  1. I've been presented with a unique option for starting a geocoin on a "world tour". I'd like input/advice of expirienced cachers before I persue this particular route.

I'm in Canada, a seller in the U.S. will sell me (via PayPal) a new, un-activated coin; he keeps the coin and emails me the codes. He'll then "grab" the coin once I activate it and place it into a cache where he lives. I would avoid shipping costs and the delay of shipping/caching the coin here. Not to mention that the coin will have already "travelled" more than 2000 miles. Heck, maybe it will even find its way here in time.

Is this something that is widley practised or should I avoid it like the Bubonic Plague?

    Thoughts?

    Recommendations?

    Advice?

    Howdy......

If you buy it,it should be in YOUR POSSESSION! I would not do it!

  2. First - you do the hard reset w/ the unit off. Next, make sure that the enter "stick" remains centered while pushing the other two buttons - that is the tough part of this procedure. It may help to have someone hold the unit steady on a table while you push the buttons.

For the info, click the setup icon on the menu screen. Select the system icon. Push the menu button on the left of the unit. Scroll down to software version and press the enter button.

I was just wondering this same thing earlier today, looks like you hold the PAGE-ENTER-POWERON buttons at the same time. That's the 2 buttons on the right plus holding the stick straight down. If you do it right, it will pop up a window saying "Do you really want to erase all user data? YES NO" I haven't actually performed the hard reset on mine yet, because I don't feel like reentering ALL my caches and waypoints and stuff. But I'll see if my recent upgrade/downgrade works well (went from 2.6/2.6 to 2.7/2.3).

    Howdy......

I tried it that way before and it didn't work.....

    BUT IT DID THIS TIME....THANKX!

On a side note, can anyone tell me how you see what your firmware version is? I know how to see that I have software version 2.7 installed, but I want to double-check that I actually did do the firmware downgrade to 2.3 like I wanted to do.

    Howdy......

I have tried this several times with NO success.

    What am I doing wrong????

    Where's th' new grandchild cache?

Congrats Vern, they are fun. I have 5 grandkids. Yes you will have to start a grandkid cache series now that I am done. :):):):):D:D

    Howdy......

The Grandkid cache IS going to happen...

  5. When I had a 60CSx I loaded my caches as both caches and POI's. Each had slightly different information on them and I could get a lot of information on the gps. I think I had the GC#, difficulty, terrain type and size as the geocaching information. In the POI I had the name of the cache and as much of the clue that would fit in the comment section.

    Howdy......

    I will try that.......

  6. 0002013F.gif Rumor has it that Harmon is one away from 40000002013F.gif

We talking caches, or his age? :D

Sorry Harmon, couldn't resist. You da man, I only wish I could hike the places you do if I ever approach your young age.

:D:DThat is AMAZING!! You go Harmon? Need another rest stop now? Congrats!

Thanks all, I appreciate your support.

Jodi's Rest Stop for Harmon was almost my last find. Fell

face down into a pile of rocks from a stable standing position.

I suspect that my fall was Janie's fault but I can't prove it.

I've been saving #4,000 until Sandy is able to be with me. Thing

is that she spent the past week in Arizona with her mother and

her sisters. Imagine ... that close but no cigar until she returned.

Maybe today with Sandy but certainly not on a mountain-top due

to her rebuilt big toe that's coming along nicely but still mending.

Finally I owe most of my find-count to the Geobabes and since

those days to my super hiking pal Janie of Splashette fame.

Janie badgered me up more mountain trails than I can recall.

My final push toward 4,000 included Guatay Mountain, Mt. Wood-

son, Mt. Miguel, Sweetwater Reservoir, north of the fifty-two,

and most recently Barber Road. Thank you all for the many hides

    on county power trails.

My only regret is that 4,000 finds aren't even half of what is

respectable in San Diego County. I suppose that tagging along

behind Geocaching super-stars is the best that an old man can

    hope for.

    Your pal,

    Harmon

p.s. I've started a list of local Geocachers that haven't expressed

congratulations for my amazing feet. Oops, make that feat.

    Howdy......

    CONGRATS!
