  1. Well at least I took the time to put something other than tftc which is what most of the logs are nowadays. I would sooner have a log says that the cache was not enjoyed and I would be better spending my time whistling the birdy song, than TFTC oh how I hate those. they are the biggest insult. If you take the time to do a cache the least you can do is write something on the log page. If you don't like a cache, please have the guts to say so. I can take it. If I got enough I would archive it. Not because of hurt feelings but because I would feel that it was not a good cache if people did not like it. In my book two or three words mean you did not like it and it does not deserve your time or effort to write about it. Now why do I feel a lot of logs that say tftc. Oh and by the way in my class at school, my mates were Fatty Clark. Tucker, Fat At,Hogger and the class was called the heavy brigade by the teachers. So for goodness sake lighten up. Lighten up, Get it.(: No I guess not.
  2. @Dave from Clanton. Your cache was a clever idea, we have used this format ourselves twice.People who have found only magnets stuck to a sign will never find the one you put out. To everyone else who puts a magnet on a sign, and a cache by the roadside, remember what you sow, you reap. For every cache you put out like this, there will be at least 10 who think this is what caching should really be like and duplicate you cache. Do the maths, how long will it be before a GPS is not needed to find roadside caches. You will get what you deserve, and deserve what you get.
  3. Its time sign post caches went the way of virtual caches( which were a damm sight better.) You don't need a GPS to find Caches just look on any sign post you pass and there will be a magnetic micro or macro even in the wilds of Northumberland. This hobby has now sunk to the depths that I predicted a number of years ago. On a bike ride this weekend the best cache we did we did not find. the rest were nanos/micros most stuck on signs where anyone with a bit of imagination could have placed a decent cache somewhere close by. Is this type of cache set by fat lumps who cannot walk more that a few feet. My guess is they are.
  4. Try Bikely.com cycle routes from all over the world have been uploaded including Sustrans routes. You can import the routes into your memory map software. Its also FOC, so will save anyone buying the Memory Map Sustrans routes which sound pretty naff. You can also see other routes around your area which can be a lot more interesting than the Sustrans routes. I have downloaded a couple of the Sustrans routes from this site as well as other rides that people have done, and ridden them, following my GPS. The search engine is fairly easy to find the routes that you want. However the site seems to be down at the moment. Edit to add:- Its back up now.
  5. Sorry, I only know it as a sort of saying. When the dog lets off a Windy Miller and one of us goes Peeeeeuw my wife sometimes follows up with the rest.(She used to watch it) If its unanswered by tonight perhaps she will know. I was hoping they were in order. Could the first two be Pugh and Pugh (is it spelt that way then ?) Hells teeth how do you tell em apart anyway?
  6. A sport needs to have a winner and some losers. So perhaps somebody who is dedicated to be the first to find could consider it a sport, other than that its a just a pastime, like walking the dog or shopping. Skiing is a sport, but I don't compete so its a recreational hobby for me. An Olympic walker can walk faster than most people can run. The qualifying time for a 20k (12.42 miles) walk is around 1:23 In the the Great North Run (13.1 miles) the world record holder at walking would be around the first 150 finishers, and perhaps even higher in the placings.
  7. In Dads army Godfrey's sister Dolly made only a few appearances, but who was the actress married to in real life.
  8. Would it be correct then that the last post is played for only the allied dead and not the Germans? If this is the case I am not sure how many died on each side so halving it and making some adjustment and rounding up lets say 2700
  9. I think I recall that around half a million died at Ypres. It sounds to shocking to be true though. Perhaps disease accounted for quite a number of them. So if its this figure then 502008 There is a story in a book I have about a young man who lied about his age and was made an acting sergeant at 16. I would not give a 16 year old water pistol today let alone be in charge of a group of men with guns. Sugar misread the question once per day not year. So 3377
  10. If it was our satellites, our game, our, web site, our forum and our top man, and one of them did that to our top man. would the view be different I wonder? SP did say that he had been warned not to poke the bear with even the bluntest of sticks. He went and got a big one, sharpened it to a point and went and poked the biggest bear in the pack, and everyone is shocked that the bear roared and kicked him hard. I have no point of view on this it is just an observation. Our forum has Dutch masters who let us use their space and sometimes our members over step the mark in attacking the company. One member has done something very close to what SP did and they have let him get away with it, for a long time. nothing has been said. However it was not a picture of the man in question, and it was altered slightly. not a direct copy.
  11. Don't suggest this on the main forum. I did Apparently this has been suggested many more times than once or twice before. The US forums are very quick to let you know this. I guess its not something that is going to be implemented soon if at all.
