  1. Hi! I agree. Hate it. Get rid of it. Worse than useless. I had an instructor who said that a sure sign of a geek is someone who tinkers with programs, makes changes to things that aren't wanted or needed, and then tells you how much you want his changes even tho it does absolutely nothing for you. The geek "knows" what is best because all he knows how to do is tinker but doesn't have the knowledge or marketing skills to ask the customer first. Sure sign of geeks in action again. Tinkering, making changes not asked for or needed, but, by golly!, you'll have the changes and darn well like em. Geez, you guys are harsh! And wrong. This change was a direct result of folks complaining about a problem and asking for improvements. One way to accomplish this would be to post surveys and talk about options for a year. Another way is to try something and see what happens. Asking the customer first is often a SURE way to get nothing done, because the customers often don't know what's possible. No, we are right! Just doing SOMETHING also isn't the right way to solve problems! There was a BIG discussion the time the new map came about the possibility of showing many caches on one page so this was implemented in the end and I guess that most of the people were happy in the end. If there are some people having problems with this right now doesn't mean that the others want to get this to be changed now. The "improvement" that might help those people is just annoying for many of us having a high speed line as we WANT to see all the caches on first sight! So why just don't have the option to chose if I want to see bubbles or not. That would be the professional solution to a problem that just is a problem for SOME people! And I just wonder why Groundspeak just isn't able to fix things on first try. Meant good not necessarily IS good... I hope to see the old version being back in the next hours/days or at least the option to turn off this annoying "feature". Bye, Christian
  2. Hi! I will only be satisfied if this option can be turned off as it makes absolutely no sense for me regardless how it is implemented. It simply just hides the information I want to see. Speed is no problem for me, blue bubbles are! And I still say that it is very unprofessional to do "improvements" that way. You can't really tell me that it would be impossible to have both map versions running at the same time allowing public testing without annoying people who don't like it. That way you would be able to test new features and make them work BEFORE adding them to the official site. Sorry to be that hard but that is exactly my opinion after being annoyed another time :-( Bye, Christian
  3. Hi! They do show less information ;-) I can't see all the caches with only one look on the map. So don't tell there's all the information on it :-) I want to see a large area with all the caches that are there and I don't want to see some blue areas showing me that there are SOME caches I even don't know what type they are. That's just annoying! If you're fine with this, o.k.! I am not! And I just want to have the choice. It worked o.k. for me in the last months and I want it back! I can't really work with the map as they behave right now :-( Bye, Christian
  4. Hi! While trying the new map I've found out that it shows a webcam cache that I already did even if if checked "Hide my finds". Please correct this error. Bye, Christian
  5. Hi! Again Groundspeak proved to be highly unprofessional :-( New "features" that can't be turned off and noone really thought about the people that are quite happy with how it was before. It's quite the same as last time as the new map appeared. Buggy at first try, buggy at second try and still buggy today. We were all treated like lab rats and I hat that :-( Sorry to be that hard but you seem not to be willing to learn out of your faults :-( I personally was at least fine with that status the map search had as of yesterday. Today it's a pain. :-( My default page just shows some blue areas, not what I expected to be shown. And it starts way too fast to be of any use for me. It would be o.k., if it starts at the moment where more than 500 caches should be shown, but that's it! Bye, Christian [Edited by moderator for potty language. Please post respectfully, or don't post.]
  6. Hi! 1. Windows Genuine Advantage prevents me from upgrading! I hate being treated as a possible robber or similar. 2. Why should I "upgrade"? Nothing I'm missing in IE6. It's more the other way round! Nothing I find better in IE7! Never change a running system... Bye, Christian
  7. Hi! After the last changes have been made I've found some new errors: 1. If you zoom out so far that you reach the maximum limit of caches allowed no new cache search will be done even if you zoom in again! 2. Showing the cache list still freezes the map! My system: Windows XP + IE 6 with all actual patches. Bye, Christian
  8. Hi! Some of the problems with the new maps have been fixed already but the biggest of them all is still there: The 15 miles limit As long as this is fact the new map still remain kind of useless in many areas around the world and make life much harder as it could be. Another problem still being there is the small size of the map. I own 2 24" displays and it would be nice to see the map at least in double hight as it can be shown right now. I understand that this might be hard as I think it also has something to do with the 15 miles limit in some way as a larger map means a larger area as well. Please do something here! bye, Christian
  9. Hi! No, it will be back. It's all related to the google maps issues we're having. I'm sorry, but what are you guys doing all the day long? I just wonder that all those errors still exist. They have been in the version you tried at first time. They still have been there in the version from last week. And they are still around in this version! The errors I wrote about in my previous messages are still there and this is still just annoying! I'm using a standard Windows XP with about all actual fixes installed. And I still use IE6. Another still default browser for about most of the users worldwide. So I just wonder why you are not able to find those errors prior to switching to this map version :-( And I also wonder why you guys just ignore the people that need to use the website. I am sure that I am not the only one who just doesn't like this kind of map. It has just about no feature that I missed before, it just has "features" that I don't want or need. I don't want a pop up list of the caches. I was very happy with a list at the side of the map. I wasn't happy with the old version not being able to know found caches on the 2nd to last page of the caches but that's another story. And I'm still very annoyed of not being able to get a HUGE map on my 24'' display. The older version at least had the ability of showing about 50% more in height. And I also hate this 15 miles limit that I can't really understand. I hate not being able to see the names of the caches shown. I hate that I still don't know which cache is which even if I see the cache listing. I hate that some features just lock up the map. I hate having this much checkboxes that just don't work. I hate those small icons for the caches. I hate being used as a "lab rabbit" instead of at least getting a working version on first try. One time this is acceptable but right now this is at least your 3rd try on the new maps and I was able to find those errors in just 5 minutes :-( I hope that you can understand me in some way and that the site will be useable again in the next hours, preferably by switching back to the old maps ;-) Bye, Christian
