  1. For ticks we keep a roll of 2 inch tape around to stick them to, weather they are attached or not we put them on the tape, and fold it over so we have the tick species in case we get lime disease. For chiggers after they are burrowed in, we use Listerine, yes the mouth wash to relieve the itching and promote healing. Any flavor of Listerine will work but we use the old brown type, the other flavored one are a bit sticky, but the relief is great.
  2. I Like the way you ask her. Geo-caching was not invented when I purposed.
  3. I use 15 minute rechargeables from Radio Shack and love them, they last 2 days, turning the GPS off at night. I bought some EverReady from Wal-Mart, that came with a home charger and a car charger. Which I paid $10.00, they are well worth the money. Now I always have fresh batteries with me.
  4. I hate thieves, and vandals. Every time I was stolen from, or vandalized, the police take the report but seam to have the attitude of why bother. They know also there is nothing they or you can do except feel angry and victimized. I would visit the store where I purchased the items and see if they have surveillance of the parking area. Show them the police report they could possibly give you a discount on replacement of the items.
  5. I want to know why that Dog is wearing glasses? How did you know what the correct prescription was? Do they fall off when he wags his tail? And I guess what is his name?
  6. just sort of answerered this on a different thread. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...p;#entry3195601 GPS, Etrex Legend CX with 2 gb Maps, City Navigator North America V7 Paperless, HP Pavilion laptop computer: We open all the Caches we are looking for in Internet Explorer, the tab version. We leave the computer in the car and look at the hints before we begin each Cache. When we return home we just sign on to Geocaching. com in the first tab and hit refresh on the other tabs and log our finds. We will soon have AT&T high speed Internet and we will be able to sign on at McDonald's and other hot spots, this will be great for when we find ourselves near a cache we did not open a page for. Software, Easy GPS

  8. Yes the light will stay at the level you set it at till it loses external power.
  9. The rubber band issue, and a new software version to correct the issue of not being able to move off the compass page when you are navigating to a Geo cache. The other thing I would like would be a larger screen. Make it possible for rechargeable batteries to be charged while plugged into the car adapter.
  10. Signed log with stick we burnt with a lighter. Wet logs are a problem now and then, when the paper wants to tear from the pen. Always have a pocket knife with me to sharpen pencils in cache. I think the excitement of the hunt and getting close makes us forget the writing instrument. The other thing is when you find a cache, and there is no room on the log to sign, of course you do not have paper either. I usually find something in my wallet to leave even if it is a corner of a business card.
  11. Do not forget your GPS will tell you what time the sun will set, and what the moon phase is. A full moon can light your way at night. Do not forget to mark the way point of your car if you are going far enough away that you will be out of sight of it. Then you can use the track back option to get you back to your car. Do not forget extra batteries for all your electronics and lights. Do not forget the BOOGY MAN hides behind the trees in the woods, not the closet door in your room. Night catching is fun and mysterious.
  12. I have Internet Explorer the version with the tabs. I decide which Caches I want to find on my GPS, usually in an area of close proximity to each other. I then open each Cache in a new tab on Internet Explorer. I leave Internet Explorer open and put my laptop on standby or sleep mode, and when I need information on the Cache all I need to do is look at the computer. I have the hints, and the logs all right there. When I get home I just reconnect to the Internet and do my logs for the Caches I've found. Occasionally we even go hunting for Caches we have little or no information on just for the challenge, then sometimes we will be close to a Cache I did not open the page for and go looking for it.
  13. My Legend CX goes goofy when I plug it into the car adapter. It has me wondering all over the place but near where I am at. I found I need to shut it off and turn it back on without unplugging the adapter. After getting a fix it works properly. When I called Garmin they ask if it was difficult to plug in the car adapter and ask if my cable to my computer worked properly. I never pursued it farther but I think there is a problem with the car adapter, my car adapter is difficult to plug in and unplug, the computer cable plugs in easily.
  14. Yes: Go to main menu go to setup go to system setup press menu tab to software version
  15. Go to main menu go to setup go to display move down to Daytime color scheme, see if you can use a different color scheme to see your screen better. move down to nighttime color scheme, and select the color best for you to see at night. move down to backlight timeout, and select the amount of time you want the light to stay on, there is a setting that says stay on. Press the button on the upper right side of your Garmin and your settings should be saved. I hope this helps, I think a different screen color might be of use to make it easier to see.
  16. A 1993 Jeep Cherokee right now, who knows what I will get in the future. It's known around here as the beeping jeep, because it beeps when you backup.
  17. I have the cheap reading glasses for when I am alone and my wife for other times to help navigate. The first thing I need to get is the windshield mount to hold my GPS. Christmas I hope.
  18. I like your GPS mount, do you have a link to where you got it?
  19. I have a cheap compass from Wal-Mart. What is the opinion of other members on the accuracy of these compasses? Is there a place to find information on how to use the compass for navigation in conjunction with the GPS?
  20. I have had a lot of erratic readings on my GPS, upload the the tracks and take a look at them they are also interesting. I agree they are caused by loosing reception and then regaining reception at or near the same point.

I have told other people about Geocaching and how to find the site, so they can get started in the fun. I can not find a page to print out so I could just hand them a business type card with the information on the card already. If I missed a page that does this, please guide me to it, if there is no such page can Geocaching.com make a page that would fill an 8x10 sheet of paper with business sized imprints so I could cut them apart and give them to potential participants in Geocaching. What do you all think?
  23. Unit: Etrex Legend CX Software: 2.60 Since I upgraded to the 2.60 software my GPS is more accurate. When on the compass page, when the Dist to next equals Accuracy in the data fields, I find myself within arms length of the cache. We did a 4 part cache and found all 4 with no problem, GCW6TH was the cache we found. It is more fun caching when you are not discouraged with your equipment.
  24. Lucky, What is your new rule? Don't put it on the car put it in the car. Great story. I am glad it turned out OK.
