  1. Yep Red90 was on the right track, just didn't have all the buttons I needed to hold down!! Was a little tricky trying to get my fingers to coordinate all 4 buttons!
  2. HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally got ahold of a person at Garmin. They had me do a master reset. If anyone experiences my problem try this: Hold down quit, menu, page out and power button all at once for about 5 seconds. At first nothing happened when I released, but he had me hit the power button again and WA-LA!!!! She powered up!!!! Lost my waypoints, but thats OK. Saved my maps so it looks like I'm good to go. Will let you know if I have further problems. Thanks again everyone for your help.
  3. I'm guessing since I bought it in May '06 I'm no longer under warrenty. I'll take the back off and try to clean once I find a small enough tool to do the job. Thanks Red90. Should I wait to hear back from Garmin? Will it matter at this point if I take it apart?
  4. Thank you all for the suggestions. SD card has been removed (several times) and replaced. It is placed correctly. Tried the hard reset and it still did the same thing, however when I pressed enter and page it went to the satalite page and I was hopeful, but alas it powered off shortly after. YBlee I even tried your wringing method but I was afraid to get too frustrated with it and really do some damage! I love this unit and am sad it's not working. Just as some prime caching weather is starting to hit. I think I'll head over to EMS where I bought it and see if they can help. In the meantime, perhaps Garmin will get back to me. I searched the Garmin site to try and troubleshoot the problem myself but came up with nothing.
  5. We've tried regular batteries. We've tried using no batteries and the AC cord in the car. We've tried connecting directly to the computer. All with the same results. Powers on to the 1st screen (where my name and address is), then powers off. I've had this unit for over a year with no problems.
  6. I've sent email to Garmin. Contacting them on the phone is an hour wait. Hoping the folks here can help. My unit has worked wonderfully until this weekend in Maine. Our first day we geocached and used the maps to find our way around town with NO problems. On our second day after breakfast we headed to a cache we planned to do. Turned the unit on and it powered up to the first screen then powered off. Changed batteries, connected to AC in car with same results. The people at LL Bean couldnt help me either. Anyone have simular problem?
  7. Hey Koneko! Somehow you didn't make the download to the GPS I printed your cache pages and will be sure to visit them! Took me awhile to figure out you go by another name there!! PS-we breifly met at the GeoJamboree last year. I was with Kayakerinme and we were getting ready to leave. Hope we bumb into each other again soon!!
  8. Thank you Sun-moon-starz!! I was actually looking at some of your caches. The ones you listed sound great. Thank you Neo2 for the link on the Louisville caches. We are really looking forward to this trip..well I am, I haven't told my daughter were we are going yet!! Off to do up some queries!! thanks bunches!!!!!
  9. Would like to contribute something positive towards this cacher in NH. He helped my bug travel out to California. He even went on a 'rescue mission' to retrive my bug from a cache that wasn't getting visited so it could be back in circulation. I consider him the reason my bug finally moved out of New England as it was intended to.
  10. Hello!! My 12 year old daughter and I will be in the Lexington area next weekend and was hoping some fellow local cachers could give us some suggetions on Must-Do caches in the area. We'll also be spending a day in Louisville. We have a couple of bugs we would also like to drop off. We really prefer walks in the woods to urban micros. Anything scenic or historical would be great. Thanks!!
  11. Thank you VERY MUCH!!!! This information was just what I was looking for. As our handle states - there are 3 wildwomen attached to this account so I kinda knew there wouldn't be an easy way to find out how many CACHERs there are, but knowing how many accounts will start me in the right direction.
  12. Hi, I need to do a project and was wondering how many Geocachers there are. On the home page is how many Geocaches, but how many of actual finders of these geocaches are there? Any ideas on how to find out? Thanks!
  13. I think I need to update but after reading this I'm afraid!! LOL Currently my Software version is 3.00 and GPS SW Version is 2.40. I'm a complete dope when it comes to this type of stuff. Can someone please advise what would be my best course of action here? Thanks!
  14. Slightly off topic: I have a 60csx and just got the City Nav V8. I know I need more memory, but how much is sufficent? 128MB? 256MB?
  15. Thank you all for your help. I went hunting for files and deleted them. Wiped out everything in the Palm and started over. Athough I have no idea what excatly I did that fixed the problem....something right worked!! I'm up and running again!!! YEAH!!!
  16. Deleted everything in Cachemate. Deleted and reinstalled the Palm. Now getting install tool error message: The file Cachemate.pdb already exists in 3wildwomen's download directory. I'm at a loss. Everything loaded fine prior to this. Anyone live close by wanna come help??
  17. I need a memory card now!?!??! Does it ever end?? Thanks NCfiddler from a natural born Tarheel stuck in New England
  18. I've not had a problem until now. I've been happily downloading waypoints into my GPS and my M500 using GASK. I tried tonight to add a few I want to do tomorrow. Everything worked nicely going into the GPS. I did everything I've done in the past to download into the M500. But I get a message saying the file is already in the handheld list, but it's not in Cachemate. Where could it be??? My free space says: 7.5M of 7.7M and that seems like I have enough. Is it? What could I be doing wrong?
  19. I just ordered City Nav V8 from gpsnow.com. Was the best price I could find.
  20. Thanks thefiveofus. I checked out gpsnow.com and got it for $125 with shipping!!!! Hope it comes in before the weekend!
  21. I found on Ebay V8 from a power seller with great feedback for $130 with shipping. How do you all feel about buying something like this from Ebay?
  22. Now that I'm downloading waypoints and have gone paperless it's time for some Maps!! I think I need City Nav and not City Select right? Also if I understand correctly, if I purchase V7 I will get an upgrade to V8 on the Nav?
  23. With the help and guidance on the forums, I got a really nice M500 from Ebay. Invested in Cachemate and GASK and cannot believe how it's all enhanced my Geocaching experience!!! Had some trouble figuring out how to download the caches using Pocket Queries into GASK, but the handy instructions found on GC.com got me through it. A call to a caching buddy helped me get the info into Cachemate. I love it!!! Good luck and Thanks again to all who helped me.
  24. Thanks Dude/Sweet. I am now the proud owner of a M500 won on Ebay. I should have it in my hands by Monday. Then the real fun begins as I learn how to download and go paperless!! Thank you all for your help!!
  25. Thank you to all who replied. I've been scanning Ebay for the M500. Doesn't seem to be too many of them, but I did find one from a power seller who gives a 90 day guarantee. It doesn’t appear it has the Hotsync CABLE, but a Cradle. Does this mean I’ll have to buy a cable also? Comes with the Palm Software CD, Bonus Software CD, and original full manual CD.
