  1. go with the Garmin. shop around. I reccommend you spend a little bit more and go for the 76CSx. If you have a Cabelas hear by, try the bargin Cove. people return GPS' all the time.
  2. I am from AZ and I have brought my GPS to Europe a few times. If you can try to sit by the window and record a track for your entire flight. it's really cool to veiw it in google earth.
  3. I got mine in the mail yesterday. I'm just starting to play with it but one thing i noticed right away was that there are more roads and the color scheme is different.
  4. Like you said, it shows the upcoming route/turns from the driver's perspective, although without the detailed map objects displayed (like the true car-based units). You can enhance this screen with data fields if you want, also (speed, time to next turn, time at destination, etc) If you don't like it, or find you never use it, you can go into the menus and remove that from the list of "active" screens: Setup Menu>>Page Sequence>>Remove -RenHoek Thanks. I think it is pretty useless without the graphics. I found how to remove it. I was just wondering if the reason it did not have a map associated with it was that I had the wrong setup or the wrong software.
  5. thanks, I have another question, on my unit, 76CSx I have a page for street nav. it looks similar to what i have seen other units do that show the streets from the view of like you are driving, not top down view. I am ot sure what to do with this page if anything.
  6. When you select the CityNav NT Maps, make sure you check the box "include route calculation data". Also keep in mind that there are some combinations of maps that will hit the 2,025 segment with only 1GB, especially if the mix is heavy on Topo. No, i used the GPS unit not a card reader. Where is that setting that you are talking about. Yes I am heavy on TOPO. I dont have city Nav NT. I have city Nav US and TOPO USA and a few others. Edit.... OK i found that box and its greyed out. I have a 76CSx
  7. I just got off the phone with tigergps.com and they said that TOPO 2008 arrived today at their warehouse and it will ship to those who preordered it today!!
  8. CityNav NT (all 50 US states, Canada, and Puerto Rico) takes up 63 segments and about 950 MB US Topo (all states east of the Mississippi) takes up about 1970 segments and about 470 MB. So your 2GB card can hold all North American roads, and most of US topo maps east of the Mississippi. As for the 128 MB card, I suggest you keep it for experimenting. I've used my 64 MB card to test custom topo maps I compiled using goverment data and several third party freeware packages. I tried to fill my 2GB card up with maps and i got to a point where i could not put any more maps and it still had plenty of space left on the card, over 1GB. I have Garmin 76CSx. maybe i am doing something wrong?
  9. dude, where do you live. i have a half priced books here in phoenix and i will check them. I visit TX alot.
  10. I pre-ordered mine from TogerGPS for $89.99
  11. I use National Geographic TOPO. I have not tried delorme. National Geographic State version has 5 levels of map detail. Level 5 being 1:24000. I have AZ (6 CDs). I also purchaced the US version that has 1:100,000 for the entire US. It is only $75 at REI and that is a great buy. It's 18 CDs. I highly reccommend getting both since if you get the state version it will give you the max detail. Remember one thing when purchacing. This software can only load your POI onto maps and send POIs, tracks and routs with no icons to the GPS. it cannot send maps to the unit. you will need your garmin SW for that. But for printing out maps or making pdfs to share with others it is outstanding.
  12. I use a Garmin 76CSx and i love it. well...after i got used to it being upside down.
  13. Just got off the phone with TigerGPS - they say it will ship next week. The first one to recieve their copy, please make a post when it arrives.
  14. Is there an update as to when it will be released. I preordered mine at tigergps.
