  1. My bug "Berlin Bound" arrived at it's goal … Berlin. A cacher friend was visiting Berlin and agreed to pick it up and bring it to me so that I could start it out again on it's travels to Berlin for a second time. I contacted the German cacher who was holding it and arranged that he would leave it in a cache for my friend to pick up. This worked and I now have the bug but I want to place it in a new cache I am planting and it is still listed as being in the possession of the German guy's girl friend. The next two entries are the German guy and my friend they are both listed as "discovered". How do I handle this the easiest so that it shows up in my possession here in Washington State and I can place it in my new cache to start its journey over again?? Best Wishes, ECO Trekkers
  2. Any advice as to where I can get some advice about this unit and it's operation?
  3. Great, thanks so much! Forums like this are an amazing and invaluable tool!
  4. We had a German High-school exchange student living with us the past 7 months and got her hooked on Geocaching! Now she has returned to Germany :-( and is not able to login at Geocaching .com. I suspect it has something to do with her choose of username. Her user name is Marienkäfer. On my keyboard to create the "a" with the umlait she had to use the keystroke combination of option-u to create the umlait then type the "a" resulting in ä. Now that she is back in Germany she has a keyboard that has an ä. She has tried it numerous times with no luck yet I have no trouble doing it from my computer. How can we resolve this dilemma? TIA,
  5. Good point, thanks! I can't figure out how to move this one there so I'll just post again there!

  7. When two Geocachers find a cache jointly how is it logged? Can we both get credit for the find?
  8. I have a Geko 301 and use one of those holsters which strech around the unit and grip it then clips to your belt. Does that holster interfere with the signal?
  9. I have a fellow cacher who has a really great multi-cache and wants me to take it over as he is making a long term move to the other side of the country. Is there an "official" way to transfer the ownership of the cache to me?
  10. Is that aluminum or stainless steel I wonder?
  11. Really enjoyed the web page! Thanks for doing it!!
  12. Which NAD 27 setting should I use on my Geko 301 when working with a USGS 7.5 Topo in Washington State? I used the "NAD 27 Alaska" and it seemes to be very close but there are some NAD 27 settings which I could not make out the abreveations. TIA, Zinger
  13. My Garman Geko 301 is new to me and my first GPS. I've bought it for map making and GeoCaching. My main interests are to mark waypoints and find waypoints. Yesterday on a snowshoe trip I played with the Trackback feature for the first time. The GPS keeps guiding you from one "bread crumb" to the next. The distance between "bread crumbs" varied from 0.26 miles to 250'. It seemed to depend on how straight or curvy my track was. If I'm understanding correctly what's happening the GPS is creating waypoints along the track and spacing them closer or farther apart depending on how straight or curvy your track is. If this is the case can you adjust the sensitivity? By that I mean how often it creates waypoints along the track? Also does anyone have any comments on the difference between tracks and routes? I haven't quite sorted out the best uses for each yet.
  14. Thanks for the tip, I'm going to check it out now! Macs rock!!
  15. I'm all set up to download waypoints but when I click Download Waypoint I get taken to the Download Waypoints page which acknowlages that have already agreed or I download a .asp file rather then a .loc file. What's up??
  16. Thanks for the replys! The links lead me here: http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/wgarmin.htm Lots of good materal here! The PDF from the Garmon site is just what I got with the Geko on paper.
  17. The manual that came with my Geko is OK but very basic. Does anyone know of any more advanced manuals or online tutorials?
  18. Sorry, hope it works this time!
  19. Thanks for the tips, that's all it took to get me in gear to post an avatar.
  20. Great old photos! web page
  21. We've had this topic posted in "discussions" for ages and had no feedback and am hoping this is a better forum to post it in. We would like to make a cache in which we would place newsletters and brochures for our non-profit organization [Summit Assistance Dogs The way we see it working is a geocacher would read about our cache, find it, take an information packet, fill o ut the log book and leave nothing or maybe trade some small dog toys. Later they can log their fi nd at Geocaching.com then read through the information and decide wether ar not to donate to our organization. This could start a whole new genre of geocaching, "Cache with a Conscience"... has a nice ring to it, adds a social responsibility aspect to the sport. To learn more about what Summit Assistance Dogs does to enrich the lives of dogs, youth and folks with disabilities read this news article. I'm looking forward to finding out if you all feel this is in the spirit of this great sport and if we will be allowed to place a cache like this. Thanks!!! 22. I can imagine a graphic that would represent the relationship of distance/elevation gain or loss so you could determine the difficulty with a glance.n