  10. Hi! New week, same old errors... Bye, Christian
  11. Hi! Didn't want to write it again. New week, same old error :-( What are you doing all the time? ;-) Bye, Christian
  12. Hi! Some more problems: 1. While using "Show Cache Listing" I've found out that it always shows all caches on the map. This includes "My Finds" even if I check the button to hide them. 2. Moving the map is impossible after clicking on a cache. 3. Clicking "Show Cache Listing" locks the map. 4. No more map preview for Pocket Queries. By the way: The maximum size of the map is just annoying ;-) Bye, Christian
  13. Hi! Sorry about complaining but this new version is still kind of less useful again. 1. My screen has a resolution of 1920x1200 and right now the map only uses about 40% of the hight. 2. No icons for Earth Cache and Mega-Event Cache on the list 3. After clicking on this blue balloon I am not able to further move the map Bye, Christian
  14. Hi! "Wrong" answer ;-) You're right that this was a nice feature in the new version of the GC website. But the time they switched to this version it was only half working so they they could do was switching back. The actual solution to this problem is just creating a pocket query that shows only the unfound caches in the surrounding area and to show the result on Google maps. This gives you the map the original poster wants to get. Bye, Christian
  15. Hi! Yet another issue: I enter a coordinate in the address field and click "Go". It moves the map but it doesn't reload the caches. Makes not too much sense, I think. Bye, Christian
  16. Hi! There's another nice to have: An option to filter out the temporarily unavailable caches. Should work similar to the "My finds" option. Bye, Christian
  17. Hi! I'm sorry to be that hard with the new map, but I definitely don't like it the way it is now. It wasn't best before, but way better than it is now... 1. My screen has a resolution of 1920x1200 but the map only used about have the possible hight. 2. Cache listing isn't resizeable. And it doesn't matter if I disable the already found or hidden caches. And I don't know what search order will be used in there, so it is really hard to find a cache in the list. 3. Moving the map with the mouse only works sometimes, not always. The same with clicking a cache. But maybe this was because cookies from google where blocked. 4. I hide my finds, move the map and there are my finds back again. The click box still ist marked, so they shouldn't be there... 5. What shall happen if I click one of the click boxes in Cache Type Legend? Who knows... 6. Now I don't know (see) of what type my already found caches where. I would be happy if at least the first two issues would be solved. Bye, Christian
  18. Hi! I'm American and I agree with you. It seems like a simple choice and the consequences of screwing up are obvious as well. Thank you :-) First I thought my answer might be much too harsh, but I hoped he will understand it in the end. It was quite similar to those warnings everywhere like not drying animals in a microwave or such things. Just all that stuff people could think about by theirselves if they just try a little bit ;-) Bye, Christian
  19. Hi! This question can only come from an American :-) People here in Europe would just laugh about such a question (and so I do, by the way, sorry ;-). YOU are the one to decide. YOU are the one to climb the tree or to just go home and log a DNF. So why should any other person should be responsible if YOU decide to climb and fail (or better FALL). Was there anyone standing there with a gun to get you climbing the tree? If so, blame him. If not just blame yourself... Sorry, if my answer is not what you've expected but again: We over here can only laugh about blaming others for personal fails. Bye, Christian
  20. Hi! I've found about 150 caches in the 10 miles area around my home and there are still 296 to find. Many of them are puzzles and I'm not sure if I can solve all of them ;-) But I definitely know that there are some caches I'll never do! And so would most of you ;-) Bye, Christian
  21. Hi! We use the one of our cars that fit better for the caches we do that day. So we either use our Chevy Tahoe (2000, 46.000km) or our Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet (2002, 30.000km). Bye, Christian
  22. Hi! I still have the problem that only the finds in the first 20 caches will be shown in google map search mode. If I switch to the next 20 caches no find will be shown. And even if I go back to the first page, none of my finds will be shown. Finds will only be shown again if I move the card a little bit. Second error (still) is that showing lists only work from time to time. I can't switch the number of lines to a different number than 20. If I do so, still 20 lines will be shown but the number of pages is the number that would be correct for the cosen number of lines. (If 5 pages will be shown for 100 entries, 2 pages will be shown with chosing 50 line. But only 20 lines will really be shown). And switching pages is only working from time to time, not always. Another error is that there's no smiley at the event I attended. Why? On my list of found caches the event will be shown (and counted). Bye, Christian
  23. Hi! There's a bug in the bookmark lists that makes it impossible for me to see all the bookmarks in a list. I only can see the first 20 entries. If I try to go to a different page than the first one it tells me the right page number but it only shows me the first 20 entries. Additionally I can't choose to view a different number of entries on a page. It always only shows the first 20 entries. I am using IE 6 on Windows XP SP2 Bye, Christian
  24. Hi! That's exactly what I was talking about. It is only working after shifting the map a little bit. And again one time only. And by the way: There's another bug with the bookmark indicator as well. If I choose a list, some item are shown as in the list, somer are not. But they ARE in the list if I look into the list itself. I tried with both IE 6 and the very actual version of Firefox. Bye, Christian
  25. Hi! It still doesn't work for me :-) I'm using Windows XP SP2 with IE 6 (6.0.2900.2180). OS is german and so is IE. Bye, Christian
