  1. Thanks for trying. The best of plans.........I had no luck. My coords took me to a place that seemed to match the hint. However, I was unable to find it. I'll log the DNF when I post my "today's activity." Sorry......
  2. Everyone in our family has their own TB. We have enjoyed watching the husband's and kids' Tbs move quite a bit over the last year. We launched mine (Texas T TB) Spring Break 07. The first person kept it hostage for 6 months before placing it. The next well meaning person dropped it in a cache oct 07. The cache hasn't been visited since. If anyone is caching in the area of GCZJ1W (north of Alexandria on 167) and could help move it along I would appreciate it. Thanks so much, Janet aka Doodlee00 mom
  3. I really have fun with this question. (It's a lot funnier if you've ever seen me. I was born without a right hand.) When someone approaches me, they usually have a funny look on their face, having seen my right arm, I just hold up my arm and tell them I'm looking for my other hand. "I had it when I came through here yesterday and I really want it back. If you see let me know...It's the one with the big green booger on the index finger"
  4. 1. How did you first hear about geocaching? My younger brother is a computer geek and came across it. He took me out to find a couple. I liked it and showed my husband. He is now obsessed. 2. Tell me about your first cache? The first cache my brother took me to was in a local cemetery, "Live and Die in Dixie". It was an easy find, but it took me a few minutes to figure it out. 3. Have you had any bad/scary experiences caching? A few months after starting caching we went to Palo Dura Canyon for Spring Break. We started out on a hike for a cache a little late in the day. It seemed to go on forever, we didn't have flash lights, and the coyotes were starting to get noisy. I freaked. My husband and 2 older kids rushed on to find the cache without me and the younger kiddo. Our reward was that they traded for a glow stick out of the cache. We made it back to camp just before dark. We learned to keep a flash light in the backpack. 4. What is the #1 reason you geocache? It is one activity that the entire family can do together. They get to compete over who found what. And I get to take pictures of areas I wouldn't have seen otherwise. 5. Do you prefer to hunt or hide? Mostly I navigate and watch. 6. What was your favorite cache place? Why? The top of Talimena Scenic Drive going from Arkansas to Oklahoma. Every where you could look was breath taking. We even managed to get a FTF on our trip through the area. If the caches hadn't been placed along this area I don't know if we would have went that direction. I'm am so grateful they were there. 7. What was your worst cache? Why? We drove 1 1/2 hrs out of the way on a trip to find a state sponsored cache. It was well publiced to contain prizes etc. I made the mistake of telling the kids. When we arrived, it had almost nothing in it. We made the most of it. We even left a TB to start out on it's journey. The TB was picked a couple of days later and basically held hostage for 4 months (Maybe that's why I disliked the cache so much... hmmm). 8. Have you ever attended a cache event? No, but the rest of the family has. 9. Tell me your best caching story? We were night caching with another family through a local park. The cache was a puzzle cache, and the trail went through a woody area. We searched and searched. Some of us went back to the cars whiel the others searched on. They finally figured out that we had walked the trail backwards. If we had went the right way we would have seen reflectors to guide us a whole lot faster and less chance of me getting the poison ivy that drove me nuts later
  5. ..... the best present(a new cache container) you received for Christmas had to be found with a gps.
  6. Thanks for all the help. I did find the manual online but I am also going to try the map and compass trick, just for practice for the future. It's great to know cachers help each other out in a pinch. Thanks again everyone
  7. I have a Garmin etrex. Yeah the cheap yellow one... It was given to me second hand and, alas no manual included.
  8. I have recently been attempting a multi-cache in which the next stage is given as a heading and distance instead of coordinates. My gps is a cheap model that does not have that capability. Does anyone know how to calculate the next location? I have attempted using a compass but being in town too many buildings to make it feasible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
