have been crushed. The wider the trail the bigger the creature that uses it. if the sun is on your right side going in. then put it on your left going out. Make sure that if you start in the morning and this happens in the afternoon then this would be switched. One more thing, the edges of forested areas can grow a very dense underbrush, so dense that if you inside the forested area it looks like the woods just keep going and there is no end. When all you had to do was push through that and your in the clear. Also if your using an ipod or MP3 player. stop using it, it could hide the sound of something like cars going by or someone calling your name. These are a few of the basics, if you want more great ideas. Read a copy of the Boy Scouts Handbook. there is a bunch of great info in there, for camping and hiking as well as a bunch of other stuff as well. I hope this info has helped.

I wish I had a picture of this one, but I saw it in front of a Police station in Pittsburgh. "No Parking Police cars only"

To photograph or not to photograph?
Cachefoxxe replied to Glenikins's topic in General geocaching topics
This is how I do it. For the ones where it could be a problem i'll take a pic and tell the Cache owner I have it to verify the find. Any questions I can email it to him. I look at the pics and read all the logs before I go and try to find one. I don't have a GPS and any clue can help me find the cache. You would be suprised at how many clues are in photos that are posted. That even the strictest CO has allowed. You just have to know what your looking for. -
We have one of these here. The GPS takes you to the side of the library where you find the first stage which tells you where to go and find the cache. (Its a 2 stage.) Before you continue you might want to check with the Librarians about where they will place the cache in the library. Here its in a section that doesn't use the DD system but is arranged by Authors name. If they plan on doing that then the whole DD system goes out the window. If they will add it into the DD system one way could be by placing parts of the DD number in several locations. Then the cacher has to figure out what order they go in. you could also use numbers off of the memorial plaques if any are present, to create the number. Course this would turn it into a puzzle cache....

From the cache page: Creepy was a good word for it! As soon as I saw the first post I knew what Library he was talking about. I see the Grey Lady is still making appearances. As for the topic yeah if you don't follow the rules its a DNF. but if the CO has had others that were allowed, then it sounds like he missed a few that should have been deleted.

Thanks for the reply. right now I have two caches in mind for this bug, both are pretty active and since they are both protected would be a great place to drop it off at.

Something that I am considering is adding a metal tag to it that says the same thing. you can get the tools and metal you need at craft stores then stamp the metal tag yourself this way it will last a lot longer than a paper one even if laminated. Also some military surplus stores sell custom dogtags you can buy one and then tell them what to stamp on it as well.

Ok I picked up a TB a few weeks ago, and have been to several caches where I could have dropped it off. However, when I checked the pages, I found that the TBs in them go missing very regularly. So I didn't drop it off. My question is should I hang on to it, until I find a "protected cache". Or just drop it off and hope for the best. What I mean by "Protected" is a cache that is part of a multi or puzzle. The final stage, of which, is being held in a business, and the only way to get it it is to solve the puzzle go in and ask for it. There are several of these near me and I just have to figure out the final location. I sent a message to the Bug owner and no response from them as to a preference. So for you bug owners out there. Would you rather the bug gets dropped off randomly or would you prefer if someone held on to it a while longer to make sure that it was safely dropped to continue its journey. BTW this is my first TB find.

I have yet to meet any other cachers face to face. When it does happen, (I know it will!), I will just use Logan. Logan is my name, so its no big deal. And the ghost hunter part is also what I do, so I am ghosthunterLogan, to everyone.

Shows up fine for me. I use Photobucket alot, so my suggestion is check your browser settings, and clear your cookies. Photobucket is designed for the pics to be posted elsewhere on the net. But some browsers block it with default settings.

Parts of moon off limits for cache hides?
Cachefoxxe replied to Chrysalides's topic in General geocaching topics
OK all this talk about the moon is cool but I want the FTF on the Mars Rover! -
If I just got off 9,999 caches, logging them would be the last thing on my mind (tied with everything else but sleep) Must get one more.......just one.......then passes out.....

CACHE PIRATES... This is a new one on me!
Cachefoxxe replied to Greyflank's topic in General geocaching topics
Unfortunately these people have many ways to get the information. I saw in another thread, that one guy had a premium account and was doing this he was using the premium account to find the hides. Then a sock puppet account to announce on the log that he did it. -
i actually found a cache today that had a bunch of this type of stuff in it. Punch cards for burgers and coffee, as well as a receipt for a restaurant. I cleaned it out I did leave the coffee card I figured that geocachers drink a lot of it and some one might want that.
