  1. I have decided to disable two of my caches that are on the cache machine route. GC1GBVB - Letters From the Sky: this cache is at a viewpoint that almost always has cars parked at it. I'm worried that a large number of cachers will point out the cache location to non cachers. GCE3A0 - The Itty Bitty Island Cache: this cache is in an area that is sensitive due to native plants. A few people here and there isn't so bad, but not a bunch at once. Thanks for understanding.
  2. Ah. That's a bit different. Unfortunately, I haven't had the pleasure of finding that sort of tree cache. I was thinking more along the lines of climbing a smaller tree and finding a cache maybe 10-15 feet up it:
  3. I have mixed feeling about this. On one hand, I feel like higher terrain caches are intended to be found that way by each cacher. But then on the other hand, I feel like it's a bit silly if you have a group of five people and each one climbs up, signs the cache, climbs down, another climbs up, signs the cache, climbs down, etc. "On the other hand...NO! THERE IS NO OTHER HAND!" - Tevye
  4. I knew that, it just struck me as funny. I could hear Joe Pesci in that movie in the diner asking about grits. Ok. "I've just actually never seen a grit before."
  5. Well, that brings up a whole 'nuther question.... <in My Cousin Vinnie's voice> "What's a suss?" There is such a thing called google. I thought it was a more well known word, but I guess not. I've visited Australia a couple times, and I watch a lot of British/Australian/New Zealand stuff, so maybe that's why I know it. It just means to figure something out, or solve a problem.
  6. What's a resuss? It's when you try to suss something for a second time.
  7. I didn't get one, so I assume it was sent only to people that are signed up to get the newsletter or promotions. I consider those spam, too. I'm subscribed to both, but I didn't get a DNF email from Groundspeak today.
  8. Alaska has been on my bucket list for places to visit for a long time. A road trip would be fun but I'd also consider taking a cruise. I've only found caches in 29 states and had previously visited 7 others before I started geocaching. Conversely, before I started geocaching I had only visited 2 countries outside the US but have visited 29 since. A cruise would be fun, too. I'd love to do both!
  9. I've been to all 50 states, but I've cached in only 39 of them (plus D.C.). Just came back from an anniversary trip to Hawaii (which was our 50th state)! If things end up happening like they look like they'll be happening, I should finish up the mainland in the next two years. Then, all that will be left will be a roadtrip to Alaska!
  10. Twenty years from now, geocaching events will be like the meetings in the Kingsman movies, where everyone is wearing virtual reality glasses and sitting around a table to converse, although they are really all around the world. Sounds like an idea for a GIFF film.
  11. I see I can get away with a lot of stuff, if it takes you 12 years to notice the things I do to you.
  12. It was a nice surprise to see your picture from one of my caches used as your cover photo, thomfre! Thanks for the update, Groundspeak. More pictures, the merrier! I enjoyed looking through my geocaching photos to find a cover for my profile page. I'll probable update it often.
  13. It looks like a beautiful area. I'd be happy to find a cache there.
  14. It appears (to me) that the actually "vote" (submit) was only for the three above. The "suggestion" (geocaching) may simply be a future thing. Suggest geocaching, but you gotta vote for one of the three for now. What a rip-off.
  15. Hm, it said to type in a suggestion if it's not one of the icons on the page, but after typing in the suggestion, the submit button with not work. It only works if I click one of the icons.
  16. Well, I've seen a fair amount of newer cachers come in to threads like these over the years and say that they didn't realize that they could post in a more wordy manner. Perhaps they've mostly been doing park n grab nanos and all they see are TFTF logs. Not sure if putting down their mental acuity is the best route to go.
  17. Is 2017 almost over already??? How did that happen?
  18. I don't specifically believe in a young earth, but I don't agree with a lot of current geologic reasoning. But I understand that EC's are based on certain science, and I don't think that's the time for me to get into any arguments with the EC owner. So my EC answers align with the EC questions. This does not negate my own belief or understanding, but answers the questions posed in the manner that the EC owner expects. I guess some cachers feel that when logging an EC, it's a time to make a stand, and I can't really fault them for that decision. That would be a difficult situation for an EC owner. I agree with geodarts - if they seem to understand the lesson in the EC, even if they disagree about the science, I think they've met the spirit of the EC and should be allowed to log it. Each cacher's case would need to be taken on their own merit, however.
  19. But...that's the best hide in the world! I wish they were all that way. To me, the quintessential hide is an ammo can in a tree stump. Ahhhh.... And fortunately there are still a lot more tree stumps than ammo cans in the world so finding the cache isn't always a gimme. I like gimmes.

  21. I sometimes use my iphone but when I get down to about 30ft it just jumps around. Without a hint it makes it harder. So I will grab my gps and enter the coords. Yeah, I do that sometimes when I want to search better. Usually, the phone will eventually settle down, but it can take a while and be quite frustrating, especially when you don't have a lot of time.
  22. I don't hear anything because my app is sitting in the passenger seat and I'm using a GPS Yeah, I use a gps if I'm actually going out caching. I had just been to the dentist and wanted a stress reliever so I used the app to find the closest cache. It was just a drive by, but it was a tribute to someone I had known when I was younger and it made me nostalgic. Anyways, I use both app and gps depending on the situation.
  23. Ah, makes sense. I remember about the option now. I can't decide if I like the notification or not, so I haven't been bothered by it.
  24. Hm, I found a cache earlier this week, using the app. It was sitting on my passenger seat, and when I got close to the cache it made a notification sound.
  25. I got a cut and paste log once on one of my earthcaches about a numbers run and that they had replaced my log sheet. Exactly!
