  1. In the area there is a cacher who sends all the puzzles she wants to find to a friend in another country to solve. He solves it and they both log the find. Back in June i hid my first puzzle cache. The puzzle wasn't anything special-just some basic googling was required. About a week later though, i noticed that the foreign country puzzler had posted a similar puzzle cache. In fact, it was very similar. Title, description. format puzzle were copy and pasted. Now, I was flattered that someone would like my puzzle enough to recreate it. Now i just hid my second puzzle a couple weeks ago. This one was one completely from my mind and i don't think had ever been done before. It has frustrated a lot of people so naturally, the one local cacher sends it to her friend. He eventually solved it and they both logged a find (not sure if that is legal). Now again, the foreigner posted a new puzzle cache, this time using the same puzzle idea i had. This time he says Suddenly, out of the blue at lunchtime, at 12.20, I had an idea for a new puzzle cache." There is no mention of me or anything and it is written as though it is his idea. This time i feel slightly offended. Shouldn't there be some mention of where the puzzle idea came from? Whats your opinion? Have you had experience with this sort of thing?
  2. I just placed my night cache today. First off, you should find an area that people can go into at night. That was my first step. Second you should plan the exact area and trail you will want to put the cache and firetacks on. Try to pick a trail that is unmarked and/or seldom used. Mine was on an offshoot trail from a fire road that was unmarked and led into some dark woods.Which brings me to my next point of advice. Make sure the area is cool at night. Anywhere with trees and not near a road or buildings should be good. Some night caches are along residental neighborhood bike paths and such where lots of people can see you wandering around in the dark and that sort of takes the fun out of it. Also make sure you have good firetacks and that it's not in a dangerous area. Also include some sort of cool dark theme.
  3. Well I'm 13 and i cache alone/without adults about half the time. Biking is my main mode of transportation. My non Geocaching friends-they don't get it at all whenever i even try to explain what it is but don't really care.
  4. I entered one at 8:11 one night and it was published at 8:13. Two -maybe one and a half minutes.
  5. Woo-hoo! I'm the 1864th geocacher with the most finds in California!
  6. Bring a ruler, clipboard and if you have one a HARDHAT. Totally convincing for lampskirt hides.
  7. I have 53 hides as of today. 10 of them are archived (one of them has been replaced as a new cache). Usually when i archive a cache, another one pops up right in the area so i can't replace it. Spots are getting tougher to find!
  8. The first cache i ever had was an ammo can off the trail about 30 feet. We have very tall redwoods in Santa Cruz so GPS readings are usually terrible in the woods. People destroyed the area around the cache (of course I got blamed) badly enough so that it was archived. When we were in NY there were a couple cache on a river near where we were staying. We did these caches and one of them was a micro on a remote stretch of the river (a micro in the woods...great). There were millions of spots and there was nothing of signifigance at the spot. A team of 5 people couldn't find within 45 minutes but i checked one spot off the coords and found it. I tore up the area not because i thought the cache was there, but i was just too frustrated (i kicked over a stump). Sometimes it IS the owners fault by providing a bad container size, bad coords and little description about the cache). Sometimes seekers have there "whos needs a hint? I can find this!" and that can lead to things being destroyed and such.
  9. Thats really good! I especially like the butterfly with the geo symbol.
  10. Well out here in Santa Cruz, the weather is quite mild. It never snows and the temperature only rises above 100 degrees once every two years. Also there are no thunder/lightning storms and the only natural disaster around here are earthquakes. The most common container are lock and locks and tupperware. Film cans are the most popular micro and I don't think I've ever found one filled with water. Tins of any kind don't work anywhere. I have an altoid tin cache but its under a drinking fountain so rain usually doesn't get to it. I know a guy who owns a tutoring business and he puts out jellybeans for the kids to eat. He goes through about one jar a week and used to give them to me for caches. Unfortunately we're now out of contact so i don't get a new jar every week. These jellybean jars are great for caching. Wrap them up in camo tape, slap a sticker on ,put in swag, log book, ect. I usually carry one when caching or hiking in case i find a good spot. I have one thats been out in the woods for about 10 months and has gone through some rain storms. I've never had a report of one leaking or getting broken. Mayonnaise jars and peanut butter jars also make great, cheap containers when you're done with them. Put them through the dishwasher though. I you have a family member that is highly allergic to something then they should have an epipen. When these expire use the container. I have one in a drainage tunnel thats been there for a couple months and it hasn't leaked at all.
  11. Do Tube Torcher II and Quantam Leap...those are two of the hardest caches ever. And what was that dramatic music at the snake encounter parts? Blah!
  12. It must be a bit of a pain when hiding them, right? I know there is software and stuff but still...
  13. So i was rooting through my geo stuff in the garage and came across 2 inactivated geo coins. One was a Maine Geocaching coin and one was an ohio geocaching coin. I went on to Coincodes but still can;t find that kind of coin! So i dont have an activation code, can someone help me here? Thanks Edit: OK well it seems the Main caching coin is not an actual geo coin. It is meant to be tracked through the maine cachers site. The ohio one is definitely a genuine geocoin however.
  14. So recently I've been trying to find "hidden spots" or 'local treasures" to hide caches. Secret swimming holes, mountain peaks, abandoned buidings, hidden views, waterfalls, ponds and such. Topo maps have been helpful, like a week ago i hid a cache called Table Rock which was an ocean rock structure that was magnificent and had lots of wildlife! But Topo maps have only gotten me to a certain point. I remember when Geocaching Maps had the function of viewing archived caches. There was a cache that had a secret waterfall and pond which required bushwhacking to get to. The cache itself was Archived a long time ago, before i started caching. So basically, is there anyway to get the new maps to show archived caches AND IF NOT Is there another way i can find the cache listing? Like a list of archived caches in my county? I do not remember the name or who hid it and i'd really like to find this spot. Thanks!
  15. I'm turning thirteen tomorrow. I have a geocaching buddy named Super Pig who accompanys me on most adventures. Hes also thirteen, but he scarcely logs the cahces he finds with me. Local cachers always seem a little surprised when they meet me, but i guess thats just how it goes. I've been geocaching since Februar, 2006. There was a one year period where i just didn't cache, so really i've only been caching for about 2 and a half years.
  16. Nope... Try searching online to see if there is anything.
  17. We go up to the Adirondacks every summer and more than once has the cache thief stolen a cache we were about to find. Also in hometown area is a person named venona who terrorizes the bay area with stealing TBs and caches, but this person (or people) is more organized in his terror. But what i want to know is why do this? Geocaching doesn't violate any rules, hurt anyone, it's a perfectly wholesome family activity.
  18. These two are nearby and god do i want to get them! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...77-57e820ab3188 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...79-ae91fcdf4f54 There's also this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...ac-1a54a9fdeb3d
