  1. tupperware bombs in graveyards... is that a big problem these days??? ok, so this is what i say. people leave things in cemetaries all the time. and, if this is a person(in the grave) that you knew and loved, then why not. if it were a loved one of mine, i may consider it as a way to honor that person. we all have someone who we love enough that we think everyone should meet them (or not, maybe we want them all to ourselves ) so why not a cemetary cache along the same lines, on the lid of the cache have a pic and a short bio, and as trading items maybe a few things that represent that person. then everyso often if its a grave you visit regularly anyway, you could "refresh" the cache. just my thoughts, thats what i think.
  2. i wouldnt worry about the GPS. the original use for GPS was military, and though they are civilian models we use they are still pretty sturdy, and its not like they are a primary target. plus with the rarity of ammo, having to hunt it down, no one would be wasting it on a shot that would take out equipment. as for further comunications, though i am not overly private i would prefer to keep discussions here for the sake of feedback, i'd like to see more people read this and see what they think or what ideas they have on it.
  3. there are tons here we are right next to a Garmin office.... hehehe

First it is tresspassing! Second, how would you like me to list a waypoint in your backyard? I am also concerned about caches that send people to archaeological sites. As benign as this pastime may seem, most arch sites would do better with less visitation. As much as I would like to believe that all geocachers are respectful, odds are this is not the case. Search on with respect, please! first, your first and second points are the same point worded differently. second, both the statement and question make the same point. and third, to my understanding of how a reservation works back yard should be replaced with town. (though i could be wrong, im not an expert) however i have been raised around the culture, been to many a pow wow in my youth (one of my fonder memories, i was hoping to go to a camp meeting with my father whos best friend is native american and i believe on the tribal council, dont ask me which tribe, hes my fathers friend not mine, but the aforementioned trip aint happening for financial reasons. ) thirdly yes if someone wanted to put a cache in my back yard that would be fine with me, it would be safe from vandals, i would get pick of the prizes and get to see all the cachers that came by. and yes for the most part cachers are friendly and respectful, i imagine if they crossed paths with someone on the reservation that had objections. they would turn around and log it so on the site, and you said they hadnt given permission not that they objected, there is a BIG difference. so i would like to know the FULL context of not giving permission. was it you called and they had no clue what you were talking about or like they were mad and going to patrol with rifels... (i hate when the farmers do this in rural areas.. i usualy hide behind a cow or something.) what exactly is meant by didnt give permission and is this verifiable by someone like me. i myself wouldnt mind visiting a reservation 1. to do my part to help as in a previous post and 2. to remember what people are capable of doing to one another out of greed and fear (without which there would be no reservations, and the land and the people would still be free.) and unless i am WAAAAY off my mark i dont think anyone would object to a chache with such a theme.

  6. if you are going to do the spock routine you have to approach them and scan them. i prefer to carry a walky talky and if anyone talks to me say over it something like. "there's another one that knows too much" and reach really fast into my jacket.....
  7. quote:Originally posted by seneca: The problem with the Orwellian "Big Brother" dictatorship wasn't the tactics, but the goals and ideology of that fictional government. I am hopeful that police will use GPS as an investigative tool much more. yeah, take a brief look at history, the "fiction" in big brother wasnt the human tendancy to dominate and controll completely whatever and whoever they can, it WAS the technology used to do so. why do you think the USA exists?? most of the first immigrants/colonists call them what you will and even many today are people fleeing from nations that have those "fictional" ideals and goals. thats what the constitutional amendments are all about. of course i suppose in this day and age when people dont even remember what most of the amendments are you cant expect them to remember what any of them mean or why they were written. sad really.
  8. you could do what those "national mints" do, ever see the infomercials late at night for commemerative coins? the fine print always says this is legal tender in some place like transcarpathia or some place with not much money, then the people sell the coins and make a fortune. you could do something like that.
  9. i hope every one finds this to be as funny as i meant it to be.

  11. i like geocaching because it is good clean fun, and other than the ticks and spiderwebs there is no unpleasantness that i know of. it is something that would make for a good wholesome, and original date complete with conversation, an alternative to the old standby dinner and a movie. i know if i had a girlfriend we could sit at the cachesite, or nearby and have a good long conversation about life and where we were headed in our relationship, and the beauty of God's Green Earth. of course since i dont i get to tromp through the woods, all by myself, getting tangled in spider webs with ticks climbing all over me, and that stupid branch just swung back and hit me in the eye... but i'll be ok. once i find the cache i can sit there and wonder, "what would it be like if that special someone was here now?" would i still be sitting in the mud unaware that as i lean back i almost put my hand is some animal poop? ahh but i have the glory of nature all to myself, except for that couple who has biked by a couple of times acting like they are so in love, and that family with the children playing merrily under there parents watchful eye as the parents are holding hands and acting as playful as newlyweds. yeah thats why i love geocaching, its a fun wholesome family/date event. too bad im single huh???

  13. ok combine these 2 great sports. those of you not into paintball would be surprised at how elaborate the game is with WWII reinactments including tanks "grenade launchers" and everything all using paint as ammo. so why not throw in a geo twist. each team is given a certain amount of ammo. once they run out they need to find more, but where??? that is where the geotwist comes in. hide the paintballs in various spots around the area of play. and hide only a few in each spot to make it more challenging. it would be kind of like living in one of those survival horror games (resident evil, silent hill, etc.) you have to find the ammo and find your opponents before they find you. come on, let me know what you think.

    my idea

ok, i live in kansas and i am into martial arts, i am a green belt right now. in my school, (and i am sure many others) among a few people there is a tradition called a black belt necklace. it works like this, the first person makes the necklace with something meaningful to them on it, they then wear it until they get their black belt, they then pass it on to someone else who adds an item/charm whatever you want to call it. my idea is to make 2 necklaces. one with a travel bug to go into a cache and one with the sister bug. (since they come in pairs) the blackbelt tests are in albequerque new mexico and the goal of the necklace bug would be to get to albequerque before i do and be delivered to the school there as a gift to the founder of our school. so what do you think good idea bad idea ugly idea??? i dont know how to turn this into a poll so you will have to just respond.
