  1. Three Nuvi's, Two 60csx, they all work great.

Complaint--Recently one of the little battery spring clip contacts broke off a 60csx. Called Garmin and was told "We dont fix them but will send you a refurb for $110"

OK you got me $110 for a 50 cent part. Now what are you gonna do with my old unit? Throw it away or fix it and get $110 for that one, hmmmm...

  2. OK, I have not been able to bring up My[Your] Profile page or search for a cache without freezing up this

old computer since this new thing began.

So I tried Firefox and it told me the computer is toooo old but suggested I try Opera. I went to it and it took about two minutes to download.

I am about as computer dumb as one could be. I don't want to jinx myself but my computer is now on steroids. Everything working so far and much faster than before.

I hope this machine won't blow up with the added horsepower.

    Windows 98----IE6

  3. Greetings,

I currently am borrowing a vista legend and when you use it for the most part the unit has to be level for it to work, or so it seems. With the 60CSX does it too have to be level or with the antenna such as it is, can it be in just about any position?

    Thanks!

Only needs to be level for compass.

  4. We have tested and confirmed a fix but we won't be able to release until next week due to some other fixes that need to be verified as well. We had hoped to get this individual fix out ASAP but were not able to do so. Thanks for your patience - we'll have the fix up as soon as we possibly can!

My apologies if I posted something outside of guidelines, I was only trying to help those like myself who could not go caching due to inability of reading cache pages.

I had no idea this would be considered an infraction.

    Thanks

  5. I have not noticed it on cache pages yet, thankfully, but just about everyones profile page I've looked at are all messed up on the left side of the page. IE6 Win xp....

Edit above, I just went back and looked at a bunch of previous finds, the left side of most cache pages are missing and unreadable.

This problem is on most of my geocache pages. Cool weather is here and it's time to get out and hike, so lets get this thing fixed PLEASE. Can't do much caching without coords

  6. I am not sure how to properly explain the issue but many cache listings I try to view seem to go outside the margin and get cut off, it's like viewing half a page, (left margin is missing or the ad covers part of the page) wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? (noticed this since Friday)

I get the same thing with left side of some pages not all blocked off. Now for probably a dumb question, whats IE 6?

  7. Turned it on and just the upper left hand portion of the screen has ANYTHING showing and what is there is tiny and un readable. Any help appreciated I need this thing back in working order to help at work fighting fires here in No California. THANKS Tried the hard reset (menue/enter buttons while turning on) did no good........

I had issues with my 60csx and the fix was to bend the prongs for the batteries out a bit to get a better connection. Cant hurt to try it.

  8. I suggest you do the update, but pull your SD card out first. It is a good way to avoid glitches in the update.

OK, I pulled the sd card, reloaded Updater and ran it. Still came up with 3.60 and 2.40.

So I called Garmin and their tech support spent a good 45 minutes with me and now I am up to speed with 3.60 and 3.00

So thanks to Garmins great customer service and all the help I recieved here, my 60csx is working better than ever.

What could be next? Maybe a Colorado?

    Thanks Again

  9. I just purchased a Vista HCx which is already on its way back to Garmin with no red arrow, bearing or distance info. After pouring though the forums to try to fix it on my own it seems the newest update might have something to do with it, as many people seem to be saying that they are losing the arrow right after the update. I updated mine before I did anything with it, so I don't know if it worked prior, but IMHO and experience if everything else works properly 99.9999999999999% of the time it is a software issue.

I never did an update, the software version was the same as when I bought the unit in Feb 06. It always worked so well I did`nt want to mess with it. So the arrow and distance problem was the battery posts as Storm180 said.

Sometimes it`s just the simple stuff we overlook.

  10. My two year old 60csx decided to act up.

Waypoint---Go To and no red arrow on compass and no Distance to Next.

I could live without the compass arrow but not knowing the distance to a cache is NG. I did the software upgrade which is now 3.60 and 2.40 and did the hard reset----still NG

Before I send it to Garmin and pay 150 bucks with only a 90 day warranty on the refurb they will send me I am open to any ideas

    Thanks

I am not sure if your issues happened before you upgraded or not but my red compass arrow kept dissappearing on me on my way to the cache. I checked some of the forums and it looks like the battery would lose connection or only have a low power connection causing the arrow to vanish. The clips that hold the battery got bent to far back and caused this issue. So I took the advice and bent out the connectors and put a piece of foam on top of the batteries in the unit and its been ok ever since.

    Storm180

Storm180 Thanks you hit the nail right on the head. The battery posts looked ok and the batteries seemed tight but I bent then out some and all is good--red arrow and data fields are back.

Thanks for the other replies also, I will try and get the chipset software updated to 3.00.

  12. I have a 60Csx but I am looking around for a unit for the car. Since I have a number of Garmin map disks I am leaning torward buying another Garmin for the Car.

What I would like in features is:

    1. Turn By Turn Voice directions with speaking of street names

    2. Color easy to read Touch Screen

    3. Easy enough for my wife to also use.

I'd like to find the lowest cost one of course as well but with the above feautures.

Any suggestions or comments would be helpful

I use a Garmin 650 in the car and then my 60csx on foot. The 650 does exactly what you want and I think they are under 300 now. Great unit.

  13. i am ready to buy my first car gsp unit. been thinking of a garmin 350 or larger screen 750. i am 70 yrs old and my hearing and sight is not the best. would use the unit once in awhile. appreciate any suggestions. thanks .

I have been using a Nuvi 650 for a couple of months now and am 100% happy with it. Easy to use, see and hear. The xtras on models 660 and above were all useless to me---Bluetooth etc.

  14. Leaving for Canada on Friday and I just looked up waypoints for all

the places I will be staying. 2 of the places, I am unable to convert

the waypoints to a format I understand.

    One of them is N52.53.28168 W118 4.68228

    The other is N51 7.8432 W114 0.50136

Can anyone tell me how to convert this?

Also, I am using the Garmin 60CSx. Do I have to change any settings on

it while I am in Canada?

    Thanks!!

Just did a fishing trip to Quebec in June and also some geocaching with a 60csx. Did`nt change anything, just used it like I do here.

  15. I'm new to geocaching and already hooked. I got a Magellan 200 for Father's Day and already want to upgrade, scary. I'm looking at the etrex Legend Vs. Vista and I'm wondering if the electonic compass is worth it. I'm also considering waiting on the HCx to come out any suggestions?

    Scott

I have only one gps, a 60csx and use the compass all the time. Batteries last all day.

  16. I hope I am posting this in the appropriate forum...

I could use some information on which website is the best for purchasing my first GPS unit.

I have visited sites like "GPS Now" and "Mega GPS" etc. Are there others that are better ?

-Does anyone have any recommendations on a specific site ?

    -I am trying to buy a GPS unit "bundled" with some accessories for a low price {of course}

-I am thinking of buying the Garmin Etrex Legend C or Legend CX.

-The primary uses for my GPS unit will be Geo-caching / fishing / traveling etc.

    Thank You In Advance

    GU
