Any else getting of the stupid placement hoops
Chameleon Circuit replied to FireCacher's topic in General geocaching topics
The standards are far too low now. quote:I'm probably stepping on lots of toes, but someone needs to tell the emperor he has no clothes. This is out of hand, cache placement is critical to the survival of this game, if the cache meets the rules posted on this site, then it should be approved. Who cares if the cache is 20ft, 200ft, or 2000ft from another cache? Maybe it is a cache rich area. If you want to find something to pick up every ten feet, join a litter patrol, because that's what 75% of caches are... dump and run garbage in nondescript locations. I think more people leave the game because they have grown tired of finding the typical barely hidden box of junk. [This message was edited by GeoPrincess on December 31, 2002 at 10:58 AM.] -
"Don't get caught" caching idea...
Chameleon Circuit replied to Sissy-n-CR's topic in General geocaching topics
Someone will steal these things right after they were logged by someone they hold a grudge against. Deleting legitimate finds would probably subject any other caches you have placed or place in the future to an unhappy fate. In a later post you said you want people to log their find as a note until someone else logs a note. That's preposterous. -
How come everyone else is always subjected to these stupid little p*ss*ng matches? Why post notes to twenty or more caches when the issue could have been addressed with one e-mail to a site administrator?

All they would have to do is rate the cache 3.5 or higher and that would automatically limit the total number of visitors to fewer than 6, because everyone knows that 99.9% of geocachers are lazy couch potato wimps.

Fear not! The Garmin Legend Rocks!

Geocaching should be banned in Germany.

quote:The Vista has a electronic compass, and a better screen, plus if you are a garmin fan the rubber band map page. Garmins seem to be able to handle tons of waypoints being stored better than the Sport track. (Less screen clutter) That's one of the options you can set on the Vista. You can clutter your screen up really good with the maximum detail displayed.

The REAL Leaderboard
Chameleon Circuit replied to Chameleon Circuit's topic in General geocaching topics
quote:Originally posted by jogps:I have a question for GeoPrincess why would you want to ask all of these questions under a different log in name? Geocaching and the Leaderboard count them the same way . What questions? I reorganized the Top 25 Leaderboard to reflect finds of actual caches. I didn't change any numbers. All I did was subtract the number of hides and locationless caches from the total. This name represents me. I made the list. My partner did not. The name we cache under represents both of us. Clear? quote:What is your motive other than to try mess with every body heads that has worked very hard to get where they are at. What's your problem? I wanted to see what the leaderboard would look like without hides or locationless caches included. That's all. I thought it might interest others. I see that your position on my list is the same as on the regular leaderboard even without your 108 locationless finds. -
Condoms in caches: A good/bad idea?

I don't think it is appropriate, but what is everyone getting bent about? How would a little kid know what a wrapped condom was? -

G.P.S. in the News
Chameleon Circuit replied to GEO*Trailblazer 1's topic in General geocaching topics
There was an article in our local newspaper last week that certain brands of marine TV antennas are known to interfere with GPS reception. The article didn't mention the brands; it just recommended that you should turn off the power to the marine TV antenna and see if GPS reception improves. The article said if GPS reception improved, the owner should contact the manufacturer of the TV antenna. -

quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat:I think hides are legitimately included in the leader stats. Heck, if it weren't for those who like to hide caches, there wouldn't be any for us to find. That's so true. I think the Leaderboard should have a separate section devoted to Hides, so that the leading hiders could receive the recognition they are due. -
I was wondering how different the Leaderboard would look if hides and locationless caches were removed from the totals. Here's what I found: BruceS has left the CCCooperAgency in the dust. Name/RealFinds BruceS / 1416 CCCooperAgency / 1403 jogps / 1159 stayfloopy / 1092 Southpaw / 937 DLiming / 787 ShowMeTheCache / 758 BassoonPilot / 726 Team "Wyle E" / 693 geo13 / 693 FerosFamily / 681 Moun10Bike / 668 Team Sand Dollar / 653 wolfmann / 631 explosis / 596 ladybuggers / 572 oregone / 570 robertlipe / 569 The Lil Otter / 568 roadrunners / 552 Hazard / 546 georgeandmary / 537 RonStreeter / 532 Kevin & Susan / 515 barondriver / 480 CCCooperAgency does lead in the Locationless category, having claimed 180 Locationless finds. The Top 25 names on the Leaderboard average almost 50 locationless finds each. 4 of the Top 25 have claimed more than 100 Locationless finds. 8 have claimed 10 or fewer Locationless finds, including 3 (geo13, The Lil Otter, and wolfmann) who have claimed 0 locationless finds. Wow!
