  2. Yay for better swag! I love leaving swag and though I've never taken anything, I always leave as many things as will fit into the cache so the next people find something fun. I have a huge swag box here at home with everything in individual zip lock bags. I'm such a swag nerd! Here is what's in my box at the moment: Carabiner clips Waterproof torches 4 x aa batteries in coloured plastic storage boxes Mini compasses Mini binoculars Mini harmonicas (sorry parents) Mini rubicks cubes Metal puzzles Scrabble tile necklaces in plastic bubbles Hair clips Badges/buttons - various Iron on patches - various Ummm I can't think of what else. I love swag!
  3. Sorry, I wasn't being clear, I didn't mean caches that I had found after a dnf, but that other people had found, so I can differentiate between caches that may have been muggled/abandoned and ones I was just too dense to find. ie: I would try those ones again, but wouldn't revisit one that hadn't been found by anyone since.
  4. I've posted a few times so I don't know if I'm technically a lurker. I cache with my husband and our 15 month old daughter. We live in Australia at the moment, though just moved back after 2 years in New Zealand. Of our little geocaching family, I'm definitely the addict, we only have 16 smilies so far but I'm hooked! Unfortunately there aren't many caches in our area so pretty soon we'll run dry! Guess we'll just have to move on again when that happens!
  5. You can get the iPad 2 with 3G and wifi, but as mentioned the iPad doesn't have an inbuilt gps so it's MUCH less accurate than the iPhone or a GPSr. The Groundspeak geocaching app is the same as the iPhone app - there isn't a HD version for the iPad so you just get the small screen version that you can 2x to fit the screen. IMO you technically COULD geocache using an iPad but it's not ideal. It's not really a good size to take with you in the field, I'd be concerned about damaging it. The gps is only ok and you can get way better in much more convenient devices, you'd probably draw more muggle attention to yourself as well.
  6. I think this is a great idea. Especially if there is a way to differentiate between dnf caches that haven't been found since and those that have.
  7. We didn't find anything our first time out either, mostly because we were using the gps more than our eyes, my advice is to let the gps get you close and then put it away. There isn't a trick, but like most things, you'll get better the more you do it.
  8. I'd love something like this in my area, as long as it was a relatively flat course, I'm not good on hills. I'd also like to have some kind of indication of how far away from my car i'm likely to end up, we geocache with a 15mth old so we have to carry different things depending on how far away we get. Other than that it sounds like an excellent way to explore a new city!