  12. You will their listing the winners on the site soon. Congratulations to the ones who have already been notified. Sometimes you do get something for nothing
  13. I think the topic has its merit but had degenerated to... well no need to say more. I am very pleased to see it has been closed. It was the right decision. Thanks.
  14. You have such a good way of twisting every thing like the good swimmer point. The point was she would not go on a low diving board even though she is a good swimmer. Likewise she would not risk falling in. I have had enough now.
  15. I think most folks have a rough idea of what they are letting themselves in for and have read some/most of the page. Say you were walking near to Ben Nevis and you knew there was a cache up there would you think "oh theres a cache a little way up here we will just stroll up in our flip flops shorts and t-shirts" I dont think so A foot bridge on a footpath by the river Weir hardly constitutes Ben Nevis does it.
  16. Ok you got the cache pot into your hands, but you did not do it the way the cache setter asked for it to be done, if you had the cache page in your hands all the requirements for logging the cache were on that sheet, you did not use the correct equipment and you did not take a photograph so you did not complete the cache the way the setter wanted it to be completed. So your log was deleted, end of.... And end of a perfectly good cache... We had no idea what was required and we did take a photo as I stated, but did not upload it. Your log stood without one. We would have uploaded one later or if asked to. OK then Log deleted as it states on the Cache page I agree. But great delight it seemed, was taken in making it the end of a perfectly good cache at our expense instead. We will carry on caching by the rules if the rules of the cache say our log is to be deleted so be it. We know we did it. But the rules did not say the cache would be archived and whoever did it the wrong way would be made a scapegoat for the cache being removed forever. I was not our fault, we found it by chance did it easy (which I suspect upset the apple cart a bit) and logged it. The response was OTT but that's up to the setter, but blaming us is not.
  17. OK Please explain to the people who set these caches how they are to get this information onto an icon on a GPS. I could set a cache that is very dangerous and set up the page that tells everyone in very large letters not to do this cache without fire fighting respirators, but this would not be of any use whatsoever if cacher downloaded the caches in bulk and was passing the cache and decided to do it. How can you possibly impose restrictions unless there is a sign clearly stating them at the cache site. maybe this is just a purely a matter of resposibility - if the setter was resposible enough to put warnings on the page the person going after the cache should be resposible enough to take note the warnings and any instructions and/or requirements - to go after a cache without doing homework and knowing what the cache involves and what is required to log the cache is irrisponsible - I won't attempt a cache without having a good idea of what to expect Please do not avoid the issue here how is an icon on a GPS unit giving anyone all this information. An icon on a GPS is just an icon. Its a little chest on mine for all unfound caches, caches that we have found are open chests. So can everyone honestly say that they have never looked for a cache that they have not looked up the details for. Has anyone ever spent 20 minutes looking for a cache only to get home to find it was a multi. When you walk over the top of a cache you tend to be a bit curious. We were down in York the other week and found a cache that was not planned but only a few feet from the walk we were on. Muggle This was not like it was on the top of a mountain or in some inaccessible place, it was on a footpath bridge, on the way to another Cache. We had printouts for three that day, Steely Dee, Nicky Nack and get it from H2O5 we passed close to another we did not have a print out for, but it was dark and did not bother to look. My wife got his cache in less than a minute and with no danger at all. She is a good swimmer but would not even jump off a low diving board at the baths and never takes risks. She will only go up a ladder if there are two people holding it and its tied at the top. If she got it it was easy for her and no danger, rest assured. I could not however have got the cache without taking a lot of risks, I was too big to fit under the bottom railing and I would have had to use ropes and cargo straps that I had back in the car. I bet I would have ended up in horrible murk. Back to the point you cannot guarantee that people will read the cache page, it is not a requirement for looking for a cache. So when setting a cache you have to be aware of this. Just for the record The Spokes are not whining in any way that their log was deleted. We did it and did take a Photo and did notice that others had not uploaded photos so this was thought to be OK. If asked we would have uploaded the photo and if unacceptable we would have accepted the log as deleted and moved on. As you can see we are not a numbers team. We can take it.

  19. I have no idea but when in a pub quiz team I can sometimes jog someone else to the right answer. A lot of these terms like I'm stumped and knocked for six come from cricket. Perhaps it is some other sporting term. Real tennis, Croquet, Polo. or even a board game like back gammon cribbage., or clutching at straws
  20. Captain Blood Ding Errol Flynn Ding China Seas Da Durr, A clue A classic true tale of the high seas. Think about it and your bound t get it.
