  1. I used to be able to click on the map on any geocache page and it would open another map. from that map all nearby geocaches could be seen. now that does not work anymore. is it just me or is that a new feature. I really liked how it used to work. I hope this is a temporary thing.

    thx

Welcome to the group, and welcome to geocaching.

I am in the sw phx area. AZgeocaching.com is pretty lame. no recent updated material that i found.

  4. New laptop using Windows Vista? There are several other threads here on problems with GPS software & Vista. Be sure you have the latest versions / updates of the software. Vista is a mess.

I honestly think the probem is Vista. MS has a huge mess on its hands with Vista. XP worked so they might as well replace it with something that sucks as bad as vista

  5. OK I dont really know what happened about why the body of my post is not here but.....

Topo 2008 has more waypoint icons, specifically the ones for hunting. you can see them with mapsource but not on the unit. does anyone know how to get them on my unit. I tried to add them as custom wp icons but i cant find them.

    thx

I have the 60CSx which is the same as yours except for the box. I view the exact waypoint symbols in the GPSr as in MapSource. In fact, I use several of the hunting icons and they display as advertised in the unit.

There is no specific setting that I'm aware of. Perhaps a call to Garmin is in order....

You can use the ones that say tracks and blood trails etc.. ??

OK i just got off the phone with tech support and they confirmed that those wymbols are not available on the unit, only the desktop. ... which sucks. ;)

  8. I would buy either the Edge or a Foretrex / Forerunner. They are as small as a bike counter, so a fall wouldn't damage them.

And the Edge 205 and 305, the Forerunner 205 and 305 have SiRF III.

But none of the current Edge or Forerunner series have the ability to upload maps. The new 705 series will have that ability but is not due out for sometime.

do you lave a link for the 705 series?

thanks to everyone for your help

  9. Hi

I am looking for a GPS for my Mountain. I already have a 76CSx but it it too big and bulky and i dont want to damage it on the trail. I have been using it but putting it in my camelback. I would like one mounted on my handle bars. Yes I know they make a mount for my 76CSx. I am looking for a small one that i can still upload my track data to my comp and would be campatable with the software I already own (topo2008). So it has to be a garmin and one that can upload maps to. I dont care if it is color but that would be ok too.

    thanks

    :(

  10. Yep.

You have to priotize the map and the areas, because sure like hell you will go over the size limit (2G) or the segment limit (2025).

OK I am ready to whipe it out and start over. How do I clean the card and start over? I just saved my .gdb file and backed up everything to a file when using it as a mass storage device so do i just format the card or is there a way to d it from the unit? ;)

When you compile your next map set and send it, the current one will be overwritten.

I was just told by someone else to whipe it clean and start over because of the problems I described earlier. Also, one of my map files is called ", , Aug 2007" I have to scroll about 30 times to scroll past it in the setup screen on the unit and i have 420 segments installed and it crashes when i try to add more.

  12. With CityNavigator you can fit the entire US, Canada, and Puerto Rico on a 2GB card. With CityNavigator NT you can fit all of that on a 1GB card. It's the TOPO maps that are killing you. TOPO has about 27 gajillion map segments. (Obvious exaggeration but....) You will need to decide how much of CityNavigator you need and how much of TOPO you need and select all of those segments and load them all at once.

I only have AZ and small parts of MN, MO, TX & CA, and all of RI&CT for TOPO2008. I think i just need to buy City 2008 and try again.
